The modern audience is comprised of hundreds of millions of "empty calorie" customers. They will definitely buy something as long as it's the next hip trend. Happens all the time and for centuries. These corporations no longer want to make products of quality and substance because you can only sell so much of it at a time, and then people sit back and digest the great product. Meaning the revenue arc drops out. Just how appliances are being designed to become obsolete within 2-3 years, instead of 20+ years like back in the day. Why do you think the RPG genre is the primary genre of games being attacked? Because RPGs are games you buy and play for hundreds of hours, and your spending stops for awhile. They want you to keep buying continuously. Hence why RPGs must go, or in the least, be changed to something that can be turned into a microtransactional system. "Modern audience" isn't really about progressivism, as much as it is about marketing to the "empty calorie" customer base, which is the vast majority of humans. 30 years ago the games library was limited. Now, there are more games than you could possibly name. More games than you could reasonably play in a lifetime. Indie games studios have proven themselves to be fantastic, especially in the last 10-15 years. There will come a point when these big games companies/studios will not be needed anymore to find good games. They want to push until we accept DEI, but what is really going to happen is they will keep pushing until they're no longer relevant and replaced by smaller, independent studios that care about the gamers. There will come a time no one will need Disney or BioWare or Rockstar or Ubisoft. Then they can truly have what they want: their own [non-existent] audience; and we will have what we want - good games again!
