This is truly amazing that you can function at all with such little sleep. People often ask me why I didn't go into medicine and I reply with because I need my sleep and I know I wouldn't do well at all with night shifts. Also, you should get a higher pay when working nights too. It's so unnatural and has to be putting so much strain on your health. I have one night with 5 hours of sleep and it takes me two days to recover from it. I can't imagine days upon days like that.
@trowwzers50578 ай бұрын
And I thought my 70 hour weeks at my old job were brutal. At least I got 8-9 hours of sleep every night and I only worked during the day I am a former opioid and benzo addict and I went 7 days straight with 0 hours of sleep because of how brutal the withdrawals were. I started hallucinating until a doctor prescribed me Seroquil for sleep. I’m 5-6 years clean from opioids and benzos and I’m 8 days clean from Kratom

Residency sounds like hell 😂 what’s the point of these brutally long back to back hours? Genuinely curious. She works 3 weeks in a row with one random day off, how is that safe? How is that healthy? These residents are young & learning so much in this crucial time. Something needs to change, residents deserve better so they may perform better. Ridiculous

I can’t imagine that those hours are healthy for anyone to continue to do. Like others have mentioned if there are minimum rest requirements for pilots and flight attendants there needs to be the same for doctors and nurses. I understand that health emergencies don’t care if you’ve been working for 40 hours straight but you know what? The human beings trying to diagnose you are just as important. Maybe people wouldn’t leave or be as stressed if they got actual rest.
@mepplin35088 ай бұрын
forcing healthcare workers to work an unhealthy amount of hours is asking for medical errors. & of course the healthcare workers are likely to be the ones taking the bulk of the trouble if those medical errors do occur.

Where your headache is located is often associated with neck and shoulder muscles. So I suggest you rule out neck and shoulder muscle tension for your headache before you move to more intense investigation of the cause of the headaches like CT or MRIs. I recommend a massage or physiotherapy as a first line treatment if it continues to persist, especially if it wakes you up from sleep. If you want to try something at home, try chin tucks and lying on the ground with a small rolled up towel in between your shoulder blades for 2-5 minutes trying to relax and stretch out your muscles.

@@A---ti3zzsame thing with me When I quit opioids and benzos, I went to a psych hospital that drugged me up even more and left even more addicted. I didn’t sleep for 7 days straight and suffered severe headaches, the inability to stop walking (I walked 20 miles a day), no appetite and a feeling that a hot skewer pokes your legs if you stop. I finally got prescribed Remeron which helped me sleep and gain my 30lbs back from the withdrawal. I took Kratom because it stopped my legs and I felt better Very recently, I quit my job and I was still addicted to Kratom and I contacted my doctor for some sleep meds. He didn’t reply for a week and I went 5 days straight with 0 sleep until he prescribed my Seroquil for a few nights. This happened this week lol

Wow, again can’t believe residency programs still operate like this. Horrible way to learn and incredibly dangerous for the patient. I hope your second year gets easier. I remember that each year that followed my intern year in family practice got easier. Brought memories of rotating through labor and delivery oncall at night. The beeper going off every 10 minutes with extension number “666”. Very appropriate for the long hellish night that awaited. 😊

What’s crazy is my husband is a high school teacher and coach and routinely works 18 hour days and doesn’t even get paid as much as a medical resident, let alone have the earning potential of a doctor after training. Super depressing.
@smallcatbigmeow8 ай бұрын
Hey not to be rude or anything but just curious why you think a teacher should earn the same as a doctor? Surely the level of knowledge required from a teacher is nowhere near the same compared to a doctor (who also has to make life or death decisions)
@DaltonsFriendswood8 ай бұрын
@@smallcatbigmeow oh I’m not saying that at all. I’m just saying that it’s crazy that at least a doctor has the earning potential to make the long hours somewhat worth it, but a teacher/coach is expected to often work the same type of hours that end up being way below minimum wage. Im not at lol saying they should make doctor money, but anyone that knows a teacher, and knows what they have to put up with thinks they should definitely make more money than they do.
