Gangs, riots, cops, mass shootings, cops getting shot at, and the scary guy on the street sexually harassing your girlfriend after trying to panhandle money out of you last week. Taking a stand against police having swat gear doesn't fit into a decent respectable liberal agenda. People have a problem with weed being illegal, and it causes too many people to be on the wrong side of the law,....but the law is there and what it is for a lot of good reasons.

Cyber security? Number spoofing is like VPN. Once the crime has been done, the investigation starts. First they need to identify the company who is providing the anonymity, then get court papers to legally extract information about this criminal from the company (because you cant just ask them), and only then you can actually start making moves towards this person, but often that is just the first layer because of fake identities and proxies.

GoodwillWright I guess so.
@ingebrecht9 жыл бұрын
GoodwillWright Now let's think about the crime a bit,,, It does demonstrate and provide a platform for presenting a "Fear the big bad policeman" message. Not unlike Terrorism. Could an additional telephone line be used to verify the source of the call? Of course! A computerized dialer could handle it in .6 seconds. A busy signal would indicate a call from the same source as the caller I.D. A ring tone would indicate a potentially bogus call. A simple PLL circuit could tell the difference and provide this information in about a second. The telephone company used to publish a document known as a Cross Bar manual. A few pages in and you would realize that the police can actually listen in on any phone at any time since the early 70's. The telephone companies ANI billing computer is not connected to the caller I.D. system and retains the real source and destination of all calls even after they are over. This swatting crime happens only because people someone somewhere wants the general public to remain ignorant of these capabilities. Also the police might need a valid excuse for a warrant-less search and then say oops not my fault. Is real swatting a myth? Maybe.... And maybe a crime is allowed to be committed because they want to set a trap. The swatter would need to know the victims address, phone number and none of those previously mention checks would be utilized. Celebrities do get stalked. The question is by whom.

Government power consolidation for dummies: 1) Introduce potential threat, or make a mountain out of a molehill. 2) Hype it up so that the public takes it seriously. 3) Use that to justify increasing government intervention, so that they have a large number of superequipped mercenaries who will follow orders in the name of domestic security. I see that Murdoch has made what we can call a smart investment.
@HarryHollertheWolf10 жыл бұрын
+Danny Kay I agree with your assessment. However, it is Homeland Security funding the militarization of local police departments. Homeland Security is a part of the executive branch. This is Obama's police state.

Jon Forbes I am not an AJ follower/listener, and I think that most of what he says is way off, but obviously some of his 'news' are based on facts. Besides, you really don't have to believe global eugenics and "the elites and their progeny going to the stars" to see why increasing militarization coupled with federal laws that give governments more control over people is a dangerous thing. Harry Holler Do you think Obama is at the root of the issue? Is he the final shot caller in this? I am aware that increasing militarization of the police are largely government initiatives, but who does the government really serve? All those purchases, and the ability to utilize all that equipment along with the people who are to use it to carry out their mission, work for the enrichment of a small minority, from both the government and the private sector. Not two mention that those two have been historically interlinked for thousands of years.
@RiotHouseLP10 жыл бұрын
Plus after 15 years of war, we have some pretty beefed up military surplus that will be available coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan. We don't need it on the streets or in the hands of the police or other enforcing agencies.
@Atomik9140010 жыл бұрын
I also love it how VICE doesn't seem to be willing to have a rigorous discussion about whether we need militarization for the protection of civilians to such a scale, and what would be the incidents where such weaponry would be appropriate. Instead, they seem to be presenting the entire documentary in the following manner: "Well, we have an increasing number of equipment in local county police forces that they sometimes use during small operations. But now SWATTING is the new threat, so in addition to all the equipment and weaponry, the police must now be ready to counter those malicious trouble-makers on the web. This way, every citizen feels secure, JUST IN CASE it may be used for something more than just pranking the fuck out of people, because they know in advance how ridiculously armed to the teeth the police is becoming." Typical mainstream media fear-mongering and capitalizing on small issues.

Because Rural Cops like their nifty toys. They can raid houses that might be smoking pot (even if the cops do it or worse too) and face no consequences for shooting the family dog or throwing a flashgrenade in an infant crib, and do not have to pay for or replace a new dooror damages : EVEN WHEN THEY DON"T FIND ANYTHING. It is a good way to chase people out they don't like. Sad but common to have rural terrorism when they first get their new gear.

That means this sort of violent, paramilitary raid is happening in about 124 homes every day - or more likely every night - not in an overseas combat zone, but here in American neighborhoods. The police, who are supposed to serve and protect communities, are instead waging war on the people who live in them." It is not o.k for the govt to enter your home, dressed in black, pointing a'k 47s at you: and when they don't find anything, they don't get in trouble, if they shoot your dog, (which is standard, they are taught to do this) or flashbang your baby, or your grandpa, and later find they got the wrong house, or their informant lied, they don't get in trouble. None. They don't even have to pay to fix the door they broke. It is not right, but at this point it is not illegal either. It is legal This will happen 124 times today. Shoot first, ask later.

@Muykle7 жыл бұрын
Sure. Kids should stop swatting. That is a great idea. However let's look at heirarcies and how easy it is to control people that exist in hierarchies vs kids with bad ideas. If you hold the institutions accountable those on the top can be held accountable for those on the bottom and have greater control over abuse of power. This method is more effective than asking all individuals that are already breaking the law to obey the law. What kind of effective call to action is to just ask people individually stop bad behavior? You will always have assholes that break societal norms. How the enforcers of the rules of society deal with those assholes determines the strength of the society. If these enforcers are killing innocents, but seldom held accountable, it makes the society understand that these enforcers are enforcing crime, not law.

But we also need to drill it into our youth that this is not ok. I mean it takes up valuable time and money and like said is dangerous because apparently according to some of the other ppl in comments someone already has been accidentally shot in a fake raid.So its only a matter of time before someone dies from this stupid so called "Prank" so we obviously need to work on a solution to this.

Swatting needs to be a Federal Felony it's not a prank. Cops that shoot unarmed people need to go to prison. PERIOD

Is it better to shoot someone center mass and risk getting shot or headshot someone?

What do cops need with armored vehicles? What wouldnt warrant the use of such heavy machinery? How does this not seem like martial law?
@alexbroGellungaRunga9 жыл бұрын
But raiding peoples houses isn't countering any terrorism. The term terrorism especially when referring to domestic terrorism, seems really ambiguous in defining what it is. The FBI had a list of characteristics in citizens that they claim to be cause to suspect someone of being a terrorist, the first of that list was "being young" until recently. I don't see the need for arming cops with military grade equipment when there's no terrorism to respond to unless the government for some reason believes that they will soon.

+alex bro Simple. Would you rather have the cops have this gear our not in a situation could go wrong. For example, imagine if there was a shootout and of course the swat would be the first responders. The enemies could end up flanking and attacking the vehicle and if it wasn't something like this the whole crew could be dead. I would much rather have cops with this stuff then without.

+alex bro You joking? Martial law is not fucking using heavy machinery...
@catshumpcats39 жыл бұрын
+alex bro Ok, but wait until you are in a lot of trouble. Lets say hypothetically a murder is in your house holding you and your family hostage... Do you not want the swat to not raid your house and stop this person? You'd rather that person get away with murdering you and the ones you love just because you don't think it's right for them to raid houses? Do you realize how serious these calls are? You just expect them not to do anything serious about it because of your damn politically correct attitude? And it is counter terrorism... 1. the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes. 2. the state of fear and submission produced by terrorism or terrorization. Saying you're going to blow up your house and kill everyone in it unless you get 30k dollars and a helicopter ride to mexico... That's fucking terrorism, man.

+alex bro When it comes to tactical stuff. It's never about what you need. It's about what you want.
