Richter's playing has that unique combination of qualities: a visceral excitement coexisting with a penetrating musicality, and, at the same time, projecting the form of the piece as a whole.

The end of the 4th Ballade is phenomenal playing even by Richter standards. Fast, clean and incredibly moving. I wish we could have heard the Polish audience's response to such passionate, heartfelt playing.

Eine schöne Überraschung, dieser "frühe" Richter!. Wild eruptiv hat er doch alles Im Griff, im Zusammenhang, und die Lyrik des Komponisten ist dennoch darin eingebettet. Danke Ihnen, Yuriy Bokhonoff!

Nachklatsch: Schon hier zeigt sich der bipolarer Charakter von Richters Spiel, welchen er aber in magischer Eingebung zu einer einheitlichen Werkaussage verbindet.
