I don't know if it's a lack of competition or a collusion issue that they feel they can glue RVs together these days to save money and then play games stonewalling the victimized RV'ers. Since Liz did a video on RV manufacturers who are "doing it right" maybe it's more of a limited lack of competition problem due to the large amount of mergers. In any event, I think there should at a minimum be Congressional hearings into the industry for possible Sherman anti-trust act violations and also have the US Department of Justice conduct an investigation to recommend new laws and to possibly break up some of these consolidated companies.
@todddoster64875 ай бұрын
It took a lot of work to get John Deere to turn around on the right to repair, even bringing and winning a lawsuit. Irony is John Deere wanted to repair it, and has always been good on warranty. Many RV manufactures want to take your money and then tell you it is not our problem you bought a hundred thousand plus piece of junk. This is what happens when competition is gobbled up and an industry is allowed to self-regulate.

I have a 2020 Thor AXIS that I purchased brand new, and I tell everyone that will listen, do not buy any Thor motorhomes. When trying to get it repaired, Thor offered for me to bring it back to the factory. I told them it’s apparent that they were unqualified and incapable of building it properly, why would I want to bring it back and trust them to screw it up worse. I could list everything that was improperly done at the factory, but to keep it short I’ll just say that I wouldn’t accept a brand new Thor motorhome if it was for free. What I am happy about is deciding to down size to the smaller AXIS that cost a lot less than the Thor Magnitude that I originally went to purchase. I really would have been pissed if I had paid twice the price to get a bigger piece of junk motorhome. I hope the lady gets her money back.

That was way back when I first started researching and at this point I’ve lost count of how many people have confirmed what he said. I’m terribly sorry for what you’re going through. jaybee , would you create a KZbin channel on your thor 2020 rv? NO thanks. , I will just rent a cottage or a log cabin.
@jaybee22214 ай бұрын
@@go5582 I’m not interested in making a KZbin channel. For the most part I’m qualified to do all the repairs myself, I don’t trust the manufacturer to do any repairs. As far as chassis failures, the rear brakes went out and the chassis was under Ford warranty. A Ford dealership in Arizona said they wouldn’t work on it and it needed to go to a RV dealership for repairs. When I explained that I was calling a Ford executive in Detroit for assistance they decided to go ahead and replace the rear axel brake line at no charge. I had the front tires replaced and a front end alignment done last year. The alignment technician said it was obvious that they never did any suspension or alignment adjustments after the coach was built on the chassis. I could go on and on about the poor quality and workmanship, and the many coach failures that have occurred. This is my last RV and it is mostly because of the manufacturer, some fault with the dealership where I bought it new. The same name dealership in another state did their best on a major system failure, but in the end I upgraded the firmware myself to get the new touch screen and motherboard system working properly. Guess I could write a book about my Thor Axis and all the problems. Whenever I come across other Thor product owners I query them about their experience with them. I sure miss my old Winnebago!

Thank you Liz for holding the manufacturer’s feet to the fire. I have owned virtually all types and makes of RV’s over the past 14 years, from a trailer to a 40 ft diesel pusher. Also was a member of RV forums. Although I never owned a Thor product, it was the vast majority opinion on these forums that Thor builds a poor quality product. Based on my RV experience, I would opine: 1. Do not buy an RV unless you have good mechanic skills and, or, have a healthy checking account balance. 2. I know of no RV owner who has not had to make repairs on their unit. Post if you are one of the lucky ones who have not. 3. You are buying a luxury item - a toy. Never, ever, finance this purchase. That will put you at risk, not only for the depreciation hit, but exposure to a large repair bill. 4. Take note of the high price of today’s RV campground fees. $50 per night is a bargain these days. I just reserved at a KOA outside the West entrance to Yellowstone NP. $135 per night - and that’s with my KOA member discount. Another park I checked was $200. I found no sites available at all in Yellowstone (Fishing Bridge, etc) one month out. 5. Take note of the cost of fuel. The 40 ft diesel pusher got an average of 7 mpg. Feel your wallet pucker as you pull up to the pump with a 150 gal tank. 6. Want to full-time in an RV? They are not made to live in full time. Check your warranty. Claims could be denied if you full-time.

I've read somewhere that the average person who owns an RV only uses it about three weeks out of the year. Let's just say you use six weeks out of the year average. My son has a saying and it goes like this "if it flies, if it floats, if it drives on wheels, rent it don't own it" You can rent a lot a lot of RVs in the next 5 to 10 years for a lot less than $160,000 and if they break down it's their responsibility not yours. In my opinion based on the things that I've seen over the past decade or so, the problem starts at the chassis which is the first structure that hooks onto the tow vehicle and the wheels and axles are under it. They are inadequately designed and have poor reinforcing and structural strength. If you could measure how much they twist and bow going down the highway you would be stunned. Everything above that inadequate frame assembly is even worse made out of wood and plastic and crap. if you've ever seen the aftermath of a accident involving a motorhome or tow behind camper you'll see they are virtually destroyed and even in relatively minor accidents. Ask yourself if you'd like to be in one of those camper/motorhomes if it rolled over?

We bought an RV - Forrest River. Leaked on way home from dealer. Turned around and brought it back. Week later we leave for TX. The RV part fails: fumes, no power, banquette coming apart, fridge never worked, water leaking from wall between bed and bath. We had to stay with family in TX. Called FR-said bring to them. Drove from TX to Indiana. There 5 days. Fridge needs to be replaced but they don’t have a spare will ship to dealer. Drive home, 2 hours in it fails again. Get home- put up a fuss. After a month they pick up and take back to Indiana. After 2.5 months it’s returned in worse shape with damage inside and out and still not working. Got a lawyer had Rv inspection and all problems still there- with roof now delaminating because it sat for 2.5 months in the Indiana summer sun. The dealer took back- ate up their loss and Forrest River never paid them. We ended up with at BT Cruiser by Gulfstream 2924 5210 and love it! I have plenty of videos and pics of old RV.

Thor sent out a unit with a piece of the frame cut off/ functionally missing, which compromises everything connected to the downward sloping side. (Slide out was just the first, most obvious symptom.). Never was right, never will be. Can't be fixed to completely as-new condition, because some damage will remain hidden. They owe her a new unit.

Do you think Thor knew about this problem when it sold her this RV???

@@justwannasay5454 Can't say, but the hired outside inspector certainly should have caught it, bears some responsibility. A real shame, because the customer paid extra for proper due diligence, yet the inspector failed entirely. Ultimately though, the manufacturer who sent it out, with a huge safety issue that could have resulted in catastrophic failure, is responsible to make this right via full replacement IMHO. (Everyone involved, plus possibly random motorists, is lucky the first failure was the slide while stationary, not a major fail while rolling down the highway.). The foundation of a bouncing building was sabotaged at the factory. (That genius worker with saw should be prosecuted for reckless endangering negligence on top of fired.) Such a no brainer, builder should be bending over backwards with apology, is vulnerable to a lawsuit. Yet they resist. Turns me off cold to that entire segment of the market.

@@justwannasay5454 The god Thor didn't but it was a Thor RV employee that cut that frame rail! Damn! The employee (or subcontractor) was paid by Thor, they therefore knew it was cut. I always kind of liked the looks of these coaches, but is sure looks like the old 2003 Winnebago Sightseer will be staying for a good long while. At least most of the manufacturing problems have surfaced and been corrected, luckily nothing like the crap Thor did with that slide out and fuel filler.

I purchased the very first 2024 Airstream Trade Wind, Twin Bed Model manufactured by Airstream (Thor). Prior to 60 days of ownership and less than 1,500 miles, I found buckling around the front storage bay which is a sign of “Front End Separation.” I contacted the Airstream Manufacturer and sent them pictures of the buckling and they simply fluffed me off to the dealer after implying that I was using the wrong hitch! I’m using the same hitch that I used on my last Airstream (same length) that I owned for 17 years and towed all over the U.S. which had no such separation problems. I’m angry that Airstream Manufacturer doesn’t want to even look at the buckling on a NEW trailer less than 60 days after ownership and angry that they don’t care that the very first twin model off the line may have a problem that will now filter down to all other 2024 Trade Wind Twins produced thereafter. Just another example of how Thor has ruined another RV Brand!

I was looking at newer Airstreams and you can even see from outside how cheap they are built now. All the fasteners are visible on the outside so it looks like there are dimples all over it. You look at old Airstreams and they have a mirror like finish with no dimples on them.

It was probably not supposed to be cut out, but just done for convenience for some reason by whoever was doing the assembly. And because it was not supposed to have been done, the manufacturer does not believe her that the RV came that way. It sounds like they thought her issue was with that rollout section when actually it was something completely different that just happened to affect the rollout. I am sure it will be sorted out, she just has to get past the communication barrier.

My first RV was a used 37 ft. Diesel Pusher with two slides. I quickly learned that the more gadgets your RV has, the more that can break. I was constantly having to do repairs as well as taking it in for repairs. My current RV is a class-B built on a RAM Promaster. One of the things with a class-B is that generally there are very few changes to the basic chassis, and that means far less repair work. My RV might be smaller than other rigs, but it has all of the amenities that I need, and it has taken me up to Alaska three times, including all the way to the Arctic Ocean, twice to Quartzsite, to Zion NP, to Orlando, and other fun places. I’m really glad that I decided to get rid of the class-A and go with a much smaller, but nimble and reliable rig.

My family and I rented a 34-foot Thor Hurricane for a trip in the southwest U.S. We had several small problems with the coach itself. The Ford V10 worked flawlessly which was good. The interior construction must have bypassed quality control. The bedroom slide door kept coming off the track, the bathroom door molding had a large screw sticking out which my daughter caught her sock on and a minor scratch. While underway, the compartment door above the windshield fell off. followed by the molding on the bunk bed. I made a mental note that if I ever think of buying a motorhome, stay away from Thor.

There could be thousands of this model out there with this problem.

You name it, it failed. In fact, they had found a buyer from out of town. But the motor home went in the shop again before the buyer was to fly in and pick it up. The shop delayed the repair and my friend refunded the buyer his airfare. The motor home is only about ten years old but I'm sure they almost had to give it away.

Worked out a few bugs in the bus, converted it myself in the winter. Trouble free as it is made to be used commercially. Gone from Dawson City to Belize, back thru Florida and Eastern States, and home. Flawlessly. Built with steel, aluminum. Not junk lumber, cheap plastic laminate, and staples. Their are ZERO manufacturing standards for an RV - cowboys can make whatever junk they want, slap a nice coat of paint on it, viola - $100,000 profit. Caveat Emptor

Thor should make the repairs, reimburse her for her expenses in diagnosing the issue, the lost deposits and the payments made during the time it was unusable, including licensing and insurance. It's only fair she be reimbursed for a product that was 100% unusable while she was still making 100% of the payments. Everyone that has had structural/mechanical/safety issues should petition the NHTSA to get off of their butts and ride herd on these manufacturers. But the right side of the aisle is greased with tons of money by them and undoubtedly will refuse to pressure anyone that might send some money their way. Find out who the reps are in the areas of the manufacturers and where these suffering purchasers live and twist their arms. Use local tv and radio stations to cover the stories.

Slide out issues seem a common thread in many of these camper problem videos. As a tent camper, I've seen the various slide out configs at campgrounds, and thought they were a slick way to gain more space. But are they in reality troublesome? Also I don't get why they are claiming the fix is such a huge job. I've got a hobby grade plasma cutter and MIG welder, and would have little problem in my driveway fixing that cut frame support, and probably adding a few others to shore up the support and bring the rollers back into contact with the slide out. (Even though to my eye the thickness of that frame support seems on the thin side.) Jack the shell up back to spec, weld in the supports, and get on with camping.

Does not surprise me. I have a 2018 Thor hurricane 29m that I bought used last year only having 8,000 from the previous owner. Being a mechanic I have addressed several issues that came from the factory defective. The latest one was 3 weeks ago on Memorial Day while driving home with my dog and fiancé when I was stopped at a traffic light and my jack system suddenly came on and said emergency jacks retracting. I did not understand as I knew the jacks were already up. Then someone along side of us said we were on fire. I jumped out and saw fluid leaking down on the catalytic converter and a fire erupted. I shut the vehicle off and got everyone out of the vehicle and grabbed one of the 4 fire extinguishers I installed, crawled underneath and was able to extinguish the fire. The police and fire trucks showed up and they even said I was lucky to have reacted so quickly. I had to have it towed and a day later the shop called me and told me to come down. I was amazed at what I saw and even more amazed I did not notice sooner. The hydraulic lines that come out of both front jacks were actually pushed right against the frame and the passenger side actually got cut since it was rubbing on the frame. Upon research I have learned that with the Lippert jack system there is a safety feature that is built in that monitors static pressure within the hydraulic system and that if there is a static loss when the jack system is off it will turn it self on thinking the jacks are lowering thus trying to raise the jacks even though the jacks were still fully retracted. The main problem was the when the jacks were installed at the Thor factory. All they had to do was use a 90 degree fitting on both sides of where the hydraulic lines come out of both the front jacks and this problem would have never happened. The lines were coming straight out and therefore right against the frame. The funny part is that the Lippert jack system was doing its job correctly by thinking the jacks were extending and by energizing the system it was actually feeding the fire. This was not Lippert fault but thors fault for trying to save a few bucks by not using a 90 degree fitting coming of the front jacks to keep it from hitting the frame. So the driver side also was the same way and that line was almost cut through as well. We went ahead and replaced both lines and new hydraulic lines. This time they were made up with 90 degree fittings to keep them away from the frame in the future. We were very lucky and God was watching over us that day as if we were driving down the road and this had happened we could have lost our lives. Plus I was lucky I have several safety implements in place for a situation like this. This could have been a complete loss. I do have an extended warranty but the warranty specifically states that it does not cover belts, hoses or batteries if they are the primary cause of a warranty item. Fast forward, I am only out of 900.00 in towing and repairs which are not covered but thank God that I was able to work fast and respond by putting out the fire. So, now I call Thor and tell them what happened and ask if any other customers of theirs have experienced the same problem. Of course their answer was no but they did take a statement from me and they forwarded it to the tech department. They advised me that I would most likely not receive any money for the said repairs but they did seem concerned. I did call them as an fyi for further review on manufacture but assume it will go nowhere. Long story short, I am a mechanically minded person but never saw this after being underneath doing several other fixes that I did notice. It’s a shame that we consumers spend so much money on these yet they are so poorly manufactured. Another thing is the reason these manufactures stay in Indiana is that they are protected by Indiana laws even though we purchase them from other states. We the consumer need to take these things to the federal goverment to have safety protocols in place just like we have in our vehicles. My situation turned out ok in the end only because I was able to react quick along with the help of God in this happening where it did. Until laws are put in place to protect the consumer things will keep happening. I am so thankful that all turned out ok with us but I have to be honest that I am now Leary about driving this unit. Unfortunately, this is just not a Thor problem but and industry wide problem and we need to stand together against the manufactures to provide a safe units for or families.
