I don’t think Louis had a wife in the books. It was his brother that had died. He never had a wife or child that died.

Louis did love Lestat but he didn’t really Understand why Lestat wouldn’t tell him anything about the other vampires even about himself. It was only when he met the vampires in Paris that began to understand why Lestat shunned other vampires the way he did. Plus Lestat for his folts and disregard for human life was capable of love at least where Louis was concerned.

It's an awesome movie but Lestat and Louis' relationship is like Rose and Jack ( titanic) it's a forbidden love and despite their differneces they still manage to struggle through it. But at the end their foundations develop a crack and they go ass up.
