Surf Insight: Staying too low can ruin your ride...don't "squat"

Hey Tim! Non-surfing artist here looking for a video representation of what a proper stance should look like. I feel like in your 4 minute video, you covered more on basic surf posture than I could find scouring Google over the past day or so. I feel like I've got all I need for a piece I'm working on, and I appreciate the insight. Honestly, the more I look at surfing, the more I consider picking it up. Hi Tim, great video. I'm a squatter!!! I use it on small waves because I find it easier to stay on the wave. After watching the video, I think the reason for that is the weight distribution coming forward, not the squat itself. A fellow surfer spoke to me a month back and pointed out that you cannot generate speed from the squat position. So moral of the story, middle road. Thanks for the great channel. So very informative and the demonstrations are so on point.

Poo stance! 😂😂😂 Great video tim. This also might be the only video where the instructor shows weight shift up and down the board. Lots of people talk about it but no one stands on a board and shows it.

I would subscribe if I could find content on this channel that feels inclusive to my own demographic. Namely: a female surfer over the age of 60 and/or a female surfer who is on the chunky side. I can find plenty of content online implying that one can still surf if you're old and not in the best shape.....assuming you're a man.

Hi Amber ...yes your right .. I started the filming for instructors and it turned into a KZbin channel. But firstly you have this 60 + guy ( me ) presenting it and even my women instructors are in their early 30's and like race horses . So if when this awful Covid thing is over when get clients on the course that fit your demographic we can get some filming done. We have quite a few women in the Lanzarote school and Sri Lanka who are in your age bracket, and as you say ...chunky. Tell us what issues your encountering that we could help with ? But if we send you a link to one that helps I'm sorry to say it will be presented by me. I actually specialize in coaching female competitive surfers but of course that's a whole other thing. But back to the chunky thing. I always suggest is not to try too hard to lose weight for surfing but just to get stronger and more flexible and that with solid technique will really help. You're an inspiration, I have no desire to remove you from the equation! I also do not wish to remove the beautiful, young female instructors you have previously featured. I'd just like to see a few other elements added in. @@AmberMaloneAZ yes indeed ..I'm in a good old fight with Stage 3 Colorectal cancer and in fact all the videos I shot I had cancer but didn't know ... kind of funny as you can see me shrinking in the videos ...but I will win and as I get better I really want to expand the channel in many directions and the one you suggest is super valid ...wont be for a few months I expect The women teaching were never chosen for looks however ...I never even thought about it as they are just good friends as well as colleagues but you wouldn't be surprised at the dumb comments I had to delete from men on the channel ...so sad. My Mum's last surf with me she was 78 ...only lying down but still surfing bless her.
