Thank you Doctors for your expert advice & taking the time to help us. I have osteoarthritis & cpd, I have been told I need a replacement, I've NEVER been offered hyluronic gel, just steroids that don't give relief anymore. Respectfully ask, how do I choose a orthopedic surgeon for replacement & or how do I converse with the Doctor in asking for the gel, I choose not to take pain meds & anti-inflammatory meds are hard on my stomach. Sincerely, thank you. P.S. apprehensive about any surgery.

Hi Evelyn. You are very welcome and we are very glad to hear that you found the videos helpful. Finding a surgeon can be difficult. Looking online is one option and reading the reviews. Asking your family doctor who they recommend. Or best of all is word of mouth from someone you know and trust who has their own surgeon. With respect to asking about injections, simply ask if you can have one. It is always possible that it may not provide you with relief but ultimately it is up to the patient. Hope that helps. And thanks for watching.

Thank you for taking your time to help us all, great work! I have a question... I have just had meniscus surgery and they have found out that I also have osteoathritis. I have been given medication but they are also planning to inject my knee with some kind of gel, which they plan to do once a year... What can you say about this gel? Thank you in advance!
@TalkingWithDocs
@TalkingWithDocs 6 жыл бұрын
Hi victor Darren. Glad to hear you are recovering. The gel is likely hyaluronic acid. This is a very safe and effective treatment for osteoarthritis. It does not cure or reverse your arthritis but will help reduce the symptoms. Response is variable with respect to the amount of relief and the duration but most people get something out of it. Good luck!

Hi Rachel. It really depends on the location of your disease but often the same implant that is used in older patients

Can you do one on Stem? It’s so alluring, but I can’t find anything legit to support it. It’s also not covered by insurance and very expensive. Like $5000 for a shot and supposedly in has to be cord blood? Is it suppose to work permanently? Are you guys seeing studies or cases where it works longer term. Currently what percentage of the time does it work? That is a lot of money but I would do it if the odds were better than 50/50 and it’s permanent. How far off do you think we are? Major confusion on this topic. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

Hi Becky. I think at this point it is difficult to endorse stem cell therapy for arthritis. There are many ongoing studies and many different techniques but there is no solid evidence that it can halt or reverse progression at this point. We will continue to review the topic as evidence presents itself. Good luck.

What are your thoughts on Micro Fracture surgery for the knee and have you done a video on it?
@TalkingWithDocs
@TalkingWithDocs 5 жыл бұрын
Hi BodyBreak. Microfracture is a successful treatment in reducing pain related to more focal areas of advanced arthritis. During arthroscopy, a sharp awl is used to penetrate exposed bone in hopes of encouraging blood supply to allow the formation of a scar type cartilage. It is not a perfect solution but often helps improve symptoms depending on the clinical situation. Yes, we have done it and most surgeons would have done this if arthroscopy is part of their clinical practice. Thanks for your question and for watching.

The P.A. said congrats you've fast tracked your way to osteoarthritis. Then he said I broke of 2 pieces of cartilage in my right knee. Also, I will need two months of physical therapy. He said you will never walk the same way again and offered me a knee brace. I forgot to ask for it as I left his office. He was a jerk. When I asked can they take the pieces out he said no the doctor won't take them out. Any thoughts on this?
@TalkingWithDocs
@TalkingWithDocs 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Elizabeth. If there are loose bodies in your knee they can be taken out. This will not cure your arthritis so you may still have ongoing dull aching pain but there are still some options. A second opinion is always a reasonable choice. Thanks for watching.

At age 57 underwent tibial osteotomy and it wasn't worth, spent 5 weeks on crutches before started to support the operated leg,recovery was hard, slow and after all didn't help at all, I wouldn't recommend it, there is a lot of trauma since they literally cut your bone to insert bone tissue from a cadaveric donor!

@TalkingWithDocs
@TalkingWithDocs 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Betty. Thanks for commenting. It is difficult to say without examining you and your imaging however it sounds like you have done a fair bit so far. Physiotherapy and bracing are other options. Ultimately if your arthritis is severe, you should have the discussion with your surgeon about the pros and cons of total knee replacement. Hope that helps. And thanks for watching.
