Stihl/Husqvarna, Husqvarna/Stihl, I've used both, liked the 576XP, preferred the MS200 over the T540 in a climbing saw both make good saws, both make not so good saws. At the pro grade there isn't much difference in the real world, how well you sharpen the chain makes the biggest difference.

I concur. The Stihl sharpening jig is awesome, and my smaller saws are Stihl, but, being left-handed, the Husqvarna felt really good. After both systems have been in use for a while, from my reading, and talking to users, the AutoTune seems to be working out better than the M-tronic, which is a factor worth considering.

I bought a swedish husq 562xp, it is only 5 cc more than my Husq Rancher 455, I believe it weighs same or a tad less than my 455, but it outputs 4.7 horsepower vs 3.5 horsepower on my 455 which is amazing power output difference! It also has a computer processor that regulates and optimizes air/gas mixture based on temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure! It is an amazing chainsaw. To everyone on the fence, I recommend buying two powerful chainsaws if you do a lot of cutting, because that way you can cut twice as much before having to sharpen or swapping chains!

Have the xp562. Had it for 6 months now. Great saw. The handles are a bit offset which I am not sure if I like yet. The Johnsered has and the sthil have handles that are similar which are in a slightly different angle. I also have 261 Sthil. It handles good and works good but there are some stupid things like the oil and gas cap. It is a two stag thing which I find myself fighting with. Also it oil cap gathers debris which is impossible to clean around and when you open the cap dirt falls into the chain oiler reservoir. Other than that it's a great saw as well.

By shortening the distance between the handlebar and pistol grip Husky has balanced this saw for short bars. Sad day for us west coast fallers. One reason I preferred the handling of most previous Husky's over Stihls , the handlebar was forward enough to make the saw balance with a useful bar length. For a 70+ 72cc saw that would be a 30" or 32" bar.

I make 100% of my living from running a chain saw (and skidder) have been for almost 40 years,there are only 2 saws as far as i'm concerned Stihl and husqvarna,i personally prefer the husqvarna because of the handling,i find the stihl a bit cumbersome...I have used both in the past. @@reevesstevens5554 i agree, basically in all products, nothing is built to last anymore. There was only one disadvantage in older models, which i doubt many people encountered, in palm trees there is a substance that corrodes the aluminum. Today i dared complain about a major safety hazard in an echo, which i was very happy with until today. The metal band which stops the saw in the event of kickback and the like was broken. If I do buy another chainsaw it will probably be a Husqvana since the Stihl I purchased turned out to be a dud for me. The MS-250 didn't want to start for me and after about 5 times in the shop I am ready to use it for target practice with my guns. I have an old Poulan saw which worked great for years, and the newer Poulan Pro turned out to be just as bad and had to be worked on before I could use it so the only brand I have not purchased is the Husqvarna. I purchased a Poulan Pro battery saw to trim limbs and brush with and it is the only saw which does what it is advertised.

Husqvarna 372xp or a 365xt or the Jonsered equals the 2166 of 2172 or a Stihl MS440 think the new model is MS441 or a Makita/Dolmar. I have a DCS6421 its a 64cc saw but its pretty damn strong they have the 7900 79cc saw too. I own a few of these the 440, 365, 2166, and 6421. I have an old Stihl 017 and its been a great saw. Only had it a couple years bought it at an estate auction. I think I paid $45 for it but I had to put new fuel lines and all in it but with that 14 inch bar its so light. I use it quite a bit when I don't need a bigger saw but I just bought a new Redmax that will probably be getting some use when I want a light saw. Cant remember the model but its the same as the Husqvarna 439 or a rear handle version of the 435t top handle saw. I have yet to use the thing though because it came with a broken oiler adjustment screw so waiting on a new oiler to come in that should have been under warranty on a brand new damn saw but the dealer gave me a hard time I just bought an oiler. I bought it on Ebay from a Redmax dealer and it would have cost as much to ship back as the part cost. I could have tried another dealer though just there isn't many around Stihl is everywhere though. I also have an Echo 330t I just bought that will probably get some use or just sell it don't really need a top handle saw but it is nice especially since I got it so cheap. My local small engine shop I go to guy dropped it off 2 years ago and never came back to pay so I paid his bill and left with the saw. The MS170 though is $159 on sale all the time. Just a homeowner saw but that is a lot more saw then the Ryobi and other junk you see at big box stores. I don't care for the homeowner Husqvarna saws either if buying a homeowner grade saw I would buy Stihl, Echo, or Makita/Dolmar. I know the Dolmar 510 thin the model is, is more a homeowner saw but it has an aluminum case pretty nice they have a pro version with a magnesium case as well. I have just one saw from them the Makita DCS6421 awesome saw. Little heavy for a 64cc saw but its the same saw as the 7900 which is a 79cc saw only difference is the top end and I guess they have a different air filter and cover I believe but I could put the 79cc top end on the saw and have the same size and weight saw but at 64cc its pretty damn strong as is with that 79cc top end it would really be impressive.

I work in the southeastern US in the delta. I don't know if that matters, but we definitely get more longevity out of our Stihl's I prefer Husky's fluid caps, but it ends there. My biggest problem with the Husky's is they are so finicky. You don't just crank a Husky. You have to bulb, and prime and crank and crank and crank. I usually end up throwing them down and grabbing a Stihl. When the Husky's do run, they cut and sound great. Of all the saws I've used, the Stihl 462 is the unquestioned 🐐. Haven't gotten to use the 500i yet. Seems Husky's are more popular up north and northwest. Is there a reason for that?

I find it strange, that it seems, America fallers use bars long enough to make felling cuts in one pass, but anytime there is a faller working in another country, they use very small bars, and make a big to-do with all kinds of cuts on small dbh trees just to get them down cleanly. I find it interesting, how different and more straight forward American's go about falling.....but then again, maybe it's because our timber is bigger?
@brianjensen52006 жыл бұрын
Chad Harzbarger it's more likely because it's softer. Compare the saws on US vs Australian husky site for instance. I've got a 346XP, it was available in the US with bars up to 20, 18 was standard. In Australia the standard bar was 14, and it was available for order up to 16. I got mine from the US with a 20 bar, and it struggles in Australian wood (of which almost all of it is hardwood ranging from stubborn to impossible) next I'll be getting a 572XP with a 24 bar, that's the absolute maximum available in Australia for this saw, so much that's it a special order item. It comes standard with a 20 bar on it.

Old growth fallers on the west coast have always had to deal with challenges not found in many other places on earth. Due to the high value of most old growth we had to hit our lays and save out the tree. Long bars make for more accurate and easier falling, limbing and bucking. 90+% of the limbing and , depending on the faller, much of the bucking to log lengths are done , standing on or walking on the felled tree. Not a place for short bars.

@@brianjensen5200, harder than black locust and Osage orange?
@brianjensen52006 жыл бұрын
@@randymagnum143 Hi Randy. You asked an interesting question. I've had to research it a little. The closest data I've been able to find is the Janka toughness rating. I think that would also give some information as to how difficult wood would be to cut. Your two suggestions Osage orange and black locust has a rating of 9.1 and 7.6 kN, where as Australian Iron bark for instance averages at 14 kN. Even stringy bark, which is wood normally only used for firewood sits at 8.1 kN. So according to this, your two types are just sitting at the lower end of the scale for us down under!

@@brianjensen5200, Osage makes excellent bows, and if you cut in low light, throws sparks. Very neat, I've never seen that scale. We also have ironwood and boxwood, but I'd argue they are just scrub brush, and not a tree.

more weight as well. Why carry around more than you need?

John McNerney . True.

Some of us are no longer up to hauling more weight than we absolutely have to. I've always been a fan of running smaller, lighter saws (which is also why I tend to buy pro saws, when I could probably get by with a mid-range saw given my usage level). In recent years, it's become more of an issue for me. I don't do this professionally, and bouncing back from "weekend warrior syndrome" takes longer now than it once did. 357XP is my go-to saw these days. Most of my saws also wear a 16" bar. I have longer if I need them, but the vast majority of what I cut only needs a 16" bar. Longer just gets in the way a lot of the time.

Great video and apparently a great saw. However I personally don't like the *top cap clips* Husqvarna has developed for their new lines. I used one of the new 445 e-series recently and it didn't take more than a couple of days before one of the clips just snapped and broke in the cold (-22C). I rather prefer the old bolts, though the best design is only 1 flat head bolt fastening both the cap and the filter, like on my old old Partner 5000: simple, sturdy and fast.

Intersting. I should ask my brother about his experience with that. Thanks for sharing.

I have those clips on a 357XP I bought used and have had no problems with them. I'll admit, the coldest I regularly have used that saw is -15C, and that is not very often if I can avoid it.
