In this video I take you on a tour of my Svalbard cabin home! The cabin doesn't have any running water and is located outside of Longyearbyen. I have lived on Svalbard for 4.5 years and make videos about my life here, so subscribe to see more! :)

@davidmatthews4911
@davidmatthews4911 2 жыл бұрын
@@Godric_71 P & O are a cruise line that sail the world in ships that are floating hotels. We boarded our ship in Southampton & cruised across the North Sea to Norway & then made our way up the coast, calling in on many places on the way. Each day we woke up in a new port. Finally we reached Svalbard & awoke in a bay surrounded by glaciers. You never forget moments like that. After a couple of days it was time to return down the coast & go home to England. I hope this explains a little to you & may inspire you to one day try cruising & enjoy the sites, while eating & drinking & being entertained aboard the finest "hotel" you could imagine.

One thing about Cecilia is that her content isn’t boring. You watch it and you want more. The way she presents everything isn’t vain or an attempt to show off. There’s something very genuine about her style. She provides a lot of useful information and you really feel like you’re there with her. Even something as simple as showing her cabin was entertaining. She’s very down to earth and she’s funny too. I really enjoy watching her videos about Svalbard and her editing is really nice. She uses her resources quite well. But holy shit….if I did the conversion correctly, that cabin was $280k!!!?? That’s crazy expensive. But I suppose it’s not cheap to live in paradise. Please keep posting Cecilia. I know I’m not the only one that enjoys your content. Grim is cute! Say hello to Grim from us in California! I have two Great Danes. Probably too cold for them! Lol

Your channel is so underrated since you make great content! I have never heard about that island (feeling very ignorant now) but I am stoked to find out more! However, I do not get over the fact that it is only 7°C during the summer! I always put shade on the German weather but won't be complaining from now on. Very in awe of your minimalistic lifestyle. I can imagine the renunciation of different luxuries can be liberating but honestly running water would be a necessity for me. Very excited to see more of your life :) Thanks for sharing!

Astonishing! Mesmerizing! Never had any imagination how living there would be. It made me also realise how much we take water for granted in our lives here! Though its heaven there i wouldn't teade lives for the sake of water. Its very difficult for us to live the lives of people there having the kind of dependency on water here. Amazing video. Opened a new perspective 🙏

Thanks for sharing and giving us the cabin tour. The utility room you have is common here in the U.S. mainly in the country or small towns, especially where we get the four seasons (especially long Winters) where we know it as the 'mud room'. This usually includes a place to sit down, hang coats, remove boots, and any outerwear.

Wow. I drove twice to the North Cape, around 900km south of Svalbard. Even in early June there was still snow. We drove both times allong the fjords and Lofoten from North Cape back to Oslo, 3'000 km of fjords, emptyness and pure beauty. Driving through different seasons, since it was around 5 degrees in the North and over 20 degrees in the south of Norway. You could see the vegetation change every day. I can understand that you want to life in this magical place. Despite the long winters, despite never having a sommerday. The light, the fjords, the gletjers, its all amazing. Summer 2022 we go again to the North Cape. Wish you lot of success with enlarging your cabin and hoping after Corona times tourism is getting back on track (although I hope not to much, it would spoil the serenity of the area). Greetings from Switzerland.

I saw a random video on Svalbard's permafost, thought it was really interesting and I wanted to learn more about Longyearbyen, so I put it into the search bar and up popped your channel. Devouring the information now (thanks for recording and sharing!). I would definitely watch more videos about life in this town, and I second many people here in saying I'm interested in learning about the local economy, the people who live there, and seeing the sights (as well as tourism! I've been planning a trip to Norway and may just have to extend it to come see this beautiful place). Random question: Is it typical for cabins to be without running water/electricity etc, or is it because you're far outside the city center?

That's great! Thank you for watching! :):) I will make more videos about the village! 😊 All the cabins outside of the village lack running water. The ones close to the village, like our area which is only 10min by car; have electricity, and the ones far outside the village don't :)

I'd probably not want to live there but very, very interesting. It is a very cute cabin. While I absolutely loved visiting Troms in northern norway 2 times and love the midnight sun, I'll take a pass on the polar night! Greetings from San Francisco, California.

Living in Svalbard, ESPECIALLY in a lone cabin like yours in the midst of polar bears trains you to be pretty resourceful and live humbly. I'm rather minimalistic, and hearing how you manage waste and water would be positive accomplishments in my day. So far, Svalbard is ticking all my bells tbh

ahah, i've been living in a cabin in the alps since may (i'm italian) kinda escaping the pandemic panic there still is in the cities. So....i have kinda of a similar set up, becouse, we have a latrin but it is outside the house, we only have ston cold water (coming from the mountains) so it can be complicated but we manage to shower buy heating the water on the gas stove and filling the 10L pressur shower we have and than use electric heater in the latring to take a shower in that. I dug a hole in the floor connected to the WC so that the water will drain....but it is nice to have to figure out how to live without having the comfrot of a city. Becouse many times that comfort come with a cost

As an ex-sailor I'm familiar with the water/electra and shower issues. There was no shower on board, so I used the camping bag/showers and on the trans atlantic crossing we used a pump, just like yours!

Very nice to see Svalbard sunshiny and clear. Beautiful in its stark natural state. Didn’t realize the snow melted away for summer being so far north, and winds must get pretty stiff at times? Thought there was still an enclave of Russians on another part of island left from their coal mining operations? Reminds me a bit of Iceland with the vast empty reaches and little vegetation running to horizon. Yes, very nice to catch your tour. Love the cabin and all the little efficiencies that make life comfy. Is the top soil very thin with rocky underpayment? I’m guessing in winter you have access to snow for use as fresh water? Thank you for sharing life on Svalbard...so very interesting. Now it must be dark, but sun will return soon as daylight time is getting longer again. Cheers 🥂 thank you!
