This is the cleanest and most perfect of any transfer I've ever heard, yours or anybody else's. I play it all the time and know practically every breath these guys take. DD are best listened to in a slightly live room as opposed to a dead one. I've tried all different variations and was suggested by Edison's engineer Walter Miller. It doesn't get any better than this transfer, I'm envious. Thank you very much.

That other take is at the ten year mark and is perfection. After all these years I just can't believe Rollini. A God on Mt. Olympus. Lindy H. is a genius. Thank you!

Sweet! Yes, I grew up with a different take the clarinet solo being different. What's uncanny how the rest is so identical to another take. I've managed to collect all the issued takes over the years.

The rest is identical since they played Arthur Lange's stock arrangement. The intro of the stock was changed (you can hear the original intro in the Columbia 78 by Harry Reser), and so the ending. Solos are almost the ame.

This has become my favorite tune from the "Charleston" era. Somehow it superbly speaks "Roaring Twenties" More than any other tune I've heard from the era (and I've heard quite a few). Love the progression from I to VIII7. Most people are going to hear James P. Johnson's famous "Charleston" when the 'Twenties come to mind, but I think this song is a more interesting "charleston." Thanks for posting this version. Addendum: this was a great band; I have most of their stuff. Anything with Adrian Rollini on it had to be terrific. Nice solos here.

My grandfather on my mom’s side of the family is (was) Leroy (Roy) Johnston. So strange and wonderful to see that people still enjoy his work.

Leroy Johnston is your grandfather? That is incredible, truly! You must be extremely proud! May I ask if you know any stories or biographical details which have been handed down to you? I am basically obsessed with the lives of musicians of the early jazz era, and seek to learn as much as I can about the happenings of their daily lives. Anything you can tell me about Leroy, about his career and personal life, would be amazing and much appreciated. Thank you for your reply to my comment, and thank you in advance for any information you may be able to provide! Take care.

Why do parts of this sound very close to “Wonder What’s Become of Joe” ?

Rollini gets those posts because he was revered by his peers during that period and since like Bix, Louie A. etc. and still finding fans 100 later. Thank god for these fantastic acoustic records showing off just how remakable he was. Good luck trying to downplay THAT talent. 😂Most amusing...

Why? Maybe Beltone needs to do a battery replacement for you. I doubt you can put an end to it though...
