You keep calling Syril Karn an imperial Officer, but he isn't. He is part of the Pre-Mor Security Team that belongs to Preox-Morlana, a corporate conglomerate, that is affiliated but independent from the Empire. So, they are more like private security. And like the Chief Inspector in the first episode said, the less the Empire thinks about them, the better.

Bix doesn't talk to Timm because she's doing illegal stuff and she doesn't want to bring him into it. So, she would have to either eventually trust him with that side of her life or dump him. Sounds like, from Cassian, that their relationship (Bix & Timm) is fairly new so she definitely couldn't be completely honest with him yet.

I think that the mentioned imperial mining disaster has happened after the time that the flashbacks show because these flashbacks clearly take place before the empire even existed. The uniforms of the crew of the crashed ship had the logo of the Separatists on them. So, this must take place during the clone wars. Therefore, this is most likely not the reason that we only see young native people in the flashback.

"during the clone wars" Before, actually. Cassian Andor was born a bit more than a decade before the Clone Wars took place. The Separatist crew were referred to as being "Republic", so it likely happened before the full split/civil war. My guess would be it happened during an early skirmish, judging by how fast the other "Republic" ship (in quotes because we don't know if it was loyalist or separatist) arrived, either to finish it off or assist it. And it would line up with his age depicted in the flashbacks.

I think the reason that Timm is sleepless and staring at Bix is that he realised, as soon as she turned up on that booty call, that he made a terrible mistake. He’s already overcome with guilt and the knowledge that he is going to lose her. Of course, it ends up far worse for him than that.
