Nice build! I built a similar press brake about 10 years ago utilizing 3 twenty ton air/over jacks. Bottom die is a 4 way 4" square 50" long 4140 chrome moly beast, cost 1500.00 used but in nice shape. Bottom bed goes up and down 40" of travel to get the big stuff out. I bend 1/4 x 2' long plate in it often to build wood stoves.

Nice Brake!! I just built something very similar. I just bought a second jack (it will hold up to 3) and found it pumps about 40% faster! I ordered some flow control valves to put on each line hoping it will solve the problem. For your downstroke, I recommend using some limit switches and air solenoid valves for auto stop (stroke limit). Make a mechanism that allows you to roll past the limit switches for manual jog. My build is a little heavier but narrower (36") and tuned within about 0.003" on the downstroke. Although left and right sides are up to 0.080 off if the material isn't centered. With two jacks, finishing the bend by hand, I can stop the stroke on the thousandth. I'm hoping adding the second jack and limit switch tunes it in for both sides. I literally have digital calipers clamped and spring loaded on each side to measure the downstroke -- not stupid if it works 😂 Looking to continue the automation into full CNC with back gauge. If you'd like to know more about my build get ahold of me, it's not documented online but I'll share what I know. Also curious what your thoughts are on the SWAG kit after using it some time. I have opted for homemade dies so far but am set up for standard tooling.
@brodin66711 ай бұрын
having the same problem, how did u install the flow control valves?>
@nathandalemccann11 ай бұрын
@@brodin667 What I used was a "needle valve" (not technically a needle valve) on the airline of the faster cylinder. I adjusted it until both pumps were synced as close as possible. It will not be perfect, but it's a bandaid that will make it somewhat better. My current setup involves two distance sensors feeding back to an arduino that opens and closes solenoid valves as needed to stay in adjustment.

SICK, good work. How can you tell when one jack is getting out of sync though, losing power and needing oil? Come across any of that yet?
@marcustomz Жыл бұрын
@Aesopsnavel thanks for watching Marcustomz Garage. I've noticed one time the jacks wernt insync on a very wide bend. The right side was a 1/8 off different from left.. I corrected this by opening the center jack first, followed by slightly/barely opening the side that was lower to sync them. I then closed the two jacks and continued bending the metal. Thanks for your question. I hope to make a follow up video this Fall.

Great video. Very talented to get it all fitted and plumbed up to work in unison. Have you scratched the paint yet? A tool isn't a tool until you have your first "character mark" in it. How many man hours do you estimate? Would you change anything now that you've used it?
@marcustomz Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching mandeladams4793. Not a scratch on the surface yet ☺️. I honestly probably have more hours in designing, sourcing the materials and preparation than the actual build. The only thing I would change in the future if production and time calls for it. Would be to convert the Press Brake to full Hydraulic press for speed. I just love that the capabilities of this tool is more than capable to bend almost anything you put in it's way without needing 3 phase and taking up alot of space. Overall the build took me about 4 months to build on and off. Thanks again for watching Marcustomz Garage ✌🏾.

Thanks for watching Pete RW. I haven't had a issue yet with bends being uneven yet. Maybe because I'm bending light weight Aluminum. I haven't tried a full length of 3/16 or 1/4 steel yet, so I'm not sure if the jacks would have issues. I do hear some have issues on forums and groups. I could possibly make a video bending full 50" width materials and measure the consistency or inconsistencies. Thanks for fueling the idea.

Great questions @nicholaskenny3980 I'm am still happy with the purchase and build of this press brake. I'm learning tight compound radius bends.
