Is it really a new SV650, or an updated Gladius? We're not sure it matters when it's this good.
Read Visordown's full review of the new Suzuki SV650 here: www.visordown.com/road-tests-f...

Test rode it: Plenty of grunt, especially over 7000 revs. Throbby (but smooth) v twin engine. Very good, secure handling - light and agile. Fun, easy to ride bike. Only real criticism is the thin, hard seat.

Good summary. Yes, ditto below, more of the Bike's sound please! Is this regarded as the best circa 75bhp V twin??

I wish that the split seat stayed. Paint looks good but I don’t like the 1/2 tank painted differently than the other. Bring back the older larger Speedo with orange illumination big glowing indicators and big odometer. Nice not to touch the clutch to start anymore

Nice review again,thanks. Shame about the weight increase over the earlier SV's.
@xorbe2

+Adrian Leeds Still though, 433 pounds is better than the 470-480 that is typical of Ninja 650 / FZ6R / Honda 650F / etc. Probably with light weight exhaust / tail tidy / lithium battery you can get that down to 420 pounds, which seems pretty nice really.
@adrianleeds3468

+xorbe2 possibly but I wouldn't spend $$ doing any of that. My 03 SV is only just quick enough off the lights, more weight and almost no more power sounds unappealing. Plus the steel frame exposes all the bits hidden behind the alloy frame. Backward move for mine.

Surely bike manufacturers can design a way to make seats adjustable in height with some bolt ons / shims / brackets to accommodate riders of different heights. Anyone over 5'11 has to get an adventure style bike or suffer cramps.

What bike would win on a racetrack, the MT-07, SV650 or Z650? Discuss, i'd guess the Z650, would dominate on a smaller technical track?

Why tho? It might be marginally faster, but as far as i'v heard, the suspension is god awfull. (Might change for the 2018 version)? According to tests, the Kawa has excellent suspension, and handles great. Same with the Suzuki, is stiffer than the MT and is just as fast. How would the MT in any way win on a technical track?

I have BIG TROUBLE deciding which bike to pick between the SV-650 and the MT-07. Yamaha wins in design, but that sound of the V2 on Suzuki is brilliant.Also the saddle more comfy! Power delivery, ride quality and reliability comparison between the two would be welcomed!!!! I hear your thoughts and suggestions!!! TAKE CARE GUYS ;)

just get yourself a used second Gen sv for cheap. then use the spare savings for an ohlins rear shock and cartridge drop ins for the forks. all that for 1k without install price.

You already made your decision? I had the same problem deciding between this too (and after also testing the Kawasaki ER 6n even more problems to decide..). I personally felt more comfortable on the SV, ergonomics, instruments (MT instruments are not visible when i sit on the bike) seat height (I´m 1.80m), Handling (160 rear tire makes it more flickable) and Suspension felt superior to the MT. On the MT i like the look and the power delivery is a bit more exciting, but overall i think i will go for the SV. Or for the Kawasaki Er 6n, which you also should test. I liked it a lot as it is also very easy to ride for a beginner (made my license 6 weeks ago) but has a bit of a rowdy character, a funny and very controlable Hooligan bike and sounds awesome even with the stock exhaust.. so hard decisions to make this winter ;)

Who buys a bike on mpg? It's a 650cc v twin it won't break the bank fuel wise.
@cdubbleyoo
@cdubbleyoo 8 жыл бұрын
+Jordan Christie Many buy bikes for the sake of saving fuel. Nevertheless, it is measure of performance and a viable consideration for purchasing.
@Thorens170
@Thorens170 8 жыл бұрын
+Jordan Christie I believe consumption shows progress in technology . It 's funny how modern bikes consume as much fuel as modern cars (in highways) and not significally less in city traffic . Also keep in mind ,especially if you are American , that a liter of petrol in Europe costs about as much a gallon in the States . So generally speaking imo a proper review should provide some information on mpg .
@cdubbleyoo
@cdubbleyoo 8 жыл бұрын
Thorens170 That depends on the bike - the main problem has been a concentration speed/hp numbers rather than increasing economy. The fall off of sales in the 2000s had an effect as well. In traffic the problem is sitting still. Everybody's MPG goes down when you're managing no miles while still using gallons. How much more fuel is needed to keep the average cage motor idling compared to the average bike?

+2002RM Wife used to own a Gladius. We had a full Scorpion exhaust on it from new. Suspension was not the best, but pretty eager and did the job. The engine, though, was pure class. Fueling was butter-smooth and there was always more than enough power. I'd say that if the engine is not worse than that (sounds like it's not by any means) then the bike is a winner for the money.

R1BlackDog I have a 2009 SV650 and its the same motor in the Gladius. I love the engine. It is great and almost bullet proof. But, Suzuki have been using this same design since the 90s and updated it only once with the Twin Spark. I love my SV. That's why I hoped for more. The best thing about the SV was you could put a ton of parts on it. Get rid of the crap suspension with the Gixxer front end (including wheels and brakes) and it goes straight on. Fit a better exhaust, cut the airbox, change the sprockets and you have the bike the SV should have been in the first place. But Suzuki have dressed up some cosmetics updates as an overhaul. And its not.

the question for me is why is the petrol tank getting smaller when, as a commuter, I want maximum range. the original sv weighed 166kg... why are theory new ones nearly 200kg? on mine. I cannot notice any difference between abs and normal brakes. the seat is impossible to take off and put back; on the gladius it was difficult but this one is mpossible
