Hey, Brian I have loved your travels and look forward to doing the same in a few years. But I have just notice in a couple of your videos that when you are up the mast in the bosun's chair that you are just on the halyard clip. As a professional sailor I would caution you, its best to always bowline your bosuns chair and just use the clip as a safety. If that clip was to catch on the ringing while up the mast it not a very good outcome. cheers buddy and keep the good times roll'n

Eric Barnett Yea true! Normally on dives like this we'll go deep for a few minutes then spend our time slowly working our way back up the wall so the majority of the dive is ascending, with the last 10-15 minutes < 30 feet. Our computers are set pretty conservative as well. Hopefully we'll never need your services!

How often do you "need to" go to the mast head, e.g. maintenance, repair etc; or do you do it for the thrill? Its something I think would take me quite a while to get used to - if ever!

OldePete I usually try to go up every few months or before every major passage just to inspect the rigging, strands, blocks, halyards, etc. But, sometimes I go up just for the pure joy of it. Hello Brian! Thanks for sharing such great video of the reef! I'm putting SV Triton on the hard this winter and doing a bottom job in the spring. This winter I'm flying back to Pennsylvania to be with family and when I return to Washington, I begin SV Triton's refit. I'm going with wind, hydro and solar power generation and electric drive. Still unsure if I'm going to just overhaul the diesel or remove it in favor of getting more storage space for battery banks. I'm doing some research and picking brains of other sailors out there. Any thoughts? Brian Skipper of SV Triton
@svdelos10 жыл бұрын
Brian Hess Hey Brian- Very interesting thoughts! The only boat I've met with an electric (hybrid) drive was Steve on Dignity. It was a Lagoon 4200 and I believe he ended up converting back to straight diesel for some reason, not really sure. His blog was aboarddignity.com . Perhaps you may have already researched the Lagoon's theat were hybrids. in any case may be some interesting research if you haven't already read about them.Thanks so much for watching and best of luck on your refit!Fair Winds,BrianS\V Delos

How does one get the dingy on and off the boat?
@svdelos10 жыл бұрын
30calRover So we have a lifting harness attached at 4 points that we made. We then use a utility halyard from the top of the main mast and just hoist it straight up and onto the cradle on the foredeck, using one of the winches on the main mast. We hoist it up with the engine, fuel tank, etc. It's a quick job and great exercise! Fair Winds,BrianS\V Delos

Diving is a dangerous sport, which is an intangible that intensifies the thrill. Cert, all for it, the knowledge is what you want. Understanding physiology and recognizing medical symptoms such as the bends or even natural poison exposure, can be diff L/D. Take body core temp drop, I've exp that FREE DIVING. Learn to equalize your eustachain tubes, and exp the mammalian dive reflex. Nothing like it in the world, you don't even fell like breathing. Shallow water blackout is a real threat to good freedivers, don't dive alone. Finding vids of classes shouldn't be hard, this is the information age after all.
