Hello there, I share your passion for this bike; ie., the 2005/6 iteration. No catalytic converter and incredible power. I made the mistake of turning 60 and thought I should get a BMW to slow down. What a mistake. I bought a R1200RSE BMW, which was despite all the electronics, a slow old mule. So when I went to look at getting another Suzuki they had put two pipes on it, heavy hydraulic clutch and lots more weight. So when the L series came out with one pipe I got rid of the BMW. I have a new L2, but I missed the 2006 GSXR so much I have bought one as well. Arrives next week. You forgot to mention that this classic model has titanium pipes from the headers to the exhaust. I believe it is the lightest GSXR ever made, and with the crappy EU exhaust regulations probably will be the lightest forever. Apart from that I agree with everything you said, and there is still very few bikes can keep up with it.

I remember back in 1998 when I had a 96 Honda CBR600F3, and all I did was a Yoshi full exhaust with 1 tooth down on the front sprocket, and I was riding with a friend that just bought a SRAD 98 GSXR 750 and I was blowing him away. I didn't even know it was happening because I was just riding with him in a group. It was so bad that he actually thought there was something wrong with his 750. 750's just seem like a waste. In my opinion, get a 600 to do some learning, and then graduate to a 1000. Even the new Yamaha R7 is completely stupid in my opinion. I believe the r6 gives it a spanking. Therefore I went from the XBR to a 2003 R1, which is old as hell, but I found it with only 10,500 miles. I did plenty of upgrades, and it's as fast as I'd ever need, and weighs the same as a 600. 423 wet weight before my mods. Probably 410 lbs now. So, even my 20 year old R1 would spank all 750's, which is why I suggest you try a liter bike. I think you'd never look at a 750 again.

Great video very true K5/6 pulls the hardest of the 1000s its a raw (relativly long stroke engine) Suzuki ponies are big ponies, suspension is supple yet perfect. Mine has 8K miles on most of that on the TT mountain course. Leave the engine and pipe standard its got all the power you need, listen to that intake snarl. Best performance mod...fit an 04 R1 throttle tube for a £5 that way you can open the taps fast and fully in each gear. Best handling mod carbon wheels... ouch£ turns like a 600 over 120mph and brakes get the power back like R1 blue spots. Best touring mod (its true these are comfortable) double bubble screen.

Dean Dunphy I have had absolutely no issues at all.. (knocking on wood) I wouldn't worry about the frame. Haven't read or heard of any snapping or bending the frame. I wheelie it all the time without worrying. 40 thousand miles and still going strong. I put a Yoshimura TRC tri oval slip on and had my power commander tuned last year. It's still putting out 169hp. I think the bike looks great and runs even better. I wish I seen one with that low of miles. I would have two. Good luck and definitely go with your gut when choosing. Take care

Great walk round, well put. BMW bench marked against this to develop their 1000 and that was when this model was 4 years old! I run a K6 (same bike) in the IOM so it gets to really show what it can do, I would not trust anything else, its ballistic and stable. The only mods are double bubble screen, quick action throttle (fit R1 throttle tube) and carbon wheels. You dont notice the Carbons till 120+ as the standard wheels are so light. They they dont come into their own till your flicking the bike around at 120+ so on the Mountain circuit those wheels are stunning but in the UK its bling value only really. Best fuelling ever and pulls from no where.

I only went with a slip on because I didn't feel I needed the full system and it's not worth it to shave a few pounds off,, I'll just lose some weight,, but it sounds killer compared to stock ... Bradders 2016 - They only crack from crashes and slamming wheelies. The welds aren't going to just magically crack on their own. Check the frame and If you crash just get a new frame. Reinforce the welds if you're that scared. Amazing bike regardless. The price hasn't really dropped that much.

Beast of a bike you got there Mark! I read that the appreciation value will eventually start going up due to it's reputation. Still can hang with the new models and like you said, as of now, a fraction of what a new one cost. Keep the rubber side down.
