Witcher did gave him the stage to really nerd out about Warhammer 40K to the point GW, always very protective about their IP, agreed to allow Amazon to make 40K shows with Cavill as Executive Producer. Basically he star in one of the most nerdy universes around and have a good level of creative control over it. Cavill would want to stay close to the 40K lore and that is exactly what GW would also demand. I say he won. 😅

As I recall, Ciri was essentially the pivotal character for a great deal of the source material, but her story is essentially told from Geralt’s perspective. So cutting him out of the show is just proof to me that the writers don’t understand what forms feminism can take. They had an opportunity to make a story about a strong woman, but they’re so devoid of creativity that they can’t comprehend that coming across without making the male leads useless and irrelevant.
@rumpelstilzchen7871

to be fair, she had a huge amount of own chapters. No "story told from Geralt's perspective". (I can't stand her tho so I would prefer more Geralt time too xD)

You didn't even read the books, huh? Ciri is as important as Geralt. She grows up and changes a lot during the couse of the story. Almost half of the books chapters is told from her perspective.
@esmee6308
@esmee6308 Жыл бұрын
The witcher, aside from the short-stories, has a similar split-story as lord of the rings has, you'll have Ciri's story and Geralts story barely intertwining, much like the fellowship after Frodo and Sam split off. Ciri's story is mostly a coming of age, she has incredibly character development, starting relatively weak, making a big mistake, going through and growing from hardships until she's the woman most people know from the games. The show took the same route as many recent stories with 'strong female characters' have, make them strong from the very start without earning it and leaving no room to develop. They also butchered the relationship, especially between Jennifer and Ciri, but Geralt isn't much better off, so a lot of Ciri's driving force can't logically happen anymore.

The best part of all this is Tomasz Bagiński, a Polish producer who collaborates on Netflix's "Witcher" series. Once highly respected in Poland, he now pursues a success strategy on Polish social media, bending reality and convincing utterly disappointed Polish fans of Sapkowski's prose that the series is still a massive success, and changes were necessary for foreign (apparently underdeveloped, in his opinion) viewers to understand. The guy is so slick and slippery, he should become a politician.

The totally insane thing about all of the kind of "forced diversity" casting and sort of shoehorned-in "strong female" characters suddenly emasculating men left and right is that polling in mid-2018 showed that the _vast_ majority of Americans, so about 80% said they felt political correctness/identity politics had become a problem, and _more_ minorities than white people agreed with that statement, for god sakes. So, ironically, the data shows that it's mostly rich, humanities educated white people getting pumped out of Ivy League schools with degrees that cost as much as a decent home in a nice neighborhood who are pushing this historically inaccurate diversity, hamfisted identity politics and "social issues"-obsessed writing onto people's screens, when most people hate it. It's totally ridiculous to have a show whose source material have it essentially set in a fantasy version of medieval Eastern Europe look like the East Village in NYC.

I’m from Poland and I known Witcher from when I was a little kid. I remember playing the first game on my cousins computer when I was maybe seven or eight. And reading this books when I first learn how to read. I love this world, I’ve never seen another fantasy series where everything seems so alive. This world is so beautifully constructed. When I first saw that Netflix is going to adapt is I was very happy, that I heard about casting Henry Cavill and I didn’t like it (in my eyes he is to pretty to play Gerald), but still I waited, because I wanted to judge it only when it comes out. Then I saw rest of the cast and wasn’t pleased (especially with Triss who don’t have red hair in this adaptation). Than I saw first season, and thought that a lot o tv series don’t have great first season and than the start to be really good (like bojack horseman) so I waited for season 2. I stopped watching after they killed Eskel, without any reason or sense. Like cmon, we didn’t even get to now his character in this adaptation and they killed him. We couldn’t even form any emotions towards him. So I stopped watching. I hope that some day we will get a good adaptation. It’s a great source. It’s just sad what Netflix did to this world.

Hollywood has FORGOTTEN THE ART OF MAKING THINGS. In one line, "Studios are spending twice the money for half the audience". LOTR was released over two decades ago, yet people remember it like it was yesterday. It inspired people to tap into the Tolkienien lore and appreciate the world that the great author created. To its credit, even up until Infinity Wars, MCU was doing something along the same path. However, in their quest to monetize everything, they traded stories for agendas. The thing with AGENDAS is that people either buy them or don't.

I remember when fans were roasting Netflix over the casting and wardrobe for The Witcher, even on Henry Cavill, right up until he had that interview where he refused to call fans toxic; he called us passionate and stuck up for fans. The media up til then was promoting The Witcher really positively but after that, they started being against it. Anyone remember some of the citics who skipped most of the first episode to go to the middle of the season, then watched the end and complained it made no sense? Yeah. The showrunner had to do "Woke Damage Control" so she doubled down on the nonsense for season 2. Critics loved it, fans hated it. And then the low key black balling of Henry Cavill started. He went off narrative and stuck up for US, the Fans, so they've been punishing him since. And now that he's left, the writing sucks and we, the fans left, we get blamed AGAIN for the fact that they are talentless hacks who only know how to Woke Scold and have ZERO creativity. This just goes to show that even mice and dogs are smarter than a certain group of humans... who could be given the acronym "IF"... They did a study on big mice and little mice. If the big mice didn't let the little mice win at least some of the time, the little mice quit playing. To borrow a saying from an old sci-fi movie, "The only way to win, is not to play." Well, in a lot of ways, the "IF's" are the bigger mice... but these "bigger mice" are dumber than actual mice... they haven't yet learned that sometimes they have to let the "smaller mice" win... So the "smaller mice" are quitting... refusing to play the "bigger mice's game". Worse... the "bigger mice" are getting mad that the "little mice" won't play with them anymore... and are off playing games (pardon the pun!) by themselves... no "big mice" allowed. So the "big mice" are invading the "little mice's"... uh... "burrows"... by invading and subverting the things that the "little mice" enjoy.

One of the big things that's not been really talked about that makes the books so good (and the games as well tbf), is that there is a real focus on the tensions between the different races and different kingdoms and neither shy away from showing the darker side of war and discrimination, this world is not a nice place to live at the moment, its cold, its being ravaged by war, disease and despair, the inhabitants of this world are having to make awful, disgusting choices, trying to survive. This is such a powerful tone that is a constant in the background of the books, yet watching the show apart from characters telling you they are on the verge of war, it just doesn't feel like it at all.

Because they are bored and feel like it and no one is going to stop them Netflix and Disney and Amazon keep doing this and does anyone complain? No It's like their boards are puny whiny soy boys whimpering about how they shouldn't act like this And the CEOs just shove them over and then fart on their faces stepping on their faces snd walking out Nobody in these companies is stopping their CEOs The CEOs know this So they will squeeze every last dollar out of their company. Drive their company out of business and then retire living rich for life . And so long as no one in the company does anything about this It won't ever stop The companies will keep going out of business and assimilated by other big companies who will stick around until they go out of business ans are sold to another big company and rinse and repeat rinse and repeat

This is a true story, in my home village in Poland, upon hearing that a black man would be attending a wedding, half of the older women stood by the roadside to see what he looked like. Now times are changing and you can now meet sometimes people of a different skin color, but in the times when Sapkowski was writing The Witcher or the first Witcher games were being created, it was a great rarity.

Wow it is so interesting how a story set in like, "medieval fantasy Poland" will have almost exclusively white and Slavic characters. And almost as if diversifying it for the sake of diversifying it, takes away from the setting and immersion. It's like if you write a story about ancient tribal Africa, you don't randomly shove in a few white and Asian characters that just happen to be white and Asian in an ancient African tribe. Or you don't write a story about the early samurai periods, with a few white and black samurai for some representation tokens. And it's not like people hate a diverse cast or a world setting with a lot of diversity. Game of thrones is a good example. BUT it makes sense in GoT setting, because there are multiple lands with their own cultures and predominant races. And the places where they intercept, are major metropolitan cities, where people from other cultures come to trade or travel. But in GoT it wouldn't make much sense if like 10% of the Starks and other houses living in the cold North just happened to be black with no explanation. They are supposed to be inspired by the medieval Nordic people.

If I'm watching a series which was written off from let's say african literature, I'm expecting to see people from the same culture and race. Surely no one likes to see their originality gets played with just because of someone else's decisions. No one would appreciate it if black panther was a middle aged uncle from the Middle East.

He is just epic and always a fun read. If you like sci-fi, folks, check out these writers. Also, Janusz A. Zajdel's outstanding book, Paradyzja (Paradise: The World in Orbit 1984) would make an amazing series as long as the writers don't Fu*k up the source material. I would like to see Lauren Hissrich be tasked to either retell of an Sub Sahara African folktale in the 12th century or retell a Chinese Folktale, like Mulan also set it also in the 12th century. The Witcher could be assumed was based in the years of the 12th century so it could par with the timeline for Polish folklore was based on in the books. I would like to see Lauren Hissrich say "I could imagine everyone would imagine everyone in Sub Sahara Africa are black so therefore we are going to race swap half of everyone into East Asian and European decent to make it more accurate for the modern world, same thing to be set for medieval China where the likelihood of running to someone of European decent would be slim." I wonder if Lauren Hissrich would be willing to race swap people from other geographical locations where everyone could imagine where most of the people living there would be one single race before the 20th century ocean liners and airplanes had existed.
