I had a '10 Ninja 1000sx which I traded for the '23 GSX-1000GT+. The Ninja is a great bike and very similar. The ergonomics of the GT are better for me since they are a little more sporty. Engine performance just about identical. The Ninja may be a little smoother and both bikes have some buzzing around 5000 rpm. The Ninja has an adjustable shield but I usually kept it low due to wind noise. Overall I prefer the GT just for the ergonomics since I'm 5'-8".

I’m 5’9 and did the bar risers. Took them back off after two rides. Put me up too much in the wind on highway rides and made the bike feel more top heavy at low speeds. It’s taking me way too long to get to the 600 mile service due to heavy workload this summer. So far I love the bike and am happy to be off of the Harley kick. Last five bikes were HD’s but I’m over it.

I have the GSX S 1000 2018, the older model, but I love it. I have changed the bike to suit me, I added Handle bar risers that bring the handle bars up and toward me, I have also purchased an aftermarket seat and got after market suspension. I added a Ventura rack and go for very long rides and camp on it. The bike is extremely comfortable now and suits me like a glove. It did take some time to get it sorted particularly the seat as I still had to get the after market seat altered but well worth it in the end. The risers were difficult to source as off the shelf risers did not fit this model. I ended up getting them from Germany. I am in South Australia. When I got new tyres , I got the angled valves , would find it hard to live without them. All the mods are on my channel if you are interested Mate. Comfort is just so important. Take Care 😎

I have had mine for 2,700 miles now and I have to agree on two of your points. The seat is the same as the gsxs1000 and it is not a touring seat. I am 6' and my a$$ and left knee would start to be unconfutable after an hour. If you ride it hard through the canyons it was fine. I bought the style seat, and it is better, especially if you sit back on it. The straight valve stems suck they are hard to work with and I find myself dinking around to get the tire pressure I want on a particular day. I bought the bike so I could go on long rides and my Aprilia Tuono 660 was more comfortable. BUT. As a sport bike this thing is awesome, and I can bring my lunch. I live in Canyon Country CA and have hundreds of miles of twisty roads starting less than a mile from my house. It handles, stops and goes with most sport bikes. I even got it up to 150 mph (speedo) with the bags on it BUT. I don't think I could ride this thing more that 300 miles in a day. At my age after 150 miles of hard riding I am beet up from the feet up. It's a beast but not what I bought it for. I still love it because it is what it is.

My cons. 1. The brakes at low speed have poor feel. Sub 10ks/hr 2. After 1 hr I get a sore bum and sore shoulders. This is very rare for me. My last bike I did 100,000ks and recall getting a sore bin only on very long trips, 1000k plus days 3. Screen is too low, the wind hits at neck level, right below my ears so it's noisy 4. Kms remaining on the gauge is very pessimistic. At "empty" it still has at least 4 litres in the tank. So at zero kms remaining you could do another 80ks or so. Pros 1. Very good value for money 2. Sporty touring, its gixer frame amd engine are fantastic 3. Light weight, 16kgs lighter than the 1000SX, and 50kgs lighter than some of the ADV bikes 4. Looks way better than the modern day touring alternatives 5. Stock sound is great 6. It's made in Japan

i have a gsxs gt 2023 and a zh2 2023.. i can say that the ergos and handling is different.. in twisties and comfort,gt is better. in power,obviously in zh2 . the zh2 is like a rabid animal when you want it to. the gt is tame at low band,but if you want it to come alive,then push it to its limits..both are a keeper..great review,ride safe!

I have one of these bikes that I picked up in June. I am a little under 2000 total miles in the saddle and have found it to be fairly comfortable for a couple of hours at a time. A short stretch of the legs and a few minutes off the seat have me ready to go for another stretch. I am happy with power and handling but like you I find the windscreen to be a bit wanting. Thanks for your review.

I looked seriously at the S1000GT but knew it would be uncomfortable for me and I wasn’t going to bother trying to make it more comfortable. Never had good outcomes with that approach. Test rode a Versys 1000 GT and it addressed all my concerns so I got it. I can put a lot of miles on the Versys with shocking ease and in very high comfort. Might be worth a look, if you haven’t already.

I'm 6'1" 190 lbs. I thought the windscreen was ok until i took it on a 300 mile ride. I always wear earplugs, and the wind turbulence coming off the bike/screen is torture at highways speeds. It hits right at the neck line. I didn't think much of it because i had plugs in. When i got to my destination and removed my earplugs, my ears were ringing so loud i was miserable. Two weeks later and it's finally calmed down a little but still not the same. The experience has left me baffled. The three bikes I've had before this were all naked bikes: SV650, MT09, then Indian FTR 1200. I took all of them on 300-400 mile tours and never had my ears ring like this after wearing earplugs. That turbulence is a nasty thing on the GT+. I've actually considered giving up riding after 27 years of riding because of this experience. Not worth losing my hearing over. I ordered the new on the market Puig Touring screen with the built in 7 position spoiler. Had to order from Italy as it's not in the States yet. I'm hoping this works for me. I even considered a little shorty screen, but i feel that's not going to work for this bike. I am hear to tell you if you're around my height, the stock windscreen will make you deaf, earplugs or not. The turbulence literally vibrates your skull and earplugs may make it worse with turbulence because it's the vibration, not the sound volume. The earplugs create a pressurized pocket of air against your eardrums that serves those turbulent vibes right into your middle ear.

I experienced this on a multistrada 1260 after doing a 5,000 mile road trip over a month. Wore earplugs every time, but now I have intermittent tinnitus. Wind management is huge if you’re going to be doing a lot of touring, take it seriously and find out what works for you before you crank up the miles!

I put the Michelin Road 6's and changed the rear to a 190/55/17 on my GT. Handles 1000 times better. My next upgrade will be changing the chain and sprockets to increase the torque and flash my ECU to remove all the restrictions. "Comfort" is subjective to the rider... I replaced my V-Strom 1000 for this machine and although there is NO comparison to the level of comfort the V-Strom had but, I find the GT to be acceptable for me. My wife doesn't like the rear seat position as it slides her forward into me so I will be recovering the rear seat with a grippy overlay material.

I don't have the gt, but instead the older gsxs 1000, I have no issue with the seat. I found that both this and the ninja 1000 benefit from a proper dyno tune and would recomend this as you can remove a lot of restrictions. When it comes time for a new set of tyres, you can get the 90 deg valves fitted then, and there are far better tyre choices available. A better rear shock will also transform the machine and can be done at home.

BIG QUESTION- Considering adding a windscreen to the MT-10... and not needing much luggage capacity (I would add a simple rear rack)... and dismissing the low fuel economy... Would you rather have the MT-10 or a Suzuki GT? Unfortunately in the US, test rides are rarely available.
@averagebiker
@averagebiker 11 ай бұрын
Personally, I'd still go for the GT - the MT-10 was comfortable on my back, neck and arms long journeys, but the wind blast was tiring and I didn't feel comfortable sitting above 80mph for any length of time, whereas 90+ is fine on the GT. If you can put up with the wind blast (I still got it with the Yamaha tall screen), the MT-10 is fantastic and my favourite bike I've owned, with the possible exception of the SDGT.
@888jackflash
@888jackflash 11 ай бұрын
@@averagebiker THANK YOU. No one else has done any official comparison between the two, and they are my top choices for 2024. I already own an FJR1300, so my Big Road needs are covered; as long as I can reduce the wind-blast to a tolerable roar, I think the MT-10 would be my choice. PS- the FJR also had bad wind-roar, until I experimented with screens and little plastic trianglular wind "vectors" at the fairing edge.

Mine was a test bike and I road it for a 1/2 an hour and was impressed. The problem is it doesn't become unconfutable until about an hour or so later. Still an awesome bike if you want a confutable sport bike. I am 56 and as sport bikes go it is a great balance. A sport bike that hauls A$$ but is not hunched over and has good wind protection. It is a much better sport bike that a touring bike. It is a weird blend, more comfortable that a naked and just a bit slower than a sport bike?

Mine is a great upgrade from my gsx650f in every department but doesnt have as comfy seat and the vibrations kill my arms to the point they are rock solid when i wake up next morning after an hour or 2 ride. But i know i need to adapt and adjust a few things like handlebars and suspension to dial it in to me and maybey clench the tank a bit more with my knees and not lean on bars as much ( old habits from my still owned previous bike i suppose) I also agree the brakes and tyres are great ,as all other reviewers copy each other saying wooden brakes and not confidence inspiring dunlops??? I dabble in grip strength training (CoC) so the brake lever feel is good for me, and the tyres you need to remember are sports touring which i can get a good lean in long sweeping bends with comfort and the QS compliments this mid corner if reqd as opposed to being set up for track getting the knees down . Im just excited when i eventually do need tyres and brake pads ill go for what folk are saying and i can see the big upgrade for myself as a bonus.

nice video, I currently ride a Yamaha MT 09 and want to switch to touring but I don't like the Corsover & Adventure, I heard from the dealer that MT10 can be a good switch by installing a touring package. what are your opinions for this? You had ridden MT10 yourself and can you make a comparison between MT10 and supersport touring
@averagebiker
@averagebiker 9 ай бұрын
Yeah, that was my rationale behind getting this actually. But so far, I don't think it's a very good distance bike. The bar risers have sorted the shoulder pain, but I don't really like being on it for much more than an hour and a half. I found my MT-10 really comfortable - it's just the screen isn't really a touring screen so it's tiring for any length of time on the motorway or at high speed, the luggage options are very limited and the fuel range sucks (100 miles to fuel light). I did but an MT-09sp recently but I sold it after 2 weeks to go back to an MT-10 (SP this time). If I had my time again, I'd just suck it up and get an adventure bike instead of the Suzi. But I'm currently thinking the MT-10 might be more comfortable for touring than the GT. But the compromises I mention mean it's too compromised for proper touring!

I'll be looking hard at this and the Ninja 10000sx next season. I very much prefer the look of the GSX but I have seen some reports about timing chain noises (potentially from the tensioner) after the bike warms up. I have ocd and ticking from a brand new bike would drive me nuts. Besides that with the bags the Suzuki is also cheaper than the Ninja with bags and it seems the GT+ is easier to find than the Ninja with bags already installed.

Really want to try the gsxs GT but no bikes available in Australia for test ride. How do you find handling in slow, tight (narrow) twisties? Is the lack of torque at low rpms bothering? Suzuki are Lazy, or tight! This bike should have a V4 engine, not an old Gixer in line 4 rev happy engine. They have basically put a different suit on an old sports bike and added some electronic tec. Clever marketing, keep selling the same stuff ,just change the packaging.

I don't think that sounds much more comfortable - still looks pretty cramped for legroom.

@@averagebikerI've already set an appointment to test the GX. I'm interested in the upgraded electrónics, too.
