@tvetovnato3997, it is true, that when Sweden is meeting Finland in the ice hockey, there is an extra tension. This match was no exception. Sweden was so tough and skillfull, that it will give an extra aura for this Finnish OT win. Both penalties during the OT were correctly judged, and Finland was probably very close to get an another one, too.

It's so nerve-racking to watch but fun. Sadly one has to loose. Sweden was really good in the 3 period. I think we won because of slightly better goalie. Good luck in the bronze game which I think you hopefully win.

Sadly it ended with a disgraceful referee scandal and as a swede I am absolutely livid, but even as just a hockey entusiast I am extremely saddened, because with all the near misses (like the swedish goalkeeper deflecting the puck with the thin handle part of his stick) in this game it would have become an absolute classic no matter who won, but this referee debacle will forever taint this match now. If I could go back in time and give the finns the victory in a proper manner, I would have done it, but this is an absolute travesty and the least finns can do now is to be humble about the way they won this game.

Amazing game. From the third period on it was intense as hell. Rimpinen stood on his head to pull the Finns into OT and in the OT the Finns hung on until they got their opportunity. The refs had a couple of iffy calls, some for the Finns, some for the Swedes. A couple of missed calls a, couple of pretty soft penalties but i think it basically evened out. IIHF refs are always pretty bad, so I'm just glad that the refs didn't steal the spotlight from the game itself. The last half an hour or so was just great young players absolutely playing their hearts out. Exciting as all hell. I imagine there's going to be some complaining about the final penalty against Sweden but I dunno. There's only so many times you can use your hand to grab and push over players like that. Personally I prefer it when refs even during OT still whistle penalties. Especially things like holding, hooking and interference. Keeps the game more about speed and skill. Nonetheless Sweden played an absolutely amazing game. Especially in the third period. Finland just managed to do what was needed to grab the win from the jaws of defeat. Amazingly entertaining and intense game. And a pretty clean game which is always nice. Intense but pretty clean. Loved seeing it.

I think the most important thing about the last call is that it affected possession in a very obvious manner, that does tend to matter in the borderline stuff
@Kriostyx
@Kriostyx 16 күн бұрын
 @TheMysteriouswatcher I can really symphatize with the feeling of seeing your team lose after an OT penalty that "feels soft", especially in the moment, for lack of a better word. Even more so because in IIHF games often times in OT and in the late 3rd period things like hooking, interference and holding tend to not be whistled. Especially during the 90s, 2000s and 2010s. "Let them play" and all that. But that is no longer always the case. For better or for worse. As I said, I prefer that the hooking/grappling kind of hockey gets whistled so skill gets more room and opportunity to shine. What I mean with "the refs didn't steal the spotlight" is that in IIHF games it is distressingly common that the referees give major 5+20 penalties that are straight up blown calls. Sometimes more than once per game. Sometimes from clean hits, sometimes there's a weak argument for MAYBE a 2min penalty. There's been an embarrassing amount of that over the years. Another example would be constantly whistling hallucination offsides in promising offensive plays, killing the play dead for no reason. I remember Switzerland suffering from those in a few games years ago. If there's an argument to be made that Team A got 1 more 2min powerplay than they should compared to Team B, in an otherwise evenly matched game, that's not the refs stealing the spotlight. In this game there was a combination of at least one missed high stick, compensated later by a possibly mistaken high stick. A Swedish player dropped a Finnish player from behind around 1-2 minutes before "that" penalty during the OT in a pretty edgecase way as well with no call. Not saying it was aggregious or anything, but during 3 on 3 overtime one can't keep allowing gray area grabs and "wrap arms around and make them fall over" type moves since the advantage for that infraction is so big. When you keep doing that, you are increasing the risk of going into the penalty box. And that OT penalty. The swedish player wrapped his right arm somewhat around the Finnish player, impeding him and pushed him aside with that. It was not a body check or any kind of a tackle. He was late to the play and used his arm to grab and push away the Finnish player sideways from the puck, while being a step behind. That's not backchecking, that is using his hand to grab and push the player away to the side. In a vacuum is that play always a penalty? Especially in the iffy IIHF? Honestly, who knows with how inconsistent IIHF refs are. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It's a big call to whistle it on OT, but imagine this : if that exact move is made by a Finnish player to a Swedish player and that immediately leads to a breakaway goal by the Finnish player, are you sure you would accept it as a clean play? With love and respect, I doubt that. And that's human. Doesn't make you knowingly dishonest in any way, that's often how we as people are wired. IIHF rulebook : "Any action by a Player that restrains or impedes the progress of an opposing Player whether or not they are in possession of the puck. A Minor Penalty shall be imposed on a Player who holds an opponent by using their hands, arms or legs. A Player is permitted to use their arm in a strength move, by blocking their opponent, provided they have “body position” and are not using their hands in a holding manner, when doing so." "“Body position” shall be determined as the Player skating in front of or beside their opponent, traveling in the same direction. A Player who is behind an opponent, who does not have the puck, may not use their stick, body, or free hand in order to restrain their opponent, but must skate in order to gain or reestablish their “proper position” in order to make a check" The Swedish player did not skate first to reach the Finn and touch after. He touched and impeded first, Only then reaching to the side of the Finnish player. Therefore the Swedish player did NOT have "body position" to do what he did with his free hand. The penalty had a big impact on how the OT was played, but that's different from "controversial". The fact remains that the Swedish player was late to the play by being behind the Finnish player and wrapped his arm a bit around the Finnish player and and one-handedly wrestled him sideways away from the puck. He didn't have body position on the play, instead he impeded the Finnish player's progress with the puck by taking away his speed from behind and pushing him sideways. That is holding. It's an unorthodox way of doing it but the definition fits. It just looks weirder than what we usually consider "holding" as fans who see typical cases of holding every day. Should the rule be something different then to allow that specifically? That's a different conversation. It's a tough call to make in the moment, but I respect the refs choice to whistle a move that is forbidden in the rulebook and resembles more wrestling than hockey. Especially in OT where gaining and losing possession very often leads to the goal that ends the overtime. The Swedish player had options to him that did not involve breaking the rules. That's on him. With that said, again, I symphatize a lot with the annoyance and vitriol of seeing your team lose and getting a penalty that somehow "feels wrong" even if one can't quite put their finger on why it feels like that. But the rulebook says that's a penalty. As weird as it may look. The Swedes played an excellent game I wish the Finns and Swedes could've met in the gold medal game instead.

@@Aikisbest It was a total joke of an ending to a game. The swede penalty wasn't even a penalty. They did the same to Canada with the phantom call at the end for a bodycheck. Tight game, great game, and the refs call a marginal penalty. They are a joke.

The better team had a lousy PK, a middling goalie, and couldn't make more than one really good goal - the other ones being a fluke and a goalie error. And you think they should have won? Earlier I actually was disappoined that we wouldn't meet you in the final, but now I am just happy about it.

Should have been Sweden. So disapointed with the refs. How the hell can you make a call like that in OT? Our boys gave it everything in the third period an OT but Finlands goalie was incredible. Swedens goalie was not.

I totally agree, and was cheering for the Finns, but the refs are a total disgrace. Calling penalties with 2 minutes left like that in a 3-3 tie for a slight stick that gets up, give me a break. And the penalty in OT against Sweden wasn't even a penalty. Where do they get these refs? IIHF should be EMBARASSED. Refs in this tournament has been a disgrace. It makes a complete joke out of the game.

So 2 minutes shouldnt be 2 minutes because the foul was made in the last 2 minutes of the OT? They didnt call a penalty like 30 seconds earlier on OT that would have been 100% penalty if happened on the first period.

It's usually not this stupid or bad, it just seems refs wanted to ruin games this year. 3-3 tie, let's call a marginal call. So stupid. A clear penalty? Okay, but the calls in this game and Can/Cze toward the end were all marginal. You don't do that in a 3-3 exciting hockey game. No NHL ref would do that in a game 7.
