In this episode, Noel Salas reviews the "Red Tiger," which is John John's model, by Pyzel Surfboards. Noel rides his custom 5'6" high performance board with XTR10 foam with epoxy resin at 25.7 liters. He pairs it with signature Neutral Thruster fins, a Pivot thruster set up, but then a Pivot Twin + Trailer brought the board to a whole other level in the pool and ocean. He claims it is a solid performance board in the pool. The Red Tiger has a flat deck, its wide point a little back from center, and tapered rail keeps it sensitive and promotes pocket surfing. Noel rides a stock 5'7" XL Dims Red Tiger at 26.7 liters in PU Poly in the ocean and changes out the fins from a Raked template to a Neutral template to loosen up the board. In addition, Noel teams up with Ian "Wooly" Macpherson from Wooly TV in West Australia where he gives his take on the Red Tiger coming in at 6'2 and 34.2 liters. Ian says it works well in some larger, shoulder-high waves, it projects well into the lip, and it held the rail after he set his back foot further back on the pad. Ian really begins ripping on the Red Tiger. Then, TJ from Pyzel compares the Red Tiger to the Phantom in the Pyzel line up. The Red Tiger has less rocker, more dramatic bottom contours and pivots faster than the Phantom in his opinion. Finally, Noel says the Red Tiger needs a good, punchy wave to really shine, but says if you're looking for a surfboard that loves to carve and bridges the gap between a high-performance short board and daily driver, the Red Tiger falls right in line. Enjoy!

Noel, you’re the most experienced and informed surfing channel. Your reviews are always the most honest and thorough. I love the deep knowledge you have on fin setup. You’re awesome man! I gotta head down to trestles and ride there. I’m normally at Salt Creek. Hey quick question. I know you reviewed the FRK a while back. Any plans to review the new Plus version of the FRK? I’m curious to see how it stacks up against the Pyzalien 2 since that seems to be the benchmark right now on what a performance daily driver should be. Glad to see you making an excellent recovery. Don’t ever stop riding man. See you out on the water! God Bless.

Cheers for the kind words!! The OG FRK was good. The new one looks good too but I really have no interest in riding the Squash tail version in the surf spots I surf. Too much rocker for the point breaks and Waco. I am sure it would be fun in some beach break but I’m really not digging typical HPSB’s. They take a lot of work to shred… they typically don’t have a lot of glide so you gotta keep them moving.

You’re right about that. If you have to work too hard to get a decent ride then you’re not really having fun, and that’s what its all about right. I’m thinking about getting onto my first Pyzel. I’m Intermediate skill level, 6’0 170-175 lbs. What do you think about a Phantom 6’1” at 34.4L ?

Was waiting long time for this review. I have the white tiger for small days, and i love riding my christenson lane splitter 5.8 on a daily basis in bali. I love the christenson op1 5.10 when i get out of the reef and even for weaker days or weaaker reef waves. Had an eye on the red tiger xl (im 82 kg and 183cm) to complete the quiver 5.11 i had the op2 christenson for a while but i find it too rockery. And love the op4 for up to 6+- feet days. I also have the ci 2pro in 6.2 (was lucky to order one of the demo models before stab in the dark comp) for bigger days and and the pyzel ghost 6.3 when it gets 8+ Viewing the review i dont think the red tiger will be a good choice as a daily driver with a bit of performance on it im afraid of more than one video with this “need to get used to the board” feeling, specially that flat long section. A friend switched me one board for the holy toledo 2 with 30.8 lites and live it ( but volume wise it shortens my sessions because i get tired sooner) @noel please review some christenson boards specially op1 i think for small days would be a blast in california and im . Courious how the lane splitter will perform out from bali.

@@Austindgaff Road mine about 10 times. I live in North County San Diego. Waves are fun. Most days are ideal for a daily driver. I had a few amazing rides on the board but did had average to above average speed down the line and the tail did not release a lot. Just look at Noels waves and compare the White Tiger to the AstroPop or Gremlin. He looks way better on the two other boards in my opinion. It did stick in the pocket really well. There were some good qualities of it

the P2 is looser and more versatile for me. It seems to have a little more rocker and that loosens up the board a bit more. I prefer the P2... it has a better wave range and still fun in the smaller surf. The RT might carry a little more down the line speed though.

Hey Noel, nice work with all your reviews! I was looking forward to trying this board, now I’m not so sure… I don’t mean to critique your analyses, but the waves you surfed this board in the ocean, compared to the phantom are miles apart & I feel that if you had surfed this board in better waves, then you might have drawn a different conclusion. It looks like the board needs a more lined up wave, like a point break for it to really shine… Thoughts?
@surfnshowreviews7777
@surfnshowreviews7777 10 ай бұрын
No doubt the waves were better for the Phantom. I think the Red Tiger need a wave with some push for sure. It will go good in point breaks and Beachies… but not sure it carries the speed in 1-3’ mushy waves with its low rocker. I personally like the Gremlin, Whit Tiger, and Astro POP better for 1-3’ mushy waves. Overall the Red Tiger is pretty good as a Thruster but it was really fun with a Twin + Trailer in the pool and the point breaks I put it in

Hey Noel I’ve asked you about fins for my slater No Brainer before I’m try to decide between your fins and the nvs fins. I have the super quads in they seemed to hold great in head high plus for a stable which helped my confidence on take off but I want it to be a little looser on smaller days. Should I get your quad set up, ordering your 5 fins or do you I should use a 2 +1 one? I have the Rasta 2+1 haven’t used them yet cause I thought your pivot quads would work better. I’ve heard good things about nvs and they’re a little less money which helps. The. There’s Kelly’s new fins. So I’m confused on what to get. Also I’m going to the American dream mall wave pool in north NJ( I think that’s what it’s called). That doesn’t look like the best wave pool, and looks like a really quick wave requiring a super face pop up. What do you think I should get for the money.
