To the people that have said that making Sam deaf is a bad idea and ruins the character that u knew from the game before the show came out: I will say that y'all were clearly wrong. This was impactful as hell. This works beautifully cuz of the reasoning behind it and the execution of it😭😭 Especially when the actor that plays Sam, is deaf in real life. Also this is the episode that Joel is starting to genuinely care about Ellie Like everyone has done just a great job this episode especially the actors of Henry and Sam

For me, him being deaf didnt make that much of a difference to me, its how they made him younger, and we got to see him enjoying being a kid too. In the game its the most gut wrenching part for me, along with Sarah. This has been just the same. Love the way they have done this series.

I love all the changes so far, as much as I don't want to admit, the HBO Sam scene were much more heart-wrenching, I can't stop my tears when Ellie trying to use the blood to cure him, the beautiful of innocence makes the scene much more powerful and sad.

This episode is another reminder of how brutal and unforgiving this world is, regardless of who you are. Something as simple as running across a group of infected has catastrophic effects to deal with and even doing the right thing has consequences. It’s no wonder Joel closed his heart off in the first place. The quicker you get attached to someone, the more likely you are to lose them.

Henry's last words "What did I do...." was pure horror and heartbreaking, you can hear his distraught and despair at same time, and honestly cuts deeper than the game version "it's all your fault!" The moment he realized that everything he has done, people he betrayed are all for nothing, Sam still died in the most horrific way, and what Kathleen said about the "you can't f**k with fate" was right all alone.

I have to disagree here. I prefer the game's version and acting. Both moments were strong, but the game has the edge for me, especially because it is at first ambivalent what Henry is even talking about. In the game you first think he blames Joel and then you realize that he is talking about himself. And the moment you realize he shoots. That was much more impactful for me.

I'm not 100% on them making Sam deaf just so that he's more dependant on Henry. I think it's not a very nice way to represent deaf people as helpless just to make Henry seem like a hero. Don't get me wrong, being Deaf in this world would require dependency on others but to change the story to add it in felt a bit bleurgh. -Steejo

If you think about it, I doubt Anthony was sniping to kill, he was shooting to pin down until Kathleen got there because she and her army was already on her way there. If Joel fired at Kathleen, that would have alerted the rest of the group and moved in on him, and potentially discovering the others. 🤔

Excellent acting by Bella in the scene where Henry shoots himself. Her whimpers killed me and instinctively gave me a fatherly urge to hug her The swarm scene is incredible good and creepy For sure one of the best action scenes I've ever seen Henry's first murder was his own little brother. It must be pure horror to realize what you just did. The "I'm sorry" at the end got me so hard. I cried 4 of 5 episodes and I love this show

The thing about Anthony the sniper is that he doesn't really have shit aim. His orders were not to kill Henry but to keep him there and pinned down until Kathleen could get there. She didn't want anyone else to kill Henry and Sam, she wanted to confront them and kill them herself. So, Anthony was actually doing a good job of shooting close enough to keep them in place without killing them. Craig Mazin said that Anthony is about 80 years old, so he lived for 60 years before the world went to hell, the twenty years since then have weighed heavily on him and he is just tired of this life. What he does with Joel is a form of suicide by cop. He can't bring himself to shoot himself. His gun was pointed at the ground even as he turned towards Joel not to shoot him but to cause Joel to do what he couldn't. He did his job for Kathleen and now he just wanted this life to end.

I liked this episode 5. I think Kathleen was a good new villain. not only is her acting very good but also her character and dialogues are very good, in my opinion. The casting is incredible! Kathleen as a villain was amazing. The live in the world where nothing has much value anymore apart from staying alive. Her brother being taken and killed by FEDRA was what gave her the strength to lead the operation even though she was not cut for being one.

My younger brother and I caught the ending similar reference of Sam’s deaf is like the grandma chasing Sarah. And my brother told me what if it would be sadder if Abby appears and beats up Joel but doesn’t kill him then later, Joel dies in Ellie’s arms and calling her “Babygirl” referencing of Sarah’s death in Joel’s arms.

when henry was talking with joel at the end, i had a feeling he got bitten, and asking if they (the kids) would make it, and then agreeing to going with joel, so they would take care of sam, and the limping, asking sam to go to sleep so he wouldnt know.... little did i know what their intentions were with how the episode was going to play out. i havent played the games, but ive seen a couple playthroughs, regardless, that was AGES ago, i dont remember much, besides the ending, and the beginning of the second game.

Suzy talking about how Ellie was in the same room as Sam when he was turned wasn't the case. She went back out to Henry and Joel after that conversation of what she's afraid of and Sam was in the room alone all night as he turned which is why when she woke up to the smell of whatever Henry was cooking, she went to go get Sam only to find him as one of the infected. He tackled her out of the room, busting open the door like what happened here in the show and it played out as you saw it here.

Even though Sam's death was the biggest reason why Henry offed himself, I feel like the second was everything he did for Sam, all the people that died because of his actions. The Resistance Leader, the doctor, all the people that died from the swarm. He justified his actions because he wanted to keep his brother alive. Suddenly, all the "evil" things he did, as he described, was for nothing. Heartbreaking

Great episode! P.S. American football is one where is is slow, but there's a ton of strategy to it. I.E. You can literally use the clock and out of bounds to secure victory. Not many other sports have that.
