Germain Louvet is one of the finest princes I have ever seen. The epitomy of the excellence of French ballet tradition. He is sooo refined and chic. Simply gorgeous. Regarding Baulac she is sweet and cute but in the 90s she would have been only corps de ballet. With all the due respect of course. When she sees the first time the prince she does not show how frightened the swan is....she does not vibrate really, does she! What a pity because she seems to be a very bright girl. Unfortunately the outcome is quite average.

I’m reading a lot of negative comments here. First of all, the video and sound quality are not great that’s true. Second, this version is the 1984 one by Nureyev, for the Paris National Opera Ballet. It is well known for being a stripped down, darker, more psychological (look at the transitions between Act I and II, and even more between Act III and IV… Is the Swan Lake even real?) and less fairytale-like interpretation of what you’d see in Russia for instance. Also, the Paris Opera Ballet (the oldest in the world, and the one that originated most ballet terms and techniques) is known to dance in this very restrained, disciplined, delicate, not over the top or overly athletic style. It’s not a lesser way of doing things, it’s just different from what Russia does, especially the Bolchoi which is famous for being particularly theatrical.
@midturian2500
@midturian2500 8 күн бұрын
first of all, ballet is a theater, it's supposed to be theatrical. Secondly, Nureev was a great ballet dancer, but he was a mediocre choreographer. Thirdly, it was choreographed this way, because of the lack of high level dancers then and now in Paris. They are just not able to perform something more complicated in choreography.
@adrienla1666
@adrienla1666 8 күн бұрын
Yeah… I’m afraid you’re wrong all the way but you’re entitled to your opinion. Side note, theatrical doesn’t mean looking like you’re going to the Olympics like they do in Russia to serve some rancid post-Soviet propaganda. Sorry.

Which website would have the audacity to force the uploader to mute some the music in order to comply with copyright laws? Which copyright laws are these? Tchaikovsky has been dead for 200 hundred years. No laws apply after such a long period. It's insulting enough to have KZbin insert unwanted and distracting commercials throughout the ballet, that a viewer be subjected to such shoddy practices. Not only is it shameful but in bad taste. It is the Paris National Opera Ballet. Note that principal soloists roles are not always danced by Étoiles. It depends on the night and the circumstances. Yes it’s not the ultra classical Bourmeister version they perform in St Petersburg but the darker, more visceral and psychological Nureyev version.

It may have originally been danced by two different ballerinas, but I have seen many productions and it’s always been done by the same artist and is part of the magic in being able to take on a role where Odette / Odile have polar opposite characters. I cannot foresee any of the world’s major companies ever reverting and if they did it would almost be an admission of a loss in their ranking.
