When something gets damaged, yes, it is under your care and control so you're responsible. But if it is something like wear, or the vehicle breaks down, no, you're not. Say the alternator goes out, the renter isn't responsible for that. I bring this up because my truck was in the shop for a while awaiting a new engine. My gf would say "just borrow my car to do groceries and stuff" and I was hesitant because HER attitude is: if the muffler was rusted out, and it falls off while I'm driving it, I have to pay for it lol. I get it if someone crashes or something like that, that's logical, but I remember a guy having a flat tire and you charged him a new one. I think the company should cover that. Imagine spending thousands of dollars on a rental and after a few minutes you get a flat tire. Not your fault because you were driving carefully. You're stuck on the side of the road, a flatbed truck picks up the car, so it's out of service and on top of that you charge the tire. It would be a very unpleasant experience and I would never rent a car from you again.
@MrSlowestD164 жыл бұрын
All those companies that "buy any car" exist with the same business model. For cars that they can easily re-sell (new cars) they low-ball you and then slightly mark up on sale, make profits off the margins, which is only 3k or 4k per car. For anything old, anything 90's, they offer like $100-$1000 depending on condition. I took a very solid IS300 to Carmax for example (that I later sold for 5k) and they offered me $1000 because they had no intention of re-selling, just straight to auction. So yes, to them your $1000 Merc is worth $100 because they know it won't fetch anymore than peanuts at salvage auction.

Several years ago I was on a business trip in England. I picked up a hire car at the airport and had it for a couple of days. When I returned the vehicle I was surprised when the rental company found damage in the form of a bulging tire. They had not done an inspection of the vehicle with me before I took the car out on rental so there was no way to know if the bulge had been present perhaps from the previous hirer. They wanted me to accept liability for the damage but I refused as I knew I had not kerbed the tire. Essentially what had happened is they had rented me a vehicle in an unroadworthy condition as the tire could have blown out at any time.

I agree with you rob, but in SOME cases I will charge back the whole charge, like for example I bought 2 Milwaukee power tools from Home Depot that were supposed to include a free battery 2 pack. They charged me the overpriced cost of the tools, which I accepted because of the free batteries, and they charged me full price for the batteries. They wouldn’t refund me the cost of the battery, they would take a refund me or let me return all of the items, and they wouldn’t even give me a store credit, so in that situation, yea I could only charge back the cost of the battery, but I would have never bought any of it in that case, and since depot failed to deal With their employees or their computers screw up a charge back the whole thing. I tried to give them the items back but they told me to get lost. 99% of the time I’m with you though.

@Fee.14 жыл бұрын
Mexican Spec “agree” lol you’re a smart one aren’t ya. I spent $4,000 on tools and equipment/supplies and trusted they would be rung up as they were supposed to. Are you one of those people that stand there watching each item as it’s scanned at the register and has each price memorized and throws a fit when your coupon doesn’t make it the price you wanted and then takes out your checkbook and spends 10 minutes writing a check while the people behind you do all they can to resist smacking you? Smart assery aside, sorry if it seems I went a bit harsh on you, it’s impossible to tell people’s intentions or tone via text though and on youtube comments usually it’s not kindness. If you weren’t trying to be a prick with your question then I apologize for being a prick in response, I figured you’re suggested I’m a dumb ass for “agreeing” to the wrong price though, and if that’s the case then my gfy attitude stands lol. In short agreed to buy them at the advertised price and after realizing I’d been charged more than I should have I sought to rectify the issue, Home Depot wasn’t able to because they have a computer system that overrides their employees and managers choices.

I wrote them back said absolutely my fault, no problem, go ahead and charge my card just please provide me a receipt of the completed work, so I can send it to my insurance and be reimbursed. I never was charged. A couple of months later I got a letter in the mail saying they followed up on my dispute (but i didn't dispute?) and it's not shown to be my fault (but I told them it was my fault?) and they are very sorry for the inconvenience.
