Or 500 miles per charge. Would love to hear a real driver's experience. Thanks. If you could talk about it I watch all your videos. Tell Bayly we said hi. Keep drawing that Dorsey trailer.

While 5mpg sucks, it is just 1line from gross to net. Payments, insurance, depreciation, cost of repairs (down time makes it a double-edged sword), truck stop food (cost & lost time), not wanting a motel room for your reset, and the 1 intangible of your comfort for the 1/2 of your day not behind the wheel are just a few that come to mind.

Gearing is so different to Europe. We have a 56mph max speed (governed). A Volvo 560hp D13 engine would pull aorun 1100rpm at 56 with 2045lbs ft torque. 10-13mpg.
@CoherentChimp2 жыл бұрын
UK (imperial) gallon is about 20% bigger than the US gallon, so mpg will be very different.

@acd12022 жыл бұрын
The 5 usmpg that Dan talks about is 6.07 imperial mpg, or in other words imminenet bankruptcy in the UK. The 10 which a European truck will get running heavy is about 8.27 usmpg. I believe that US aerodynamic trucks with European based engines, Volvo with a Volvo engine or a Cascadia with a DD13, PACCAR product with MX13 or maybe an International with the A26 will get similar figures to what we get. However the US version of these engines always have lower maximum outputs both power and torque the the Euro versions and usually rev higher. Things aren't really comparable because the US in most cases have much higher running speeds than our EU imposed pedestrian speeds and double drive (this seems like driving to down the road throwing money out of the window to a European, but whatever does it for you), whilst in the UK we run much heavier and go upto 3 feet higher so much more drag. Horses for courses.
@johnsobaszko17002 жыл бұрын
Freightliner Cascadias in the States with a DD15 get around 8.5mpg. That would be an extra 20K+ in the driver's wallet, based on 100K miles a year.

Constant stream of BNSF coal trains through the Nebraska Sandhills everyday. Coal coming from Wyoming going to coal fired power plants who knows where. As much as possible we get used to the whistles. Some engineers are courteous and don't lay on the horn all the way through town. Others are just like the truckers pulling bull racks. They have straight pipes and think they have to use the Jake's as they downshift at the intersection. I think their goal is to rattle every window in town. I've driven trucks for over 30 years and know that is not necessary.

Regarding fuel consumption, we get roughly between 8.5/9.4mpg running fully loaded at 44000kgs. If I were getting 5 mpg the motor would be sold but that’s because of our extortionate fuel costs. 👍. Keep up the good work Dan, always a joy to watch.

Trucks will drink fuel like Dan's does if you cruise at 65mph like he does, and some states they can run 70mph plus if he ran it at 55mph he would probably get 8mpg plus , the difference would be payments on a new truck what you save running slower, you don't gain anything in the long run going 10 mph faster, only higher fuel costs and added fatigue.
