SV650 Fairing Repair and Paint Job

I've been working to get my '07 SV650 on the road since I bought it this fall. Body work and paint was a pretty major job, given my workspace, but it's almost done.

I’m replacing my cracked fairing with one I’ve had painted and am now trying to reassemble the whole thing. Everything seemed to be going rather smoothly until I attempted to attach the bottom skirt which I’ve since found out is called the inner cowling cover according to the parts list. I think my main problem is I only have access to two hands as I can’t line up holes with holes and get the plastic on the outside that needs to be on the outside and keep the little tabs that hold it in place on the inside all at once. Couldn’t find any KZbin videos on the subject either.

It's been a while since I did this, and I've since sold the bike, but I do remember that being a pain in the ass. I also never have an extra hand or another person around to help out.

@@drew657 thanks. I took it to the local Suzuki shop and paid them $50 for 15 minutes. It’s in and I didn’t break anything. Win win

I don't, but I can film one next time I'm able to work on this bike. It's pretty straightforward, you'll need to remove the black part surrounding the gauge cluster (this will include the very top pair of screws holding the windshield in place). Then remove the bolts holding the mirrors in place, and then the bolts holding it to the main frame. It should lift right off, so you can unplug the wiring harness plug. Reinstallation is the same steps in reverse.

Drew not to be a bug or anything but the way you explained how to take the front fairing off was perfect and i got it right off! thanks for that. can you explain to me how to take the rear fairing off?

@@bikelifeleaf8889 Glad it worked out! I had it and the back end on and off about a dozen times over the course of this. The back is held on with a few different fasteners. Take the front and rear seats off. Remove the 2 bolts holding the grab handle. There should be 4 screws easily visible holding the bod panel on, remove them. There are a series of small plastic rivets around the lower perimeter of the body panels. To remove those, use a small screwdriver or a pick to push in on the center part, it will click in and the rivet will pull out easily. Remove all those. There's another plastic rivet and screw holding the 2 sides together just behind the front seat, remove those. Then the whole plastic assembly should bend enough to pull it off the rear sub frame. Make sure to look out for the wires attached to the tail light and turn signals.
