Watch as Budget Build Garage completes a mustang suspension disassembly. This mustang suspension teardown shows you every step of tearing down a front end suspension, including mustang control arm teardown, upper and lower control arm disassembly, the right way to release a coil spring, and tearing down everything else to prepare for a mustang suspension upgrade.
You also get to see a coil compressor fail, and then the right way to use a coil compressor. The original mustang suspension setup gets completely removed before the mustang front end swap. If you plan on tearing down a front end on any vehicle this video is a must watch if you want to do it correctly and safely.

Thanks everyone for watching. What front end teardown problems have you experienced while disassembling?

Budget Build Garage Last time I pulled my front springs on my 68 mustang, the internal compressor broke. The engine was out so I was standing in the bay when the spring decided to join its people. Damn thing flew out and ricocheted across my garage. Full pucker engaged.

Just did this on my 63 Comet. Same suspension exactly. Can't empahasize enough to have the proper tools. Especially for the spring. Also, its easier to just buy a ball joint presser to seperate the old instead of pounding with the hammer. I did have to use a sawz all on one of the lower control arm nuts as it was seized to the bushing. I have never down any of this work before - so you don't have to be a pro to do it. Just make sure the car is on jackstands and take your time. Also make sure your kids are not around because you will swear a lot. Especially on suspensions that have parts that are 50 years old. Nice video

I used an internal compressor and chained the compressed spring as a back up. DIdn't kill myself. To remove spindle from the upper and lower ball joints I bought some threaded bar from the hardware store and two large matching bolts, one on each end. Cut the bar to just fit the gap between the two ball joints , then you tighten the bolts out so they apply pressure to the ball joints...Gentle ro mild tap on the spindles should dislodge the ball joints

I honestly like the first option when it comes down to the compression of the spring, the one that you showed is the one I got from AutoZone and used it the same way you said, comes with a plates and I placed it on top where you insert the shock from, cranked it enough to relief pressure of the spring perch take the upper control arm off and reverse the spring pressure again and remove the spring, so much safer I think, for my 62 Ford falcon.

I'm getting ready to put a ridetech coil over setup with wilwood brakes on my 69 fastback. Your videos are an awesome reference. Well done.

I just bought a 69 Coupe and will begin this entire process as soon as time and money is on my side. Looks like a great little car and should make for an awesome reso-mod. Will be my 1st Mustang build and 1st build in many years. I built up a 55 Chevy Nomad, 53 Jeep Willys, 75 Pro Street TA but am really looking forward to this car. Enjoyed your videos on this car build so far and will take the time to check out all your other videos.

Tight/fretted/rusted ball joints and tie rod ends. 😱 I remember first time was a struggle and beating it senseless with the big hammer. Now I use a little pencil torch to warm the very end of the steering arm. I've found it opens it up just enough that a light tap with the hammer uncorks it. Good idea leaving the nut on there to stop it falling all the way out. Also I've used a little bearing puller to load it up then when you heat it, it just pops out. 💀👍

Seriously, how scared where you when the compressors slipped?

It was definitely pretty scary for a second. Luckily we didn't have a ton of tension on the spring yet.

Question: How much did you pay for the Stang? I found a 67 fast back that runs and drives for 5 grand. but of course it needs some love. But a true barn find. Would love to know so I know if it is a good deal!

If it really is a 67 FAST BACK Mustang then 5 grand is a great deal. I would get it.
