This is a very smart move by Legacy and Jones. He can legitimately compete for a win at darlington and giving him an extra week to make sure he is ready and/or to prevent re-injury if he were caught up in an accident ensures he is in top shape to go full attack at Darlington without any nagging discomfort to distract him.

When it comes to back injuries, I hear Bowman last year and Hamlin a decade ago. The big scary one that still lingers in my memory though is Almirola at this this weekends Kansas race back in 2017 with him being in a nasty wreck involving Logano and Danica after Logano blew a brake rotor that resulted in Almirola needing to get cut out of the car and airlifted to the Hospital where he was diagnosed with a compression fracture of his T5 vertebrae. He missed 7 races as a result and It ended up being his final year driving the RPM #43 before moving to the SHR #10 from 2018 till his final season last year.

I'd say take this with a grain of salt. Stenhouse was supposedly safe with Roush until there was some work around after he had signed an extension. Plus, JTGs future is still uncertain, so we'll see if this works out.

I think that team is switching to Toyota even though those co-owners are going to Joe Gibbs. When you think about it it would kind of make sense because if they did that would be another Toyota partner which wouldn't be ruled out of impossible..

Bob Pockrass Tweeted that Kroger likes Stenhouse as Ricky does all of the sponsor stuff with no just Kroger but all of the other companies that appear on the car. It's possible that the 47 Team goes back to Toyota with maybe the 37 car returning so Corey Heim, Chandler Smith & Sheldon Creed can get come cup races.

On the one hand, it makes sense for JTG to get Stenhouse resigned early because if they are sponsor hunting, it allows them to market the team with a driver who has won the biggest race in the series. It is a lot easier to find a sponsor when you have a driver who has been with the team and is willing to stay with the team. On the other hand, Stenhouse is taking a big gamble that JTG or whatever the team will be called next year will find a sponsor because if they don't, he could find himself on the outside looking in if the team shuts down due to a lack of sponsorship. The problem for Stenhouse is that looking at the possible open seats for next year (a majority of which will have drivers resigned), there is probably nowhere else in the garage area for Stenhouse to go, so staying was his best option unless he moved down to the Xfinity (or whatever it will be called next year) series and find a stable ride there and stay.

Good to hear Erik is cleared, even if they keep him out one more week. Kansas makes me think of Aric Almirola and, my old favorite, Sterling Marlin. I got the impression that this particular compression fracture wasn't as bad as others. I'm also glad that Erik is able to get back in the car for Darlington, one of his best tracks. It would have been such a shame for him to miss it.

The last couple of years, I thought Ricky was improving. But this year he has been a bowling ball on the track. Even that incident at Dover, he claimed the #4 wrecked him. He has regressed to what he was 5 years ago.

As someone with back issues (not nearly broken vertebra severe), the line between "I feel good" and "I can't move" is very thin. An extra week of rest is extremely smart. I think the idea of a new owner coming in to what is JTG Daugherty (or anywhere else in the Cup series) is naive until a charter agreement is done. A merger with Spire or Trackhouse seems far more likely to me.
