Swedish With Axel

Күн бұрын

This is lesson 1 in a still-to-be-finished series of beginner-level Swedish lessons. The aim for the finished course is to provide everything you need to understand the structure and grammar of Swedish. From there on you should be able to start studying real Swedish material and already understand the structure and grammar, so that you instead can focus on what's more important - the content.
These lessons are entirely free in every way. They are made solely for the benefit of students of Swedish. You may use, copy, spread, download or upload them in any way you want.
Please forgive me for my accent that appears at times. It's not always easy to switch between two languages with entirely different phonetics ten times a minute.
There are probably several copyright abuses in these videos, namely pictures that have been taken straight off the internet. If you see a picture you own and want it gone, please contact me. However, I do encourage you to realize that it's being used for a good reason. And seriously, if you don't want it to be copied, don't post it on the internet.
Created within the European Commission's Youth in Action project "Bring European Awareness to Ukraine".

My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!

There are a few quite useful "rules" that make it easy to guess which gender a noun belongs to. One of the most reliable ones is that if a word ends with "-a" then it almost always uses the countword "en" - for example "en stuga" (a cabin), "en lampa" (a lamp) and "en flaska" (a bottle). In fact, the only exceptions I can think of right now are "ett öga" (an eye), "ett öra" (an ear) and "ett hjärta" (a heart), which interestingly are all body parts. Another rule that seems to always work out is that if a noun looks the same both in the singular and plural form, then it uses "ett" - for example "ett hus, många hus" (a house, many houses), "ett glas, flera glas" (a glass, several glasses) and "ett lejon, två lejon" (a lion, two lions). Also, most animate objects, like humans and animals, typically use "en" - there are a few exceptions here as well though, like "ett barn" and "ett lejon".

WOW! Out of all the Swedish videos I've watched this week... I have learned the most from this one! For instance, I have been unable to recognize all but one or two words while listening to Swedes speak - and you just told me why in this video (certain letters are dropped in conversation)!! The pronunciations are the most difficult and hard for me to hear, although you have helped very much with å ä and ö. Although, there are other letters in the Swedish alphabet that I find hard to differentiate... they sound alike to me... like E and I. Looking forward to watching the other videos!

Thanks for doing these videos! I'm using duo lingo to learn, but I like having the way languages worked explained to me, rather than having to infer them from context in the app. I'm learning Swedish since one of my favorite bands (Machinae Supremacy) is from Sweden, and I think it'd be cool to know some of the language in case I ever get to meet them.

Tack så mycket for the straightforward (and simplified) explanation of en and ett! I'm new to learning Swedish (two months), but I've yet to see anything that so clearly simplifies explains the articles of 'a' vs. 'the'. So, going from en bil to bilen, ett hus to huset, en kvinna to kvinnan... and let me guess, ett bi becomes biet? I see that you haven't uploaded in awhile. It'd be nice to have one on plurals.

You are right on all, im swedish. Some words are weird tho. Like full up sound like drunk in swedish cuz full means drunk or full. But full up is mätt. The number six is literally sex in swedish. And the Word sex is sex in swedish also so the Word six in swedish can mean WAY diff things.

Haha, I am from Sweden and I know a lot of hot Swedish girls at my university. I had one of them as my laboration partner during a course in electrical engineering two years ago, and she was super-hot - cute face, large innocent eyes, beautiful hair, prominent breasts and a good figure in general. And I am typically considered handsome as well, so there was quite a lot of sexual tension between us, with awkward glances from both of us and some blushing etc.

The words "a" and "an" aren't and . When reading them as words, there pronounced phonetically. Only when spoken colloquially, they're "reduced" and are such pronounced and respectively. And by the way, is this the first time I've ever heard an American accent actually get to the point on certain topics? Americans seem to get so tied up on small aspects, their explanation becomes a poorly organised essay... Yes, "organiSed" not "organiZed."
