Our flatbeds have the front sliding axle so similar setup to yours but the front slides instead of the rear. What I have noticed with ours is to ride with the axles closed when empty because it tends to destroy the tires if they’re spread.

I would either put some short mud flaps at the front of the trailer or get some 1/2 fenders cause the front drives are going to throw rocks at the back of your sleeper and headache rack

Dorsey must be pleased with you as a spokesman for their trailers since they've provided you with a brand new trailer to show off their equipment. I'm guessing that the low ride height means that you will not be able to lift the front axle with light or no loads.

Only addition I would suggest is adding a riser(load leveler) for the lower deck (unless the ramps can also be used for that). Sometimes you'll need all 53', but some of the pieces of freight is longer than the 11' upper deck, like those big a/c units you haul from time to time, a riser lets you load longer pieces upstairs.

Dan you should be able to set the trailer brakes from the truck to relock the pins on your slide axel. That way you don't have to get out and do it at the axel.

Those 17.5s are nice for getting the trailer down low. They just hate heat and speed. Then finding a place that has them is the next problem. Awesome trailer though Dan!

With the chain pop-ups you may find you will end up using the pop-ups MORE than the j-hooks depending on load width. Looks great Dan.....NOW GO MAKE SOME MONEY WITH IT!

Watch the 17.5 tires, they don't like to run heavy when it is hot out. Also you will want to spend money on a better brand of trailer tires. I would run with the tandem closed and try to stay under 34000 on the trailer if you can. Safe travels

Hey Dan, I haul a 53 lowpro stepdeck too with the sliding tandems. One thing you need to be careful of, when the axles are closed, the back of the trailer will bottom out on basically every little grade. Just be aware!

Are those tires 16-ply and speed-rated?

@ you can get 16 or 18 ply. Usually speed rates at 75mph. I dont go much over 65, speed chews these tires up!

Dan Dan the professional step deck man. If I was ordering a step that’s the exact way I would have configured mine, only difference I would have both axles on the trailer be able to slide. That's why most drivers with half a brain carry atleast 1 spare. Dan is always on top of things, he'll probably have atleast 2 mounted somewhere.

Just more tools in the toolbox. Now the education starts. FYI from someone that has pulled a step for over 30 years. Leave the tandems closed unless you need the spread for weight or length. It will reduce your tire ware. Enjoy sir.

Dan, you should get a couple of bridges in case you get a load of long pipe or lumber to make your trailer the same height. You can store them against the step or make a bulkhead.

Dan, A Florida ANNUAL OVERSIZE Permit For A 53ft Trailer WITH A SPREAD AXLE Should Be Helpful. One Of Those States. CA Is Goofy Too, But You Don't Go Out There 😊. Also With The OVER INFLATE To Slide The Axle, DO NOT Do That While LOADED HEAVY! Slide BEFORE Any Weight Is On The Deck, Don't Want To Blow An Airbag Or 2 😮. Be Safe! See You Out There Again!
