Part of what makes Death is such a great character he is near all powerful at least enough to claim he can reap God he is the only being that puts legitimate fear into Dean that Lucifer couldn’t but he is not evil he believes in the natural order and he can actually be comforting and understanding.

The reason Sam wouldn't want anyone possessing him goes back to s5, even s2. Sam has been forced to give his autonomy time and again. Being possessed by Lucifer himself, I think we can safely say he would be wary of ANY angel possession. He was tortured by Lucifer for a year and half. Even in s2 he was possessed for more than a week by a demon(Meg). His whole life, has been controlled by demons and angels, ever since he was a 6 month old baby. So ofc he would rather die than be possessed again.

Everything in Sam's mind was amazing! It was both heart breaking and hilarious. Like, the bickering between Dean and Bobby and Sam being so annoyed by them both, then Bobby appearing in the front seat was hilarious. But then, like, the whole reason for it was heart breaking. The fact that Death considers it an honor to collect Sam's soul is amazing. I also love how he was so completely done when Dean showed up, because deep down he knew he wasn't really gonna be able to get Sam. Winchesters just do not stay dead and he knows it... Sammy's whole speech to Death about how he wanted it to be permanent and for no one else to get hurt because of him. That really hurt! Of course he's gonna feel like that, he has far too much guilt, and feels as though he's hurt more than he's helped. He generally focuses on the bad he's done rather than any of the good. And it's so sad!

Sam doesn't want to be possessed because of having been possessed by both Lucifer and Meg. And with Meg, sam killed people, which of course, he hated. Also, Sam couple times has been sort of been "suicidal" and continually questions his value in the world. (IMO) But despite not completing the trials for Dean, the the emotions that caused him to question why hes shouldn't die were still there. And to end up on the verge if death anyway (another failure). I would imagine Sam felt that death was a best opinion. Even if he was obviously VERY VERY WRONG.

I not going too fight about this but Sam's rights got took away from him He wanted too close the gates of hell badly at any cost But then Dean talked him out of it and then when Sam talks too death that know one will be hurt because of him and Dean tricked Sam too say yes and then look what happen in the middle of the season.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this episode, but it would be difficult to go into all of them without mentioning things that happen later. So, I'll just say that I do sympathize with the situation Dean was in. Talk about being stuck between two bad choices, and you're out of time to find an Option D or whatever they were on by then. But at the same time, he said himself that he knew Sam would rather die than agree to being possessed, even if it was the only way to save his life. To me, that's like someone giving a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) order but then they're in a comma and their family decides to disregard it and overrules it for them. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm glad Sam isn't dead. But after all the times he's been possessed (something that Dean hasn't had to deal with, by the way) and all the other time his agency has been taken away, due to one thing or another, I can understand why he would feel that way. And considering the emotional state he'd been in leading up to the trials, I can also understand why he made that stipulation with Death. Because pretty much every time he or Dean have tried to bring each other back, something bad has come of it. And he knows how desperate his brother would get, and he doesn't want him to do something that would endanger the world or himself just to bring him back to life. Another thing to take into account when it comes to Sam's mental state in this episode is that he wasn't just "giving up". His body was ravaged by what the trials did to him. He said himself that it felt like he wanted to fight but didn't know how, like he was punching at smoke. I think that was his mind reacting to the damage done to his body and just... not being able to do anything about it because it had nothing left to fight with. This wasn't a case of Sam just being in a coma, and his will alone could magically make him come out of it. His body was shutting down. Aaaaanyway, I did love your reaction and I look forward to further ones! Take care and be safe!

I think the problem with angel possession is that they are powerful even when they are weak, so you have to trust the angel. But Dean just met Ezekiel and has never heard of him.

I just feel bad for Cas,I totally agree with Dean when he told cas he should take care of himself and everything, I hate the fact Dean is keeping a secret from Sam because once Sam knows he'll probably be mad because Dean knows an angel is In him but hasn't told him. When Bobby said ' what you call dying , I call leaving a legacy ' I couldn't help but say : it would've been even more of a legacy if he had actually closed the gates of hell forever , it's not like stopping the trials made a difference on his condition , the biggest missed opportunity in this show , the same story arc could've continued as it is if he had closed the gates , he would've still be dying , angels would still fall , we would still have Crowley ( which if we are being honest the only demon we care about ) but he would've been human which would've been interesting to see , but I guess losing demons would've been too much of a loss to the show , but just think of all the people that demons will continue to posses that could've been saved

A running theme in SPN is Sam having no/little agency and Dean having inflated responsibility/carrying a burden. This season displays that really well. So excited for you to watch Season 9!

I don't think the hospital lady has been an angel all along. But she said in her first scene that she believes in miracles. That means she has a greater chance to say yes to an angel, especially in catastrophic times, like when windows start exploding for no reason... It is interesting that Sam creates a Dean that is violent, and stubborn, and plows thru hardship without thinking (like the real one), but when the real Dean (albeit with Ezikiel attached) shows up, he tries to reason, he expresses what he feels. He did the same thing at the end of the previous episode, too.

a great 2 part Dakara treat to a great season starter that threw us right into the "secret keeping angst" that the boys excel at... lol so good to see a bit of Bobby and Death (Mr Intense Creepster) for a bit as well as Tamoh P, the actor playing Ezekiel, who seems to pop up in a lot of my fave series.... interesting character, though I can't recall if Ezekiel is possessing Sam, if his vessel is laying around somewhere... but it'll be interesting for you to watch how this will all flesh out.... I am curious if you did a S8 blooper reel reaction or not, as I always look forward to the "grinning like a goon" goodness...... a week starting double CTU's for you D! keep em coming!

I am never going to be okay with Dean doing this. Like, obviously I'm glad that Sam's alive (plus it means we get to see this amazing acting... Hahaha) but that is not something you can decide for someone else. Angels need consent for a reason, and Dean took that from Sam. Yes, it's for good, and yes it's to save Sam, but he's still got this random Angel in his body and mind able to take over at any time and erase memories at will. That is not something you can decide for others and I just can't get over that... :-/

SPOILER ALERT! It was all Gadreel's fault. He manipulated Dean. Dean didn't know how horrible it was going to be and how manipulative Gadreel actually was. I saw a really good analogy on tumblr that said that the situation was like when you have a relative who really needs help because they are suicidal so you take them to a clinic but it turns out they mistreat the patients and you had no idea that could happen.

@@BloodyGir7 SPOILERS: Gadreel didn't manipulated Dean, Gadreel intetntions were real. It changed when Metatron Manipulated Gadreel and made him do all of that. Gadreel only wanted to do good and redeem himself to the Angels for "letting the snake in" when even then he was tricked by Lucifer so it wasn't Gadreel being bad. He actully ended up sacrificing himself to save Cas

So, quick question for the Supernatural fans out there. I've watched all the way up through season 10 when it was live and then things happened and I fell out of it. I'm watching Dakara to get caught up for the series finale and my question is this; was Jared having a severe battle with depression during Season 8? Because ol' boy does not look as healthy and robust as he did in season 4 through 7 when he was jacked. His face is thinner and they have him wearing bulky jackets to try and make it appear he still has considerable mass, but it's all smoke and mirrors.

Sam's decision to die in this episode was heartbreaking, even more so considering Jared's real life struggles. I think his experiences really make his performance that bit more incredible (though I wish he had never experienced it in the first place, I'm glad he's doing well now). I love Death himself coming to collect Sam, and my oh my Dean has made a very difficult decision which poses a lot of moral questions.

Cas is human now!!! And he is so in denial about it until the end when he gets rid of his trenchcoat. Remember he thinks of himself as someone who needs to be useful with his angelic powers. So without them he feels like he's... no one.. to Sam and Dean. But Dean mostly needs him right now to just be with him and support him. There's also the guilt of what he did to heaven and him trying to help the angels but then that angel he was with just wanted his "vessel" :( And Sam just wants to die :(. And Gadreel goes and puts on Dean's face and tells him "there's no me without you"... Scary...

I know and understand why Dean did what he did. But I can't be ok with it. Tricking Sam to be posses by an Angel!? That's basically manipulating someone for your own good! You can say "Sam could say No to Dean", but it was obvious he would say yes, he let go his desire to fight when Dean desappeared, but then he sees Dean again when he suppously stopped fighting? if Dean was there it means there must be a reason to fight left, right?, Sam's mind got confuse and say Yes without thinking it, but he say it to DEAN not to Ezequiel. Is still wrong and is still something Dean did. I understand the why, and I'm glad Sam is alive, but it doesn't make it good.

That's not how it went down, Sam didn't wanted to live because according to him there was nothing to fight for, live for but that was wrong. Dean did it because he wanted Sam to believe that there is still hope, still a way to fight and a chance to live a normal life. Sam had lost the hope, that's why he wanted to die, this was not done out of self righteousness or because of people, Sam wanted to die because he hates himself. How is that a good thing? It was a suicide mission which has no point, Sam can't just abandon Dean because he lost hope, his brother is till there which means things can be better together. What Dean did was out of love, yes will Sam hate Dean for it probably but would Dean do it again, ina heartbeat. And you know what Sam would too, maybe watch S11 for a change. Sam has a right to be angry but Dean only wants what's best for him.
