I was there with this concert, it was on August 12 1970 in the Intnernational hotel in Las Vegas and this concert is also taken up in a documentary called That's the way it is. I was a boy of 5 years old then (my birthday is the same as Elvis but in the year 1965). It is because of this performance I became an Elvisfan for life. The drummer you name is called Ronnie Tutt and he was a member of the Memphis Maffia, the friendsgroup of Elvis. Other band members were James Burton (lead guitar), Jerry Scheff (Bass), Glenn Hardin (piano) Charlie Hodge guitar (backvocals and classic guitar) the sweet inspiration (back vocals) one of them is the mother of Whitney Houstan nl Cissy Houston. I have seen Elvis 6 times in concert and I had one personal meeting with him and believe me these were the best moments in my life. During his concerts, believe me everybody but really everybody went berserk, they even had to hire a man of 41 years old named Al Dvorin to shout at the end of the concert "Elvis has left the building" or else we would still be there shouting and screaming for Elvis. I even believe it is by Elvis I became later in my life a christian. Why? That has to do with my personal meeting with him. That was June 5 1975 in Dallas and believe me it was still ELVIS, THE MAN, THE GOAT, THE KING, so when he enterred the room I said to him "Mister the king" and immediately Elvis replied "young man I'm not the king, only Jesus Christ is King" and he went to a piano standing in that room and played and sang a pieces of one of his gospels nl "if you get discouraged, just remember what to do, reach out to Jesus, I said reach out to Jesus, come on reach out to Jesus, He's reaching out to you" and everybody in the room shouted AMEN! Believe me a dictionnary has not enough words to describe how much I miss mister Elvis Presley, THE GOAT!!!

He had a true god given talent in his voice and was a true performer and professional entertainers. These young one now get to see why we the older generation love him and his music and why it was a great shock and lost to the music industry when the King of Rock 'N' Roll died in 1977.

It’s so great to see young people like yourself, reacting to singers/groups from what must seem like the long distant past. I think it would be great if you reacted to young Elvis in the1950s …. A good one would be ….. Elvis Presley at Milton Berle Show (Live TV 5th June 1956) Full Appearance Remastered …… He sings one of his most popular Number One Hits Hound Dog, & does the dancing that the teenagers loved. He was 21 in this performance, with some great dance moves, which Michael Jackson put into his own dance routines a couple of decades later. Make sure you choose the video which says ‘Full Appearance’, because afterwards he was only shown from the waist up when on television during the 1950s, due to complaints. You only need to watch him singing Hound Dog … the video goes on for longer, but no need to watch the rest. Enjoying your Elvis reactions.

I know it's hard, but keep in mind this performance happened over 50 years ago. With 50-year-old technology. And it was really live, no lip syncing. Those were the days when singers and bands came together to make wonderful music. No digital stuff, no getting bits and pieces from wherever and putting it together via a computer. This was pure. Elvis' performances were top-notch, as were his band and backup singers. And he always gave credit to them and showed off their talents somehow in every show. Ronnie Tutt was one of the best, if not the best, drummers. James Burton on lead guitar, John Wilkinson on rhythm guitar, Jerry Scheff on bass and Larry Muhoberac on keyboards. Then the backup singers were The Imperials, Sweet Inspirations and The Stamps Quartet. Every single one of them stellar at their craft.

Elvis had so much fun reacting to Ronnie Tutt’s drums. Also, from that same special he did “Patch it up”. Not quite as high intensity as Suspicious Minds but a very good performance. As a young person you need to see what all the fuss was about in 1956. The teenagers were crazy about him because no singer before had his style. Keep doing your Elvis reactions. The drummer is Ronnie Tutt who was with Elvis from (I believe) 1969 to 1977. He is a legend in hiw own right having worked with many other front men/ performers/ recording artists. Ronnie Tutt was working as a for hire drummer in Texas when he got the news that Elvis was looking for a drummer for his return to the stage. Ronnie took a risk, packing up his wife and kids and their belongings in the family station wagon and drove from Texas to L.A. where Elvis was holding auditions (the building is still in existence; it is now the L.A. Film School located on Sunset Boulevard). Ronnie was the very last in line to audition for Elvis. Plus he also didn't have his own drum set. The guy that auditioned before him let Ronnie borrow his (if my meory serves me correctly anyway). Anyway, Ronnie didn't think he would get the job. The odss of that happening to his way of thinking were incredibly low. Elvis needed a drummer that could keep up with him since he conducted entirely with his body movements/ dance moves and he always did whatever came to him in the moment. They rehearsed the music and songs on the set lists. But when it came to the actual performances Elvis was the consummate showman in the sense that no one never really knew what he was going to do next. He kept everyone on their toes including his own band members and back up singers. Which is why his one word of advice to them was basically, "Just keep your eyes on me now." before show time the first time they performed together. So Elvis thinks he's got his drummer chosen already when he decides to give the last guy in line a shot. Elvis never refused giving someone a chance, Elvis puts Ronnie through the paces, switching from fast to slow to fast again. Elvis is impressed with Ronnie's ability to keep up and be rght there with him so at the end of the audition Elvis says, "The man with the beard got it." The man with the beard was Ronnie Tutt. Thank you for sharing a most enjoyable reaction! I concur with Jenny Jorgensen. You would enjoy performaces from the 1968 Comeback Special. The drummer there is/ was D.J Fontana who had been with Elvis since 1955 and the stage was too small for D.J.'s drum set so the man improvised by setting up a guitar case on a stand and banging his drumsticks on that guitar case during the whole of the sit down shows. Pretty cool in my opinion ;)

I'm Norwegian, so you and I are "neighbours"☺️ Although I'm more than twice your age I'm young in the Elvis world and only went from liking him to become a die hard fan after watching the '22 Elvis movie. It's a movie and not every scene is factual but it still tells his amazing story from rags to riches and it laid the foundation for my newfound knowledge and admiration for this legend. I love love love to see a young man like you give Elvis a chance even when your parents don't appreciate him. They've probably just ignorant of his greatness and/or they have read to much of the sensationalistic garbage about him. I hope you'll continue your journey and educate them as well😘

Jane H …. I have seen Elvis performing Suspicious Minds a number of times, but always so enjoyable to watch. Elvis had so much energy & he had a great sense of humour, & got on very well with all his musicians & backup singers, who were with him from the late 1960s right up until his death in 1977. This performance was at Las Vegas in 1970. Great Reaction from you. I think you will enjoy Reacting to an English group called Hot Chocolate who had an amazing number of Number One Hits all over the world in the 1970s & halfway through the 1980s …. From 1970 until 1984, this group had at least one Number One Hit every year. They had a wonderful funky disco sound to their original songs. A great One for you to watch would be ….. Hot Chocolate Every 1’s A Winner (ZDF Disco 12. 06.1978) … Would love to see what you think of them.

Elvis was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, in a 2 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory. Elvis always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather, Jesse Dunning Presley, was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. J.D. Presley was quite the racist a-hole, often drunk and a philandering husband to Minnie Mae (they were actually separated long before they finally divorced in 1954) who was always competing with his sons Vester and Vernon and who was known to abuse his kids when drunk. J.D. was publicly against race mixing and was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. It was more publicly known that the Smith family had Native blood in their family tree, so when both his sons fell for 2 Smith sisters and Vernon, on top of that, was still a minor at 17 when he eloped with Gladys who was 4 years older than him, Jesse was totally pissed off. As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis. One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". Elvis wanted to be more open about his Native ancestry, but his manager "colonel" Tom Parker (real name Andreas van Kuijk) was against it because he was afraid it might cost Elvis fans (and himself money). They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.

If you think the drums are good on this, watch the concert opening number “Mystery Train/ Tiger Man”. Also Jerry Scheff’s bass playing on this song was absolutely brilliant. Listen to it again just paying attention to his bass part! Elvis & his band will make you a better musician. I’m a metal musician who saw Elvis live. Elvis did movies about Hawaii, and the worlds most ever watched tv show from Hawaii. He is very much associated with Hawaii and did several hit albums of gospel Christmas songs.

BACKGROUND INFO for the SONG: Written by Mark James in '68, it is based on one night when James was fooling around on his guitar & came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James' wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of." This performance is part of the famous DVD entitled "That's The Way It Is" which was filmed by MGM over 6 different shows.
