It should not be so hard to understand. Groups such as the LGBT community can not force people to participate in their ceremonies. Simple as that. Genuinely held religious beliefs are not to be discriminated against. Seems to me the courts ruled correctly, not providing any basis for discrimination towards either side.

Christianity does not force you to participate in it. In fact, it is taught that Christians should bless those that curse them and persecute them. We should refrain from participating in things displeasing to God. It is not always easy to do, but it is a journey worth undertaking. Many educated people prefer to worship other things, though they do not see it as such. I worship at the altar of Christ, not the altar of political correctness, globalism, or liberal socialism. God bless you all and have a blessed evening/day.

Dear lady, my purpose is not to win. No church and no religion will do the winning, only Jesus Christ himself can do that after this world experiences many tribulations. God's approval is greater than the approval of men or women. God loves all people, and only abhors the sins we commit. Knowing who or what you follow is not always easy. Some people worship their own good deeds, whilst looking for the adulation or acceptance of the people that see them. God gave us his Word to follow, and it never fails, never lies. We may let God down, but he will never let us down. God bless

I'm glad that the religious discrimination going on in this country is finally being noticed. You can't just protect and promote lgbt and bash other groups. America is the land of the free. Your free to be lgbt, but also free not participate in any way, shape or form if you don't want to. Why didn't the couple just go to another bakery?

mrtimjitsu I would think, imo, if it conflicts with your way of life, youd have an obligation to provide service. If it conflicts with your religion or race, no , because ultimately you don't choose your race, and that has a HUGE effect on your religion. However even if one says they are homosexual by birth, that doesn't mean they have to live that way unless they choose to. So its harsh to say it but in reality race>religion(even athiest)>sexual orientation. And that goes for all people, meaning black would have to serve white even if he doesn't like them.

SgtBaker16 it's dumb because a Muslim butcher (if there ever are some) wouldn't offer bacon to begin with. This guy did offer wedding cakes but only to "traditional" couples. That's blatant discrimination and it's the reason he doesn't offer wedding cakes anymore. He stopped offering so that the Supreme Court would rule in his favor. Nice try tho, try using logic next time ;)
@atrainc24

Taking this to court at all was stupid. You can't force tolerance. If they can't tolerate a Christian business owners choices, their choices need not be tolerated either. They could have been adults about it. (This is about where the name calling starts,folks.)
@Luckyhearts
@Luckyhearts 6 жыл бұрын
Atrain Sure, but there's a difference between tolerance and discrimination, and it seems we're going to need to legally address that in the coming years. As I understand it, the Supreme Court didn't say that business owners can retract services offered based on their beliefs, as that would be discrimination much like Jim Crowe laws were discriminatory towards black people.
@jonmh9668
@jonmh9668 6 жыл бұрын
Nathan Wright I think he stopped more so to drop the heat. The SC already knew he did this cakes so suddenly not doing them wouldn't change their ruling. Point is he offered them service up to participating in something he didn't believe in. Whether or not you agree it definitely wasn't as black and white as he denying them service. Also stop comparing this to Jim crow. It's been begged countless times and its insulting and not at all the same. Religions don't tell you to hate brown people unless it's one someone made up with an agenda.

Idk the person personally more of an acquaintance, as I only met her a couple of times. She lives in Colorado and has been to this baker many times. She said he's a very man and when she wanted a bachelorette cake for our mutual friend. He kindly declined because of the sexual innuendos. So she just thanked him and left. End of story

I am all for equality. If people are racist, or rude or demeaning then yes, we can be offense and we have to fight for our rights. But if the person is polite and he is explaining why he is doing something, because of his strong religious conviction, then he has the right for that as well. His rights should also been respected. Now a days instead of us accepting that sometimes we just have different views, beliefs and opinion, we just automatically get offended and angry.

SCOTUS didn't "side" with the Baker. They basically threw the case out because of perceived lack of impartiality by the CO commission and appeals court. Doesn't apply to any other similar issue going through the courts.

Yeah, but they proved hostility by the Colorado courts towards the man’s religious beliefs. I don’t see a big leap there from the way the Colorado courts treated the guy and the way the Colorado couple treated the guy.
@tonydavid7950
@tonydavid7950 6 жыл бұрын
olivia15073 huge difference....CO commission and courts are supposed to be impartial...the SCOTUS ruling was very specific that a lack of apparent impartiality was the cause of their decision, and SCOTUS wrote explicitly they weren't deciding the core contention as a general finding that would apply across the board in these cases. The CO case never got that far with SCOTUS' consideration because the apparent bias by the commission and appeals court negated a fair determination in this instance alone ....hence the outcome.

Tony David...But just out of curiosity, if a Saudi Arab had walked into the same store with five of his wives and demanded a wedding cake, would you think the Arab had a right to sue the same baker for declining to make that cake as well? And before you say that that’s a far-fetched example, it’s not. As someone who is retired from a Saudi Arabian company, I can tell you that I worked with many polygamist Saudis who lived and worked here in Texas for years with all of their wives. We’re not talking about a practice that doesn’t happen anymore. It may not be performed legally in America, but if married legally overseas, it is recognized in the states.

I don't claim to have your biblical knowledge, but I recall there are lots of admonitions in the bible about associating with sinners. The Old Testament was REALLY hard core about that.
