Sweet Transit just came out - is it any good? (Real Signal Engineer Plays)

Yes, it's quite fun so far. Excited to play this some more! Very Factorio-esque train system and neat city building mechanics that causes more types and volume of train traffic. Very cool! I was a full time Railroad Signals Design Engineer for Sound Transit, the commuter rail and light rail transit agency in Seattle, WA right up until now :)

I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one who thought that whistle sounded like the one from RCT2 trains. This game reminds me a lot of Rail Road Tycoon 2. I’d love to see a series of this game from you to see how a signal engineer would set up a rail network.

Great entertainment though the way you set up your two way track was... both fascinating and confusing at the same time because personally I've never seen it done like that, though it does make sense in a way. But one big tip I do have for you, regarding the coal distribution train... it doesn't need to visit every single station. All it needs is a pickup from 1 of 2 coal stations (which can be condensed into 1 if you get a distribution center in place), then dropping off at paris, and maybe the warehouse as well, not entirely sure. But you don't need to go to all your other pickup stations for one simple reason, and it's that currently all trains go to Paris which means all of them can refuel at Paris.

Could you imagine. Suddenly you give them potatoes and they are happy to have twice as many people living in the same space. 🤣 It's cool seeing you go through the learning curve on this, it keeps getting crazier. I keep scrapping mine and starting anew, trying to segregate as much as possible. Finding that balance between enough space for expansion and close to save on trip times and fuel. I found out if you have two stations parallel and you add additional platforms where they meet on opposite sides of a single track then the train can literally load and unload instantly to both without ever moving. For stone (if your village is next to a mountain) especially it's convenient for staffing the quarries and unloading the raw stone to the village to be cut. costs no fuel either 🤣 Ill have to tell the devs about that it's kind of game breaking. I was testing the limits of shortening trip distances, I didn't think the game would allow that distance to become zero. lol

I wondered if you would play this game. Gives me vibes of the sid Meyers railroad games also. Trains, build up the industries and towns... The signals confuse me, as to what the difference between chain signal and other signal is, and what they do though. Maybe a video on what the two do, for the game?

Definitely a little Sid Meier's vibe going on too. The signals we can talk about first thing next episode; but for now, a short primer is that the regular signal checks to see if the block ahead is free; if it is, it allows a train past it into the block. The chain signal looks to see if the next signal itself is free; so regardless of the status of the block right in front of it is, it looks ahead. This is very useful at switches and diamonds where you don't want the train to sit on the switch or crossover, but at a dedicated waiting point. For complex intersections, just make everything other than the exit to normal main track a chain signal. That way the chains read the next chain, and it cascades to "the entire route must be free across to allow me to go at all" so you don't get any partial stuff / lockups.

I'm afraid to buy this game because I already have 650 hours in Factorio and know I will get sucked in haha.

@@Hyce777 it's written in MonoGame which is a cross-platform engine, I shouldn't have to run it in a VM or via proton and take a big performance penalty (reason I mentioned low-requirements-this is the kind of game I'd want to play on my laptop in bed). It's especially weird since Factorio has proper Linux support despite being written from scratch with no game engine
