At 5:16. The Struts on these are cartridges from what I remember. The actual shock absorber is inside the strut held by a pin at the base. If you knock out the pin the strut cartridge comes out saving quite a bit of money.
Yep, the Bilstein strut cartridges are replaceable and not $2k. Why you go to an aircooled specialist garage.

You beat me to it! $2k my ass. The inserts come out and can be individually replaced. It always frustrates me when people complain that these cars are "so expensive to maintain". @16v153 жыл бұрын
It was generally a '911 Turbo'. The 930 moniker was an internal designation that they used on they first wave they sold back in the day. They dropped it (930) when they came back in 1986. For the minutiae, consult Bruce Anderson's tome...

Yeah, it's like saying "what you find on this sweet S197, you won't find on a Mustang". A 930 is a second-gen 911, made from 1975 to 1989. Preceded by the 911 body code, succeeded by the 964. That being said, they continued to build the 911 body code the whole time the 930 was in production.

The 930 S is similar but with the factory slant nose kit (which I did not order). From the factory U.S. brochure: "The 930 S the slant nose Porsche street version of the 935 race car". Remember back then aftermarket body shops were making big $$ doing these slant nose conversions and eventually the factory decided to get in the action and offered a 930 S.

Yes, in it's day, it was fast.0 to 60 in a little over 4 seconds. Today, it's just considered quick. Unfortunately, it's also incredibly FRAGILE. Must be driven very gently because it's engineering is god awful. Those OIL COOLED (6 GALLONS of OIL with a thermostat and radiator) Isn't air cooled. I have absolutely no respect for this piece of shit. Owned two. NEVER AGAIN

@@MrPaige222 Sorry to read you were not happy with it. Here in Europe i had a chance to drive one ‘86 turbo WLS which was the early S with Ruf tuning and it was a blast. I know it’s hard to drive it but it’s always up to the driver. I have lived in the US and i was terrified when i saw how people are driving overthere. I never felt safe myself on the roads. All thoes strong and fast cars with terrible drivers. No wonder why so many people ended up badly with it. So it’s much easier to blaming the car then admitting our faults. Once you get a proper drivers training you are going to enjoy it.

@@NZotyoka81 You completely misunderstood what I said. Yes, they're a blast to drive fast, but they're incredibly fragile. Whereas a Toyota supra or acura nsx can be driven aggressively for 200,000 miles, a Porsche, Mercedes,or bmw is going to require it's owner to empty his or her wallet to keep it running to 100,000 And then be prepared to rebuild something expensive like the engine. Nice to look at, fun to drive, but horribly rotten engineering. Got it now?

Fixed right the first time at Wizards. Ever bring your car into a shop for something and find after you drive away there are other problems you didn’t know about? Almost like they were induced at that garage? Cheaper garages are more expensive

In Hoovie's latest video, he dropped a car off to the Wizard for service and two cars that were ready for him to drive home. He started out in the Cadillac with it's newly fixed A/C system. The refrigerant appeared to have leaked out and he had to turn around and take the car back. He then left in car number two in which the blower fan was broken. Hoovie seems to return more than a few cars to the Wizard that were 'fixed'. I like the Wizard and his crew well enough, but am not sure about the longevity of the repairs they perform, at least as far as Hoovie's fleet is concerned. In any case, the Wizard's shop is doing a booming business.

I always enjoy these videos. And can somewhat relate. Discussion of costs and alternatives to the costs are great. But like my wife says about me. “I agree with everything you said. You’re 100% correct. It’s just the delivery that’s kinda fucked up.” Dropping straight facts while not coming across as a dick is something I continue to work on. Much like almost every exotic car? It’s never 100% fixed 🤣🤣🤣🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

looks like someone was going for the gemballa look a bit in the mid80's those terrible side skirts and front air dam are not stock 930 turbo (edit) or maybe they were part way to a 930 flatnose look and didn't go all the way.

Ordered mine on October 14, 1986 and was delivered a couple of months later. Purchased from the dealer in Fairfield, CT: Grand Prix white with burgundy leather sport seats, sunroof, limited slip and a sunroof. Looking at my purchase order now and see that was $61,468 plus tax/license reg fees. Quite a bit of $$ 35 years ago (!). People have no idea how small these 911 Turbos are compared to the bloated recent 911 variations. Placed side by side a stock air-cooled Turbo looks small and the non-Turbo narrow bodies look absolutely tiny. I guess the 911 had moved considerably up stream not only in power but also size. A Cayman GTS 4.0 might be the smart move now ;-)

1. The 930 was the second car ever built that "Wants to kill you". It does. The turbo is huge, the boost is big, it comes on unexpectedly, and this combined with the trailing throttle oversteer from the rear engine design has killed a bunch of people. The "rear engine doctor killer". I drive a '14 981 Cayman S which is faster and far safer than this car, but I can understand why people want a...."pet cobra", which this basically is. 2. To answer your question, the first car built that wanted to kill you was the Shelby 427 Cobra. The third was the original Dodge Viper. Number four is probably the most effective tool to earn you a casket: Porsche 980 Carrera GT. 3. Ah yes, the stupid 912. Oops did I make a mistake? 911, sorry. In any case, Porsche designed a FAR BETTER product in 1972 and sold it in 1978 as the type 928. I had one for over 19 years and worked on it myself with NO mechanical training whatsoever. This car could do anything. It handled great, looked fantastic, and while the US models were tamed by the EPA, the Rest Of World models were nearly as fast as that 911 turbo and definitely handled better than ANY 911. [This is a plug for the 928] 4. -I'm surprised David is working on this car. It has Bosch CIS injection, which is a NIGHTMARE! Hoovie's old Bentley had this and is is troublesome. It works GREAT as long as there is no sort of dirt or water that gets to the fuel distributor. Once that happens, you just need to pull out your credit card and expect a multi-thousand dollar bill from your mechanic. This system is what I call an "Engineer's system", meaning that it works on paper but in the real world it is a piece of SHIT~ 5. That interior color is called "gray beige" by Porsche, with an "a" in the "gray". Porsche back then marketed their cars to the United States and this is telling: In English language, "gray" is proper in the US and "grey" is proper in the United Kingdom. Great video!

these 930 Porsches are knows as the WIDOWMAKER so many guys in the 80s bought them after driving there 180 hp corvettes and werent used to the combination of the light weight....the rear engine....300+hp and a BIG turbo that lags until you reach 3000 rpm then BANG!!! you are rolling...alot of times when that boost came on it brought the car right into an oncoming car or into the woods... these cars are SICKK.... there is a minty black one that just moved in down the st from me...keep up the GREAT WORK.... Strange business, re: the front struts? From the vid view, obviously, torsion bar suspension? Wheel spindle, etc, cast integral, with the lower strut, Including, Steering, "King pin" axis? Strut connected at bottom, to the control arm, by swivel cup? Therefore, the strut must swivel, with steering? This would be a racing design? Not surprising, if the shocks leaked? 55k miles, not bad, that design? Theoretically, could be poss to dismantle & r/b? That's after market? Manufacturer would supply, only complete units? Want Big Boys Toys? Got da Money, Honey? We got parts & time :)

Just to clarify, the Porsche 930 is a Porsche 911, just like the Porsche 934, 964, 993, 996 and today's 997 are all Porsche 911. However in North America "someone" wrongly gave it the nickname that stick of 930, all because its internal type number add the 930 in it.
