A little suggestion for improving results. Change drivers several times during the test in order to avoid the driver bias and also change cars positions on highway (or keep a safer distance) to avoid aerodynamic biased results

The Mazda was on front, so you have to consider that this SUV takes the whole air pressure and will have bigger consumption, if the Mazda was as second car, than you could expect much better result. Ive made with my Mazda cx 5 with I-loop 2,5 L/194 HP yesterday 5L/100 km behind a Truck with arround 90km/h for arround 30 km highway and 15 km city. You can drive it really cheap, but only when you are under 110-120 km/h, than with constant speed the engine shuts 2 cylinders and you will lower the consumption.

Weigh the cars before and after the test (after fill up) to get a more accurate fuel consumption result. If a car weighs more than before the test, it means you put more gas after the test than before the test and you have to adjust your calculations accordingly. The same goes if a car weighs less after the test than before the test. It means you put less gas after the test than before the test and you have to adjust your calculations accordingly.

Hello I think the main idea of the test is good. But I have a few observations. First, when rolling on the highway, distance between cars should be longer to avoid wind resistance being broken from the car in front to the following car. Less resistance, less gas consumption. Second, of road should be measure without measuring gas (i did not understand if actually it was).

They never tested the off-road version of the CX-5. Also, Mazda states the CX-5 is not meant for serious off-road operation. The newer CX-50 with off-road software apparently is the best they offer now, but they never tested it. Amazing to me is the Mazda with only a 6 speed automatic and technology dating back to 2012 still got the best gas consumption of these four cars. Sometimes old tech with an engine is the most economical apparently.

1. a great shortness; Mazda was always in first position and this is a disadvantage (ask for it from any cyclist). In the past, rehearsals have been made about it, probably a 10%, perhaps more, should probably be removed from Mazda. 2. Mazda moving first had to curb and check more while the others could prevent decelerating in advance and accelerating a little less.

Fuel consumption test is bogus if you did the little convoy shown on camera. Any hypermiler can tell you the lead car is at a disadvantage because it's the only one that has to push against the air. Of course putting at least two car lengths between each car would make it more fair, but it doesn't look like you've done that. I haven't gotten to the economy portion of the video yet but I'm guessing the leading CX-5 either came in last or second to last to the Equinox with the more powerful and thirsty turbo engine. Edit- I was wrong which suggests the drivers of each vehicle kept an appropriate distance from each other, no slipstreaming. I'm surprised the Rav4 with a CVT didnt win the economy test, but it is the least aerodynamic of the 4 which does make a difference.
