Hey, bro. A lil advice from one grower to the next…. To get more taters. Trim back the foliage before it get to that level. You only want vines/leaves to grow enough to Cover the area that your expecting to grow/produce taters. Your taters shoots put more energy into the leave & foliage than taters. You can control that by “topping” or cut off leading shoots that grow outside of your taters growing area. Also, the soil need to be really really porous or lose so that the tater shoots don’t have to work hard to break thru the soil to grow bigger. Lastly, add boat loads of compost. Taters love compost. And I would suggest making your tater rows higher or build them higher. Example. Make beds 2ft wide, 20ft long and 3-4 high. High pile are easy for taters to grow easier to harvest. Just a thought. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Yes it sure helps, commercial growers have a flail mower that straddles the rows and the prune.

Oh, I had a friend from Africa, who cooks And love to eat the leaves. Actually, they were sold at a market! When I told her what I’d seen, she got so excited and rushed immediately to the market and bought some! It’s like greens, maybe mustard greens, etc. well, they’re green! Look what is thrown away or fed to animals but it’s also highly prized as food to some folk.

Another channel said the vines make good feed for animals, like sweet potato vine hay. So, if you have someone nearby, they might appreciate the contribution to their animals, good when turn black. Also the tender top leaves are good in a salad, completely edible. Subscribed. Beautiful harvest!

I also remember watching him use many different things to stay one step ahead of anything that would be at him to his harvest or weaken it. He once used window screen under planted on top, then enveloped it in so no thing could eat upon it. Ok so he was a little ocd
