Soba i really don’t like it when people call police pigs when i have family in law enforcement, though I do understand their sentiment, cuz it’s not just a few bad apples, sometimes it’s the whole department of a district or county. But if you think that someone calling a cop a pig is gonna get them on a watchlist then you are very naive.

I found these videos a few weeks ago and can't stop watching them. I think one reason they seem so unbiased is because it's been long enough (mostly) for nearly all the facts and information to come out about the subject . plus most of the emotional connection has subsided so people can look at it at different angles and have a discussion/debate much easier.

It’s not about military equipment, it’s about the mentality that every social problem must be solved with a Swat team or military force. It’s about the mentality that our country is divided between citizens and police in a permanent adversarial relationship. We can do better than this as a nation. The police need to return to the community mindset and the community needs to stop dumping its problems onto government.

One of my friends growing up had a dad in SWAT or "the cops the cops call when they need the cops." as he best explained it to 10yr old me. To him the job was about situations that were too intense for your average police response, like a hostage situation and he was proud of what he did, but not in a power trip kinda way. I only know about him being in SWAT because he brought in his armor for a physical "put on the full armor of God." part of our AWANA lesson. It's a shame that swat is used for the war on drugs 😕

With most special forces groups, isn't there usually an intelligence officer or team that tells you there's x amount of children and non combatants on the premises? Is there a reason there isn't coordination between local police and SWAT to make sure you're at the right place or your target(s) is actually there when you want to do a raid?

Its a little more complicated. SWAT is *expensive* and the situations that actually necessitate them, necessitate experience. So, not only is it difficult to justify a dozen man unit that costs as much as a full shift of patrolmen, sitting around doing nothing 364 days a year, but then when they're actually deployed, they're responding to a situation that can escalate into something completely different, in an instant; and thus they need realworld experience, to be effective. The right way to handle organization, is to have a small dedicated team, for high intensity entry and rescue operations and to have a large number of weapons and tactics qualified officers, who know the protocols and communications, distributed amongst the ranks. This way, there is a couple SWAT qualified officers available to immediately respond to any patrol contact, who can manage the situation until a team can assemble. Then, if it becomes a high risk scenario, like a barricaded suspect with hostages, there is a full on special ops team available, that does nothing year round, but train and operate together, for precisely this situation. Consider the value of two or three SWAT qualified patrolmen, as first responders to a shooting rampage, or armed robbery. Its a difficult problem and anyone rolling their eyes and ranting about 'pigs', just save that breath for prayers that someone you care about, never has to count on a common donut inspector to save them from a madman or bona fide Hard Corps criminal.

The home invasions I can understand the criticism. I have alot of respect for SWAT and they aren't to blame whatsoever. It's the policy makers who decides when they should be used. However the protests in Ferguson definitely necessitated the use of SWAT and extreme counter riot tactics. The logistical and economical damages during riots can be so extreme that it's Paramount to take any and all precautions. Wanna protest? Do it at a park not in the middle of a road.

Watching this in 2020 gives me more chills than it already did. The US is scary. There are swat teams a lot in some of my friends' neighborhoods.

That's because everyone in the us is armed to the teeth. In Canada, cops tried taking criminals with only pistols and they got massacred numerous times

As much as I love the police and swat teams, I do think they should go back to high speed, high risk situations.

SWAT teams and their equipment are ABSOLUTELY necessary. Now, the implementation is what needs to be carefully executed.

I don't think anyone wants to abolish SWAT altogether, just that their deployment should be far more limited.

A lot of these raids gone wrong are not at the fault of the assault members, but the intelligence officers who gave the mis-information to the team. Also, the parameters of SWAT teams need to be tightened in, they should be an elite unit for only the worst case scenarios, and not be given all the tools the military uses such as flash-bangs, and breaching charges for uniform house raids. Those utilities should be reserved for terrorist situations or when the threat is obvious and imminent such as a hostage situation.

Use Swat/Sert/SRT for what it was originally made for ( hostage rescue, active shooter, sniper, high risk warrants, etc that is outside the scope of what patrol officers can handle), and have them on stand by for search warrants there the suspect is not known to be armed.

When I was a child SWAT came to my house, and I'm very grateful for the care they took w us kids. They swooped in, and got us out in no time. My mom, and her boyfriend were exactly the kind of people SWAT needs to take care of. Scary af, though. Just my experience.

That's a good outcome from your "roll of the dice" with those swat officers. Some people are not nearly as LUCKY as you were. Or it could be that Swat teams have gotten much more bloodthirsty since their inception. If that's the case you got LUCKY it wasn't modern Swat teams..

It makes sense that they go to drug related cases because a large amount of homicides and gun violence has something to do with drugs. If you would like other info on the militarization of police go watch donut operators videos about it

Myself I believe that if law enforcement would use a actual SWAT team a well trained unit on there warrants and service calls, the officer involved shootings would go way down. Now I don't mean use SWAT to serve somebody a court paper, but a repeat offender or drug or weapon offender then yes, but I have seen some departments use SWAT for things that was just not necessary. SWAT does save lives both uniform deputies and civilians but they also can cause more harm than good if not used properly.

The Directive now and for almost two decades is that any First Responding LEO (no matter the Jurisdiction) dons their A.S.P.K. - Plate Carrier/Ballistic Helmet/Patrol Carbine and IFAK(with mostly Chest Seals, Tourniquets and. Zeolite Agents) and enters to neutralize the Active Shooter - fast as possible. Then, begin Triage within the best of our abilities; until SWAT, TEMS and, EMT-P's arrive. No waiting around. The Directives has changed again after recent incidents. I can not really get into them. I just suggest that if you have a CCW Firearm out to put it away - if you hear responding Units. I am ATEMS(SWAT Advanced Tactical Paramedics) myself. I have nearly 80lbs of Medical Gear in my Patrol Vehicle and/or on my Person during such situations. ATEMS, have the necessary training and ability to administer IV/IO Narcotic Analgesics/Paralytics/Anesthetics; Preform Surgical Interventions and begin Tracheotomies/Intercostal Drains - when in the Field or during Patient Transports. The closest that I can think to compare ATEMS Training to would to be SF/SOF Medical Specialists(PJ/18D/SARC). TEMS training would be our Corpsmen/Combat Medics. Yes, TEMS and ATEMS training and ability still falls way short of what Armed Forces Medics receive in training and actual skill.

I can’t believe y’all are praising New York Times for saying police shouldn’t get to use the same weapons that their opposition gets to use... everyone makes mistakes and that means swat does too, they are needed to keep this nation on its feet... you know most drug lords who are killed in America by shoot outs are by swat right? You know most drug lords taken to jail are by swat right? Why let a handful of mistakes count for all the good they do?
