This is excellent. I had a general conception but this is most helpful. How can you reduce hardness?
@TATVCanada4 жыл бұрын
Using pure lead and annealing your cases is about all you can do really. Beyond that you'd probably need to look at an alternate material, but that would defeat the purpose of re-using the brass casings.

It looks like you're bleeding off lots of lead. What are the as cast weights?
@TATVCanada4 жыл бұрын
I can't recall off the top of my head, nor do I have any cores cast up right now. I typically err on the larger side though as I want to make sure it's 100% solid/consistent all the way through, and I can always use that discarded lead again later.

Another great installment in the Blackmon swaging series! I've had two core molds made, one that drops cores at around 52gr and the other at around 55gr, which should make it possible to make bullets up to around 65gr. How heavy bullets can you make before lead in starting to flow through the open tip of the jacket?

@TATVCanada Жыл бұрын
Some NATO rounds do, but for a DIYer you'd never have access to kind of equipment required to swage those. The dies would break under the pressure, and you'd need a hydraulic press on top of that. Also, steel is significantly lighter than lead so it would need to be a much larger core volumetrically.
