Such a great book series... such a fantastic game, such an awesome author and perfect main actor (Henry, the ONLY possible Witcher)... it's not only a missed opportunity, it's an utter disgrace what they did. Of course, the idea was never to do The Witcher, which they hated from the beginning, for the sentiments and values it held... [ 2:30 ] All that damned hellspawn of Lauren Schmitdt and her 'staff' (of social engineering and propaganda) needed to do was just to translate EXACTLY, LITERALLY, the already perfect story, nothing else. This was the biggest, easiest layup of the century. The games gave them the look and feel that the show could have adapted. The books gave slam dunk stories to use that still connected to the games that so many millions love. Henry was rip roaring ready to go to do the absolute best Geralt characterization possible. And look what happened. As the saying goes, Netflix could screw up getting laid in a whorehouse on payday.

Simple solution. Keep the Main story lines focused on the NAMSAKE of the show. Hercules and Xena, genders aside, did this just fine decades ago. Xena became really popular and instead of making Hercules the "Xena Show", they gave Xena her own show and both did very well. With Cameo's between them to maintain their ties.

This was a trend that started in the aftermath of Occupy Wallstreet in 2008. Remember that and the Financial Collapse? Apparently people organizing scared the shit out of people like Larry Fink and George Soros, so they use Blackrock/Vanguard/Soros Foundation to pollute and destroy our beloved fandoms for the sake of 'promoting' a divisive brand of DEI/ESG to get "the people" at each other's throats. "Wokeness" is a purely corporate-created construct intended to divide us into warring camps. If we're busy hating and fighting each other, we're not fighting them. Thus, scummy left-wing activists with no integrity or morals and revolting right-wing grifters were activated and deployed.

Season 1 felt like a good intro into the universe; yes the stories were trimmed and shortened, but as someone new to the franchise, I felt it helped draw me in. Season 2 was ok, Freya Allen really grew into her Ciri and the events between Ciri and Geralt were some of the highlights of S2 for me, and Henry Cavill puts in a shift and a half throughout to try and make the best Geralt he could. Apparently he put a lot of effort into helping Allen and Chalotra build their confidence in the first season. He was the show's ace because he's a fan of the franchise!! Netflix had a ready-made diplomat to help build-bridges and smooth things with die-hard fans, he even went above and beyond to offer suggestions and input on how to placate potential fan criticism. He was literally the perfect team player and ambassador to the show and they threw him under the bus. This could have been the greatest fantasy series ever made and I'd still pan it because of how Cavill has been treated. I'll probably watch S3 just out of respect to Cavill, but beyond that I'm out, which is a shame because this is a franchise I'm now into from watching the show.

I don't think it's really all that strange at all, when you try to look at the bigger picture. There was a massive boom in the streaming business... which means that they needed a lot of new shows. That meant that they suddenly needed a bunch of new/additional writers... and inevitably got a bunch of inexperienced writers... as well as talentless hacks... AND people who knew nothing about any existing source material(s). So, that's THREE different problems... and I'd guess that MOST of the writers for any NEW show suffer from at least one of those conditions.

I never read or knew about the books or the games, i was into the show because of Henry Cavill and my love of fantasy genre shows. I thoroughly enjoyed season 1 and i remember watching season 2 and thinking wtf is going on, why is the story so different from season 1? And all my favourite characters were either killed, abandoned or had taken on an entirely different personality, to the point of where they weren't the character I used to love to watch. I remember thinking it was so much more boring and i barely got to see Henry in action. Then season 3 came around and i thought it was better but still so boring a lot of the time. Even Geralt's scenes were boring but at least I saw more of Henry! It also bugged me that so many random characters got screen time that i didn't care for and it didn't make sense how some of the characters interacted with each other compared to earlier seasons like where'd their old personality go? I was irritated by the stupid singing scene on the boat, that was boring AF! It made no sense to the theme of the show I'd been watching. And that ciri desert episode was incredibly boring and a massive waste of time, who approves these ideas?! I loved Geralt and Jaskiers friendship in the show at the start, but then for them to not build on their friendship at all was disappointing, and Jaskier's barely in the show because random other characters got screen time instead. Then Jaskier gets a random love interest that was boring AF to watch with ZERO chemistry. He only worked well on screen when interacting with Geralt in previous seasons. I decided to turn to online reviews to see what people thought or if i was alone, only find out everyone was pointing out the same things and that there is a whole book that they didn't follow the storyline of and it absolutely shows! If someone like me can notice these things and didn't even know about the books then that should tell Netflix they are ruining this show!

I only played the Witcher 3, which I highly recommend if you have 150-200 hours to spare. I watched the first season and even if I was infuriated by some of the cast choices made for diversity's sake (especially Yennefer who is described in both the books and the games in excruciating details as the complete opposite of that actress they chose) I carried on with that season. But when they decided to kill Eskel in season 2 in the dumbest way possible, I realized that it's not worth wasting my time so I gave up on it. Of course Eskel's past as a badass monster hunter meant nothing, every single witcher medallion malfunctioned during the monster's infiltration and all those 100+ years old veteran hunters were all tricked by a plant monster. How stupid is that? Now they made Jaskier aka Dandelion bisexual or whatever when he was a well known womanizer that got in trouble too many times because of it. Fuck this shit.

Completely agreed. The 1st season should have been introducing Geralt by following him around slaying a bunch of monsters and dealing with even worse Humans. I said it the moment Henry announced he was leaving and I've said it ever since. I will not watch S3. People ask me why and shouldn't you watch out of respect for Henry? And I say back, it is precisely because I respect Henry that I choose not to watch. Let me explain. Henry, by announcing so far in advance of S3 that he was leaving the show, is telling us, the fans how awful this season would be. If S3 was anything remotely close to good, he A) wouldn't be leaving and B) even if he was, he wouldn't announce his departure until after S3 aired in order to give it the best chance for success. Months ago he warned us without saying it, "This is shit. I was miserable filming this shit. You will be miserable watching this shit. So, please don't watch this shit." As for me, I'm looking forward to watching him slay heretics in Warhammer 40K. Maybe they use Ms. Hissrich's face for one of them. She certainly is a heretic that needs to be slain. So no, it is *_NOT_* some "out there theory" that Hollywood is has a political agenda and wants to put politics and social messages in their media. It is literally a requirement to even be in business and get investors!!!!!!!! They use a standard framework to grade their Economic, Social, Governance scores from using the Global Reference Initiative(GRI). Also, guess what else can easily boost your ESG score if you are getting behind or have some bad publicity......you can just boost your DIE! (Diversity, Inclusion, Equity). By hiring a bunch of BIPOCs (Black, Indigenous, People, Of Color). Which is why we have seen Disney replaces the white actor with a black actor instead in their classic remakes or remasters. They do not actually care about diversity, they care about their ESG score which can be boosted with DEI by hiring BIPOCs. (These are the official acronyms). And yes, all of these acronyms are created by the government and the stock markets, and global economic forums and stuff. They all agreed to run buisness like this and create all of these grading systems. So yeah, this is not some crazy theory. So if you hiring some colored people and push political agendas that are apart of the ESG grading system then you will get a higher ESG score which gets you way more investors and gives you business advantages. This is why Hollywood is hiring a bunch of out of touch middle aged Karen wine moms and young progressive people who are so open minded their brain fell out causing them to forget about story writing and character creation & arcs. Instead they focus on a half azzed mediocre story with boring characters and put all their effort into making a movie that gets a higher ESG, DEI, score by putting in BIPOCs for the sake of putting in BIPOCs to get a better score, as well as putting in politics and social messages which boost their score and give them more investors and buisness advantages.

Ciri is arguably the main character in The Tower of the Swallow. It's only...6 books into the series. Might as well get everybody acquainted with her character now right ? Granted, she has significant parts in Baptism of Fire also, but I digress. They are a long way from reaching that material and it's a moot point now regardless. Whether they try to trudge on for years to come or admit they done fucked up and cancel the show, it's already dead. Now we get to wait and see if amazon will find a way to ruin WH40k like they did Wheel of Time. People should have been lined up and shot for what they did to WoT . My take is they do this on purpose, that's the only explanation I find logical. Like they sit down and think how they can manipulate, destroy and piss off source material, fans and people in general just because they can. You know like while back, centuries ago when landlords just do what they wanted because they had land and the common folk didn't, so It was just a game of power... well I think the same happens here. It's easy, respectful and honoring to do a great show based on this story and beautifully crafted world, with well written intricate characters; where you could just explore their arcs and let the story unravel itself. It's more complicated to just do this crap, and they put effort in it, that's the thing that motivates this people. They do it because they can, to piss off the common folk "consumers" that we are. So we can complain and talk about it; but at the same time, do nothing.

A writer should know something is up when an actor (or the talent) who is depicting the character that has been written for them is saying they disagree with how the character is acting. The talent always b**ch about stuff - more lines, more screentime, etc - but when they say something along the lines that there's a mismatch between the source material or continuity with the character AND the depiction of the character right now, a writer needs to review. Unlike some modern creatives, you can't just patch up a storyline with different variations until you find a storyline that can please everyone and neither can you make an established character into its opposite without some writing that makes sense. As mentioned by a lot of people, a diversity of thought can appeal to everyone a diversity of labels only encourages separation.

@engineergaming8920 I wouldn't go as far to say it was on purpose. I think that Netflix takes all of its big budget projects very seriously, they just put their faith in bad producer and gave her too much freedom after season 1 was more or less a success. And you can't blame them because she had a great resume also before. She worked with Netflix and Drew Goddard for Daredevil which was the best Netflix show for the longest time and also Umbrella Academy was not bad (though I don't think it was made by Goddard but she was one of the exec-producers). Also, she didn't do a bad job with the first season. After Witcher season 1, she was regarded as the best female TV producer, so Netflix jumped on that and gave her all the resources and backing. I just think that a little success got to her and she felt like unleashing her "creative independence" and took the work of her team for granted (including Henry). She probably still believes that she did well with the next two seasons.

We said much of the SAME things while watching it...more like yelled the same thing, "OMG, WE ALREADY SAW THIS!!! The WRITING IS TERRIBLE!!! How is Geralt suddenly there?! Were he and fake Ciri just down the road? WTF?!!" We were screaming at the TV almost nonstop. And I was done after they made Dandelion/Jeskiel queer. I kept saying it, "I swear to gawd, if they turn Dandelion gay, I'm OUT!" Well, needless to say, I'm out. And it's not because of him being gay, I don't give a hoot about gay characters, and it's not like there weren't enough gay characters to pull from in the source material (Phillipa, DUH!), but I DO give a huge hoot when they REWRITE MAIN CHARACTERS to be gay/bi for "diversity and inclusion" sake. That's NOT "honoring the source material". That's writing your own queer fan fic under the IP of someone else! It's dishonest and screws over the fans. When writers and showrunners are more interested in scoring out-of-story vanity points like “hey, we’ve got a girl-witch!” or “hey, we’ve got boys in love!” rather than scoring in-universe story points like “this character had real internal growth!” or “these characters found the reason why they fight!”, the story stumbles. I’m not one who is going to bang the “go woke, go broke” drum, because enough people bang it already. But the idea of gutting the in-universe drama for out-of-universe style points is using entertainment media as SOCIAL media, of mistaking the message of the authors as the message of the story. If the authors want to hire all female leads and nothing but gay action, go for it! But make those leads meaningful, make that action have stakes. While this is true it is still a lot of bullshit to be honest. If the source from the books was that important: Why he then enjoyed the games so much? CD Project did also a lot of changes to the source material and no one cared about it. 99% of the players do neither know the original books nor did they even play Witcher 1 ever. In my opinion there are some simple reasons why the current season is not that sucessful: It is fucking summer in the northern hemisphere and most people are outside instead of watching netflix. Season 2 came out in december 2021, while covid. Are they seriously comparing a summer release with a december / covid release? Also the season comes in two parts: I'm not interested to only watch half of the series now. And to be honest: Currently the season gets only reviewbombed because of all the circus around it and everybody says "the writers suck"... blabla... while this is the same mediocre series as it was in season 1 and 2. I love canvill, he is a good witcher... and season 3 is more in favor with the books than the last two seasons... which is the funniest thing of all... but damn all this blownup shit from every content creator or mid 20 kid, because "he is one of us" (gamer, nerd etc.) is more than annoying. It's a typical 2023 first world problem....

Why does he pick such terrible projects to act in? So far, the closest thing to a watchable movie he's been in was Enola Holmes and he was barely in that. The DC stuff was painfully bad, MI movies stopped being watchable 3 or 4 movies before Cavill tried one, and I know I sat through The Man from UNCLE but a can't remember anything at all about it. Since' I remember random bits from even really bad movies, I think actively blocked that one out.

To fully understand how colosally they butchered the Witcher you REALLY should read the books... its not just raceswaping and giving Yennefer too much space. They completely left out important storylines, changed whats left and filled it with their own bullsht, characters act like different persons, beautiful multilayered dialogues are simplified into generic cheesy shallow mess. Beautiful example of how messed up this is when Geralt sleeps with a whore, gives her all his money, so he has no money to pay for a room and they used this as his motivation to search for a striga and he doesnt even know how to lift the curse from her.... every single aspect is so out of character it actually hurts. Like holy sweet mother of god what are they smoking in Netflix?

It's become increasingly difficult to want any subscription service at this point. To know that it goes towards 90% garbage propaganda and the slaying of established stories just doesn't sit well. Why would I want to pay for all the awful shows when I only watch a few, or older content. Also, again.. the blatant propaganda and downtalking to audiences. Thought mansplaining was bad? Try dumbsplaining. It's where novice idiots explain childish concepts while believing themselves superior.

Dear WGA: What if you called a strike and nobody noticed let alone cared? With luck your walk out will be permanent and pave the way for some new and more adult writers to get work.
@RuerlKhan

Also, most of the writers on strike are not affiliated by Netflix, the writers doing the work on the various comedy shows are also on strike, and they have nothing to do with bad netflix adaptions.

At first I thought it was just a classical nerd rant about an adaptation taking liberties to tell a new story. But what kind of artist would like to copy paste another material ? Then all the rant about witch-her and and the fact that they were too many women and a gay relationship is kinda ridiculous lol (the only 3 characters he found ok were Geralt, Stregebor and Djikstra). And then personnal critics on the producer. Why not. But it leaves very little room for actual critics of the show.

Indeed. AI doesn't have the emotional baggage or political leanings that people have. It would be simply facts, and what is available as source material. Which is exactly what people who are fans, would want.
