Kirti, you normally have such a happy face while doing these songs. And this song starts so nice musically, it was interesting watching your face as you realise this song is actually a nightmare. Good reaction to these songs. "Luka" is a classic insight into child abuse, as you both noted very well. "Keeping Awake" -- the music, which is lilting and flows so beautifully... in contrast to the lyrics. The key to the lyrics is the first verse, in which the singer reacts to someone calming people in the house while blue lights (police) are visible. Maybe a crime has been committed, etc. She thinks about the peaceful time under trees, blankets down, to come (tomorrow), but is frightened today in her bedroom upstairs, while helped by the calming, soothing voice of someone in the house. My interpretation for everyone's edification.

Hearing the tune as a teen I understood it but was somewhat desensitized to it having my own issues. Hearing Luka as an adult with a child, it brings a tear to the eye.

Me and my brothers grew up like this. I'm 53 now and still some what mentally and emotionally scarred by it. For a similar message listen to rush everyday glory or the song little girl which I think is by Tim McGraw. I had to see a shrink by orders of my school when I was 8 because I was anti social and fought a lot. The first thing I was asked was how were things at home and I lied and said it was ok because I was scared. If nothing was done by the state my dad would've killed me and I do mean that in the literal sense. It's hard for people especially kids to step out of an abusive relationship.

The song 'My Name is Luka' is about CHILD abuse. Suzanne is singing the song about a child (a little boy) who lives in the apartment above hers, and who is abused by his parents. Perhaps if you also watched the official music video, you might have gotten a clearer idea.

The sad truth is, children have always been far more at risk of harm from a parent or relative and/or a close family friend than a stranger. So now kids are kept in and watched constantly out of this stranger fear and it is a minimal risk at best. Society has gotten very strange.

It is not her who is abused but the young boy "Luka" who lives upstairs from her. It is a beautiful song that speaks of a sad and serious thing that is child abuse. Ciao from Italy.

It's a boy of about 12 years old relaying the lyrics. Yeah you only get that though when you see the video. I remember this song was in the top ten on a 15 hour trip down to Florida. Heard it a lot on the way down and back.
