Patrick is so supportive, you can see the concern in his face when you talk about hard times in your residency. Ok and by the way , him playing the piano as you get ready for work is straight out of a movie. I would love to get ready everyday to his music. ☺☺

I just love when Patrick plays before you head to work. Such a beautiful way to start your night. You two were meant to be. As for those spicy comments from two weeks ago don’t you pay them any attention what I love about your vlogs is that you keep it real and don’t make everything seem all roses when it’s not. And that’s what keeps your fans coming back for more Keep doing you Rachel! ❤

I can see how residency sucks the life out of you at times, but I can also see how happy you are with Patrick and how much he pours into you, it makes me so happy for you! 😊

Thank you for sharing this video. I was in that same state you mentioned where you're so busy it's a choice to either eat or go to bed and sleep another 30 minutes! Working overseas was my experience, and it was the most intense, exciting time of life. Best of luck! Listening to narrated books on KZbin puts me to sleep so fast.

I randomly had the idea that you and Patrick should play the theme from up as a duet on the piano, it would be so cute! (The song name is married life by Michael giacchino) ◡̈

The week 2 sign for week 3 is so valid! I used to work nights as a cna in inpatient cancer care/med surg. Yo, I didn't know what day I was on, what week, I was all kinds of lost. Then the drive home was absolutely insane. Trying to stay awake was hard. Thank you for sharing all you have accomplished and your trials and tribulations going forward. Thank you to your partner, Patrick, as well for always helping you out and supporting you! ❤

Also, when you ask people if they understand, many will say yes even if they don't. It may be due to pride, overwhelm, or even culture (many from third world cultures or indigenous cultures will not question their healthcare providers out of respect). So I find it better to have them explain back to me their understanding of what's going on with them and the plan of care. That way I know for sure they're understanding the whole concept or what areas I may need to find a better way to explain or teach to them 😊 Also, it helps them process it and retain it better in order for them to explain it to their loved ones.

Yeah, “teach back” that’s something I do at the end of the encounter.

Question: Are you now in your second year of residency? As physicians, salaries are considered the 1% of all careers. Therefore, as a knowledgeable fact, do medical schools teach medical students about money management or managing their wealth? Once residency ends, physicians would start making their big salaries. In addition, big bonuses, yearly salary raises, and other business ventures etc.
@kedmunds97815 ай бұрын
Hey! Not Rachel (Obvs) but I do know something about both of your questions, so I'll give my 2 cents. 1) residency years typically run on a start/end date of July 1 (sometimes a bit earlier than that) so yes, Rachel would be considered a 2nd year shortly. There might be some nuance to that depending on what rotation and the length of it though (if you end up being on week 3/4 of your night shifts for year 1 when July 1 rolls up, you technically might not start year 2 until July 8). 2) Medical schools do not teach money management in general. This can lead to many physicians being poor due to both a) the mindset that loans can never be paid off, so why try? and/or b) the sudden jump in income causing a lax mindset where you think you're good, and end up having a Lifestyle Inflation problem. Because the majority of Physicians are coming from families that are well off, there is likely some inbuilt financial management knowledge from there. Lifestyle creep is a potential issue for everybody though, and continuing to live like a student (with some extra cushion) for your first few attending years can make a huge difference long term. Hope this helps!

Maybe a weird comment but I believe painting your walls at home white or off white rather than the bright yellow would make it look a little more homey instead of hotel-ish? Idk why but these bright yellow colours always remind me of hotels or other public spaces haha!

Yeah it’s the apartment complex that painted them. We are considering changing it to white. Costs money though.
