Suzuki VS1400 Intruder Charging problems The Nuclear option part 1

We've had some charging issues with this trike for a while now. Sometimes you can get lucky and just replace the regulator rectifier, but if the battery has bled back through the generator, the Genny is often toast. Replace the stator, pick ups, regulator/rectifier and battery in one hit.

I did this when we purchased my partners VS1400. Previous owner had attempted to jump start the bike with the battery still in place and arced out a lead on the exhaust, and his home made battery tender was arcing out on the frame.. Fried Everything. The replacement stator I bought had a faulty pick up so while it began charging, it then wouldn't fire on one cylinder. After much wailing and knashing of teeth, I got it sorted, got it running and charging properly. Then chopped it up and made it into a trike.

Suzuki have always had the one achilles heel; the charging circuit. Back in the day we would fit Honda CBN reg/recs. I've had generators where the pick ups were wired the wrong way around, and some where just one pick up is wired the wrong way, and some that were just plain DOA. The new generator the video shows was a dud, bike wouldn't start, I tried soldering the old pick ups to the new stator but it still wouldn't run, luckily I had an original Suzuki gen from a known good bike, ended up fitting that. Odd thing is with these Kung Flu Generators is that they seem to have issues from the box.

I've replaced two batteries one stator and four regular rectifiers one of them actually burst into flames which was a bit disconcerting. The bike will charge but only by less than half a volt and if I put the lights on It drops below twelve volts, it's either a short in the wiring or the same thing has happened. Thank you for your video I'm going to try replacing the whole system as you did, I hope it works because it's driving me nuts! Whish me luck. 🍀🤪🤟
