@@gamesmoney1025it’s about preference really, if you like the adventure, expanding of world, meeting new people/friends (helping them out with whatever situation they’re going through) Dragonball is the better choice. If you’re preference is getting to the action, fighting, power levels type of thing, then Z is the better choice. (Although the Frieza saga was just perfect cuz it had both aspects of it in it ) I love both, but I do enjoy Dragonball a little more for how lighthearted it is and the adventures with the OG crew.

I was feeling bad that Goku didn't end up with Bulma back in the day when it air on my country. It was on the mid 90's that I watch it for the first time. Even before Z.

After seeing DB and going to Z i already had the thought of them being best buds so when the fanbase ships them (and the anime with the filler-only scene during the Freeza saga where Bulma asked herself why she didn't marry Goku) made me very uncomfortable. It's for me like shipping Kurirrin with Goku

The dragon ball manga debut in 1984 The anime started in 1986. The manga takes a lot of elements from the 1592 novel “Journey to the west” (there’s a game coming out soon call “Black Myth: Wukong” based on the same material) Goku is about 11-12 years old and Bulma is about 16-17. If you like the art style. You probably like Chrono trigger or the Dragon Quest games all made by Square-enix.

Depending on what you consider canon, Goku is either 15 or 11 in this episode. Bulma is 16 either way.

@@BestAnimeFreak The other guy is right. Goku thought he was closer to Bulma's age than he actually was because he didn't know how to count. He is 11-12 here. In both the Jp and English versions.

You know, because he randomly found him ... So his grandfather told him at some point he is X years old, even though he was Y years old. "The new story that we all know is wrong (and that probably he would regret after seeing his mistake) or the original published in the main manga that tells the whole story?" Except the original never talked about the things that happened in DB Minus ... "More when the whole original manga speaks about Goku being younger than Krilin who is a year older. " As I said, it depends on what source you take ... Did everyone forget that I agreed he is 11 OR 15? Not that he is definitely 15 and 11 is wrong?

@@AndreDBFightsit's possible for those numbers to work out as him still being 11. IE if his birthday is in July, that's 6 months of time he could have been 11 while still being born in 737.

@@AndreDBFights I was Googling around and I found an interesting answer. In the manga/OG it doesn't seem to give a specific age, but it's most likely 12. The Funimation dub says it's 11. This actually makes sense too, since that means Goku travelled for a few months, then a year with Roshi to join the tournament at 13. Tbh, I'm willing to meet you in the middle and say it's different depending on the dub 😂😂

Dragon Ball through Dragon Ball Z is one of the greatest fighting anime's ever made even for today. Also the story is loosely based off China's "Journey to the West" with Goku taking the place of Sun Wukong. Both Series add up to about 450 episodes so it can be quite long but super enjoyable.

OG DB is more based on Sun Wukong in Journey to the West, so mythical based narrative, whereas DBZ is makes a pivot towards Space Alien Warrior, so science fiction narrative. I prefer OG DB because once the pivot happens it changes the underlying message a bit too much. I love both but OG DB is a superior story imo

I liked DBZ, and only got to watch DB years later and realized it is perfect. The real tonal shift in DBZ happens during the Freeza saga, when in order to generate filler, people start screaming for entire episode's with some flashbacks woven in. The Saiyan saga is just as tight as the later DB arcs are, and does surprisingly much in only 26 episodes.

Goku knew nothing about the dragon balls untill he met bulma, and most people just thought they were a fable anyway. The real question is how she got her hands on the one she started with and how she configured the energy output of the dragon balls in order to make a dragon ball energy locator.

Fun fact: "Son Gokū" is the Japanese reading of "Sun Wukong" ("Monkey King"), the protagonist of the 16th-century Chinese novel, _Journey to the West,_ of which there are countless adaptations and references in Chinese and Japanese culture. _Dragonball_ is a _very_ loose adaptation. I think (although I'm pretty unfamiliar with the the story of the novel, only barely knowing it through descriptions of the plot) Toriyama included quite a few elements of the source material, but there's a lot of original material and material from other sources as well, like probably most of the characters and a lot of the plot. 9:40 This makes more sense in the original Japanese, where "Bulma" is pronounced "Bu-ru-ma", which sounds the same as "bloomers". You'll find many of the character names in _DB_ have specific themes, like clothing and food. Obviously, Bulma is in the clothing category. And Pilaf is food.

No Goku is 11 at the beginning of dragon Ball because during the world tournament Goku says he's 12 due to the fact that he learned how to count past 11. The world tournament has to take place a year later after the event of the pilaf saga because goku starts his search for the dragon Ball right after tournament which only takes place over the course of 2 days.

Welcome to long series. Dragon Ball is always one of the classics in anime. I don't rewatch OG Dragon Ball often, but it's certainly a treat. Hopefully you continue until the end of Dragon Ball Super, but that's quite the commitment. I will watch every single video though.

@@dekamaster100 A lot of people like the dub cast, myself included. Plus, Dragon Ball's dub is accurate enough. There's not a lot of the kind of sweeping changes you'd find in pre-Buu saga DBZ.

Also, may I recommend checking out Seed Of Might's Colour Correction release of this series. The DVD home releases use really degraded colours, makes the series look alot less vibrant than it is. The colour corrected version looks beautiful.

Funny thing is, if you do continue on through to Z, you'll be able to appreciate that silly meme of Rolf from Ed, Edd, and Eddy screaming like one of those DBZ characters and going, "YOU DARE MOCK THE SON OF A SHEPHERD?!" 😂 Best of both worlds. I'm a month late to the party but based on this reaction, I think this is going to be a fun adventure for you, Suzy! 😄 Dragon Ball is just a joyous experience, much more carefree and whimsical than most contemporary anime, with such a delightful 80's/90's feel. Omg didn't expect you to watch Db!! so this show actually started in 1986 and predates Naruto and actually Naruto and many many modern anime (especially Shonen or fighting anime) takes direct inspiration from db! Just be warned tho, this first part has a lot of ecchi but overall i think it's a fun adventure! Hopefully you like it as much as i did when watching the first time!

You don't need to watch Dragon Ball to watch Dragon Ball Z as there is enough recaps from Dragon Ball in Z, but Dragon Ball is a fun journey nonetheless. I started with Z and then GT, then went on to watch Dragon Ball and then Super. It is still best to watch them in order, in my opinion. You won't go wrong with Fullmetal Alchemist either, but it's best to watch FMA: Brotherhood rather than the original simply because it's more fleshed out with more content. Inuyasha is a hit-or-miss series. I didn't mind it, but it wasn't spectacular to me.

So glad U started with the original dragon ball n not a cause now U get such a great and rewarding show from child Goku to adult Goku it's just perfect show both instalments.
