This is such a thoughtful video - thank you Coach Dietz. I have watched your other videos on this subject and own your Triphasic book, but this is very additive. I would disagree with the other comments that complain about length of video - the cause and effect discussion is powerful to understanding. otherwise its like being given answers to a test without learning the material.

My experience with misfiring muscles was my inguinal ligament compressing my L4 L5 nerve to my Rectus Femoris. The RF attaches at the top of the knee cap. I was having tracking issues and severe knee pain. My PL chiropractor had me stretch the iguinal ligament by compressing it with heat and the RF started firing again because the ligament wasn't "turning off" the RF nerves. The kneecap tracked properly and the knee pain vanished. This information is NOT chicken feet and voodoo, it's very real how systems get messed up in the body and when fixed, pain goes away and you feel genuinely better.

Love that Cal led with the Arch wake up drill. Between the arch and the big toe, if you can clean that up there's a ton of performance on the table that you can quickly improve.

Can i ask a question? Can these techniques help address body self guarding from issues yrs old. Example: Im a basketball player for 30yrs, sprained ankles lots over the yrs and never really had treatment or guidance for recovery, just waited 1-2wks for it to feel better then off i go again. Now i suspect the answer is yes defiantly can help, but i thought id ask, because between sport and work my spine, hips and shoulders are all messed up.

I wonder if, given how narrow most lifting shoes are, Cal would recommend a shoe with a wider toe box (or barefoot) in order to allow that big toe to really get into good position for optimal functionality.

@ObedMineField4 жыл бұрын
@@afhostie no you don't have to shift your weight towards the toes, -it's just that curling the big toe has an effect on the nervous system to the glutes.

@@ObedMineField Really? How so? What's that claim based on?
@ObedMineField4 жыл бұрын
@@Snap_Crackle_Pop_Grock if you can't feel it clearly yourself, watch in the video for a couple things: 1 When Mark sets up for the RDL, *all* his weight is in his heels. When Cal tells him to press his big toe down, Mark reflexively gets glute activation and starts to come up, even though Cal hasn't told him to come up, in fact Mark realizes this and comes back down thinking he wasn't following directions properly. His weight never shifted out of his heels, which you can clearly see. 2 When Mark is on the table, Cal is loading his *leg* above the knee... all Mark is doing is pressing his toe against the inside of his shoe, no loading of the foot at all! Pretty cool huh?

For this that don't understand how any of this works, this is equivalent to foam rolling nerves, instead of forcing blood into a muscle it forces electrical signals into nerves.
