Really appreciate the comprehensive review, and that it's focused on the kind of riding one would ACTUALLY do if you own it. The "test" results of thrashing a bike for two days in the mountains is a waste of time. Pleasantly surprised at the pillion remarks, and was expecting - only because it seems nobody can get this right - to hear about the windshield issues. One would think that after all these years, manufacturers would get this right... The other issue I've seen from other reviews was potentially dismal gas mileage. Suspecting over-active right hands by those who were totally enamored by the silky motor forced the mpgs to drop into the mid-thirties, it was great to see it can return what is expected from something that can actually put on some real trip miles. Looking forward to more progress reports. This is very high on my list for purchase.

I dont think the issue if the screen is a “manufacturer “ problem at all. Since life began people have complained about s screens on bikes... being either too tall too small too wide too skinny etc etc etc. The screen cannot cater for every shape or form from the factory furthermore everyone’s helmet is different and in itself is a wind buffeting problem. Take responsibility for yourself and change the screen to suit yourself and stop blaming manufacturers for something that is out of their control- different size, shaped humans 👍

You could try some spacers, such as grommets under the windscreen screws to change the angle. With some trial and error it solved the buffeting I was getting from the V Stream windscreen on my V Strom. A small change made a big difference. Good review and I look forward to more of them.

I agree about the touring screen. I added the not-great looking Puig deflector and it made a big difference, more than you would think. I also went up +1 tooth in the front and down -1 on the rear (-2 wasn't available when I ordered from Vortex) and it dropped the RPM's about 500. Chain only had to be adjusted slightly, less than 1/2 a mark on the swingarm.

This has been a great video to present the GT. Taking the time to be thorough when explaining features is always appreciated, otherwise it’s only an uninformative summary. Although I had first decided on this bike, it changed when other reviews (their perspective) noted, 1) the wind buffeting, as you noted, 2) “thin” paint, not as refined as the Ninja, 3) shorter gearing to keep the revs high compared to the Ninja, 4) more aggressive riding position compared to the Ninja (tighter knee bend and more forward lean to reach the bars, 4) no standard rear pre-load adjustment as on the Ninja, therefore quite an expensive add-on for the GT as you have done and of course as you noted the wooden feel of the brakes. Both bikes are great, but I felt the 3rd gen improvements of the Ninja gave me the choice for Sport Touring. I’m sure you will have many enjoyable miles on the GT. Thx

Thanks for watching and commenting John . I liked the Kawasaki and it is more refined ! Just a little too big for me and I quite like the slight “edge” the Suzuki retains - through gearing and power. Have fun on the SX . I suspect we have both bought “ good “ bikes 👍

Brilliant review and much appreciated for the time, effort and detail you have put together. Instant subscribe. I have had this bike on order for over 7 months here in US and your review has kept me confident that it will be the one I keep for 10s of Ks over the next couple of years. Very well done! One comment... forget the "old school" and get some good ear protection! For what you spent on the mechanical upgrades, you could look at top-end, active noise cancelling apparatus that will absolutely transform your ride. The fatigue incurred from auditory pressure/stress is almost ALWAYS underestimated and I'm willing to bet your enjoyment will be significantly increased. I had a riding friend who said they were MOST effective when carrying the pillion-wife... but that's another topic completely 😂😂

Hi I ordered my suzuki gsx s1000 gt on the 5 october 2021 Took delivery on the 5 th april 2022 panniers did not arrive till late june .My thoughts on the bike after now having done 3650 is this . I think the bike looks fantastic in the suzuki racing blue. 1 brakes sorry but I disagree with you I find they have no feel and you have to pull them hard to get good stopping power my 2018 v strom were better. 2 tyres yes the are terrible I am just about two change them next week. 3 seat becomes uncomfortable after 120 miles 4 I dont realy care about the sat nav or phone connectivity yours eyes should be on the road lol 5 but I can forgive this bike everything because the engine is so good smooth pulls from any gear not sure if it needs a gearbox I have been riding for over 50 years and have done close to a million miles on bikes of all kinds But i think this bike is the best regards louis

Fantastic revue as always. Currently own a 2022 Z900RS which I am in love with. But having been eyeing off the Suzuki with the view of it being a better option for short 2 or 3 day trips solo or 2up. Using Oxford soft bags which work brilliantly but a bit of faffing around fitting and removing. I will have a test ride next week and see what we think. Unfortunately I am not in a position space wise or financially to keep the RS which makes me smile every time I look at it and ride and will not ruin it's lines by fitting frames and hard panniers. The Suzuki looks like it will forful my desire to have a sporty bike to ride with the boys in the Twisties, but also bagging up and touring with the wife. Thanks so much for the review , particularly your wife's comments on pillion comfort. On first glance I had my doubts. Chers

UK prices are often different to the States . Fitting the Nitrons made the GT the same price as the Kawasaki equivalent so it was a simple question of “what bike do we prefer” ? From memory , which is variable 😂, about £1500 . I kept the standard suspension .

Good review, I took one out for a test ride last weekend and after having a GSXR 1000 K3 and a Bandit 1200 this was a nice change - like you I have looked at the Nitron units for this bike as I have them on the other bikes - the standard tyres took a bit of effort to put the bike into a corner but I could change them and the brakes had little feel to them but again maybe a pad change would improve things. All in all a lovely engine (basically a K5) and the bike made me smile and it looks like I will have one for next year.

I agree this GT doesnt look the goods for a pillion and someones opinion is always subjective. Check out and get on a Hayabusa with your partner and you will feel first hand how not only the seat is liberal but not perched up in the air like the GT would be.👍

Very well-done video and the timing is opportune. Your needs align with mine-a retired “man of leisure” who wants a bike that’s exciting to ride while comfortable enough to travel on with his wife, who still tolerates (and even enjoys) this sort of thing. No Harleys or Gold Wings, please! I’m looking at the Suzuki as a replacement for my 2001 FZ1, which I imagine it resembles in a lot of ways, but with the benefit of 21 years of refinement; the Suzuki is the first bike that’s come along and made me think that it could be a worthwhile change. Keep us posted on any solutions to the windscreen issue, whether it’s going back to the stock item or finding a better option on the aftermarket. Cheers!

I have just done 7000 klms in 3 weeks on my new black GT. My previous bike was a Aprilia Tuono V4r. Strangely the Suzi has more wind noise than the unfared Tuono. The suspension is definitely the biggest shortcoming of this bike. When the road is smooth it's ok but easily gets unsettled when the the road has imperfections. I don't know why Suzuki cuts costs on suspension. I'm not a fan of the front brake - I'm hoping when I change the pads it will have better feel. I'm in Australia and was lucky enough to hit no rain in 7000ks so the tyres were fine. All in all a good sports tourer but not a 'bad boy' like the Aprilia. And certainly doesn't handle as well.

I'm looking at buying a second bike in the future. I did have a Yamaha Ténéré 700, which is a great bike, but found it just too top-heavy, you felt you could drop the thing at any time, and it spoiled my enjoyment of the bike. Looking around, I got a fantastic deal on a Suzuki SV650 from a very local dealer. The bike is much more suited to my needs, and I absolutely love the thing, it brings a smile to my face every time I ride it. Not long after, and very quickly, I sold my Yamaha Ténéré 700, and got most of my money back. While I was in the dealers, fell in love with the Kawasaki Z900RS, but later, I thought, I don't really need two naked bikes. Naked's are great for urban riding, but they're not my preferred choice for travelling at high speed for long periods on a motorway. I once went across the Mersey Gateway Bridge on a Honda CB125R in mid-winter, with 50mph side/headwinds, and HGVs either side, let's just say it was a bit of an experience! I'm past all the adventure bike hype, and let's face it, most will never go off-road, so what's the point of buying one. Buy a sports tourer instead, they're much more suited to road riding, it's what they're built for, and, a lot easier to move about! Looking around, the obvious two standout sports tourer bikes these days are the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX, and the new kid on the block, the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT. My SV needed a service, so it was a perfect time to take a look at the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX, and the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT. Unfortunately, the dealer didn't have a Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX in stock, and couldn't say when they will have any in. But, thankfully, they had a Suzuki GSX-S1000GT. Even though Neevesy, the chief road tester for MCN, preferred the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX, I prefer the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT. All the things he criticised, tyres and brakes, can be easily be remedied at a later date, and the short gearing, I would probably leave alone. But, like you, I would change the rear shock and front internals, and it's something I want to do on my SV as well. When you look at the overall package, such as the 3-year warranty, that superbike K5 derived sporty engine from 2005, the 6.5" TFT colour dash with great integration and which can display maps, then personally, I'd go for the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT. The Ninja 1000SX dash is smaller and can't display maps, something I would say is crucial on a sports tourer, unless you want the added expense of a separate unit. Hopefully, in the not too distant future, I'll be the proud owner of a Suzuki GSX-S1000GT in Metallic Triton Blue. 👍

In South Africa we cover big klms, wonder what is your view on the Suzuki compared to your GS? We love the XR performance and comfort. I will be test riding the GS soon. This will be my last bike as at 63, once i become a man of lesiure, funds will be limited to purchase another bike in the future, so long term realibilty when clocking up lots of klms is a concern on a more sportier engine.

Was it only wet, or wet and cold? Heavily loaded bike, or just yourself? Problems under braking, or under acceleration? What kind of problems? Bike sliding from under you, or just the feedback they provide, or lack of feedback?

Lack of cold weather and wet , grip and feel . Two up, we had 3 small slides in the wet . Probably not helped by having the Nitrons on quite a firm setting ? I have replaced them with Michelin Road 6 and they suit us , and the way I ride. More grip and feel and the suspension more compliant at the same settings . I suspect there is more , controlled , flex in the Michelins . I now run 34-36 fr and 38-40 rear . 42 rear felt disconnected . Some get on fine with the OE Dunlops but they may run softer suspension or ride harder in the wet than I do and getting more temperature into them although I can’t imagine that Michael Neeves , who complained about the tyres , struggled to get them warm? Each to their own . I am neither a fast rider nor a professional journalist so I just call it as I see it , respecting those who see it differently . Hope this helps . 👍

@@michaelmam Thank you for your reply. It does make sense. I think the Dunlops have stiffer sidewalls. Combined with a stiff suspension they might give you mixed signals. I'm a bit at the other end... I run mine at 30-32PSI on both wheels (38 PSI rear when with passenger). I read that the MIchelins are softer, but I don't have any experience with them. I always had either Dunlop, or Bridgestone and now I tend to be a bit of a Metzeler fan.

Nice review & I quite enjoy this format, it makes a nice change from most other vloggers. Out of interest, can I ask why you didn't opt for the Kawasaki Ninja 1000sx? Was it brand loyalty? The reason I ask is that rightly or wrongly I would choose the Suzuki too as it seems a bit more exciting to me despite the Kawasaki being a better allround sports tourer.

@michaelmam
@michaelmam Жыл бұрын
There is no question that shaft drive ( the removal of need to adjust the chain) is an advantage for longer tours ! 3 options I consider are - taking the tools to do it (weight) , let it run a bit loose for a while ( limit to how loose !) , find a local dealer and get it sorted as you go .. Not sure how helpful this is but have fun . Lots of people tour huge distances with chains but the lack of a main stand makes life more interesting . A friend has a ZRX ( no main stand) and tours 5000 miles a year . He mostly adopts plan B ..

I wanted to love this bike and I’m glad you enjoy it, compared to other sport tourers like the versys 1k or a tracer it is far less comfortable. I believe this bike is more toward the sport side than the tour side. I’m sure riders coming from super sports would find this bike comfortable. I feel that suzuki could have done better making this more tour friendly as it is missing some basic tour bike features….I’m sure they will tweak and improve it over time. Great review.

One of the best reviews of this bike. Very useful, thanks. I own a blue las vegas one. Since you previously owned the f iteration, did you prefer the renthal bar it was equipped with or the new one, which is larger and closer to the rider (resulting in a less aggressive riding position)? I'm thinking to try the old bar installed in the new gt clamp since I feel the gt riding position is even too relaxed and not giving enough feeling and connection with the front wheel (I come from sport bikes with clipon bars). Thank you!

Informative and entertaining review from person seriously interested in options for a new sport touring bike. Seems your review covered most important aspects effectively. The fact your wife likes riding with you on this bike and that you had aptitude to appeal to such a woman is revealing as to the value of your advice. If I had to comment on suggestions for including in future is revealing your height and weight so I could evaluate your reaction to fit of the machine to my size and weight. I also would be interested in experience at night and how well the headlights illuminate the road. I try not to ride in rain or at night but fact is when I ride a bike up to mountains both eventually end up a matter of fact. Those little headlights make me skeptical as to if this is adequate for seeing road at night. Thanks for review sincerely Mr. Mam.

Hi Mike , I have mentioned my height and weight in a few videos but do try and make the videos about the bikes rather than me 😂 I am 5’8” and 13 stone or , if you think in metric 172.5 and 82.3kg . I know several much taller riders who get on with the bike well but one 6’2” friend went for the Kawasaki as he felt the GT was for him , “too small”. I regularly ride in the wet (the new road6 michelins have been a revelation compared to the OE Dunlops) but rarely ride at night . Lights seem fine but not exceptional . We are finding the bike exceptionally good for what we want out of a sports tourer but don’t camp nor go for long tours . Others appear to 👍

Yea those massive 'chicken strips' show your taking it easy, but your correct about tires in wet according to most feedback. So thanks

Glad it was helpful . Once I have had a few "moments" on a set of tyres , which I can't put down to rider error, I ride with a big margin for error. Stephen, I also had the F and was quite jerky but put up with it for the time I had it. Recently I purchased the 2019 Suzuki Katana and although everyone would make you believe the throttle issue was fixed - is totally untrue and found it once again jerky particularly coming back on throttle and under light load, also at constant low speed throttle it would “hunt” -which is very annoying regardless of really good throttle control it wouldn’t help. As much as I am reluctant to tamper with the ECU of any bike I have ever owned I took the chance and it was a game changer! After a reflash it is absolutely brilliant now, smooth, responsive and none of that hunting or leaning out feeling you get with modern EFI bikes, changed the bike completely! To top it off my mileage/economy has only suffered very mildly (from about 22kms/litre to about 20.5 km/litre) so has been quite worth the modification. The only negative of course is warranty is void but being a Suzuki I know I never need to worry about any major failures because of their exceptional reliability 👍 Cheers Jeff (Australia)
