I love your videos! My husband has stage 4 cancer so I do everything around the house and the car maintenance. Your car and DIY videos really help me. Every time I work on our cars I am so proud! Everything from fixing the A/C to changing the brakes and rotors, I've learned everything on the Internet. I'm so glad that I found your channel. This week I am replacing coil packs, so now I know to check the spark plugs while I'm in there! My husband never changes the spark plugs in the back because it was too hard to get to them. but I'm going to use your video to do it myself! I love learning new things!

We are just sharing with those viewers out there that don't know that the best thing to do is to change their coils when they change their plugs at 50,000-60,000 miles so they don't have to get back in there in a year or two. Awesome video as always Mike! I've learned that putting an antiseize on spark plugs isn’t recommended anymore as almost all modern spark plugs ship with trivalent plating or other types of antiseize compounds already applied. If you still want to apply it safely, put a vey small amount just in the middle portion of the threads and make sure to torque it down 20% less than the called for torque specs. The reason being that antiseize acts as a lubricant and extra lubrication reduces the torque value, increasing the risk of spark plug thread breakage.

nice work, hoss. one extra step i take is to undo the old plug about half a turn to break loose any cooties in the spark plug well, then used compressed air with a long thin tube and blast out any dirt etc. stuff can fall into these wells even if they are "sealed." also, if you are using a torque wrench take into account that anti seize lubes the threads so reduce the torque by at least 1/4 so you don't strip the threads or you will assault the ears of nearby women and children! most plug torque specs are for dry threads. driving tip of the day: keep 'er between the ditches!

@NafanyaZX Жыл бұрын
Yes, the whole system requires 3 basic things: air, fuel and spark. Coils step up the voltage and pass it on to the spark plugs, which ignite the compressed air/fuel mix. Everything needs to happen at exactly the right moment. At 1k RPM a sparkplug does it's thing 8 times a second. And that's while idling. If you rev up to 4k rpm, it's 32 times a second. So you see how important it is to have a good connection and enough voltage at the right time. The tolerances are tight, so it's easy for things to go south. But it might as well be a thousand of other things. Seized up brakes, bad wheel bearing, bad air sensor, clogged fuel injectors (you want fine fuel mist, which mixes well with air and combusts nicely), bad compression, bad spark plugs (very likely, if you don't know when the last service was), low air pressure in the tyres, sludge in the engine and even just fitting larger (heavier) wheels with wider tyres. Even adding more electric accessories, like a minifridge, or a more powerful stereo results in more load on the alternator, which is powered by the engine. The easiest thing to check is the tyre pressure, so start there. Correct values can be found either in the door sil, or the fuel door. They correspond to different tyre sizes accordingly. If it's not that, buy an obd2 reader and check for present error codes. Your car can tell you what's wrong with it.

I miss the days of the "local" auto parts chain before O'Reilly's and AutoZone gobbled them all up. Way back when (we're talking 25-ish years ago), I was shopping for spark plugs at one of these old-school stores (it was called Big Wheel Rossi) and the older gentleman behind the counter offered up some sage wisdom to me: Invest in a magnetic spark plug socket. I took him up on his advice on the spot and still have that socket to this day!! Nowadays we just get young kids making minimum wage working the chain stores, and all they're qualified to do is make a couple of clicks on a mouse and do what the computer tells them to do.

What about injectors? I know it's almost always a more involved process to replace them, but what's a general rule-of-thumb for when it's time to replace them?
@SweetProjectCars Жыл бұрын
If you feel the car still running rough after a standard tune up, then it's time to replace the injectors. They say injectors should be replaced at 50,000 miles, but if you use this amzn.to/3pRLccN on a regular basis, you can keep your injectors well lubed and spotless clean, and we've had them go over 100,000 miles with this product. I've never removed the wires connected to them,had a 20yr old Yaris & it could well be britel, so not worth the risk for me. For those in the UK i always use WD-40 inside the coils. Always use anti-size on the threads,i use copper grease as i always have it around,never had any issues. I would suck out the old power steering fluid too, use a turkey baster. The pump will go out in time if you don't,some aint cheaper either, don't forget tax is added on the total just because you didn't do it. ❤ Look after the oils & it'll look after you....your vehicle that is 😃

Hello Mike, thanks for the comment/question. I would use this amzn.to/3wIDQHd to clean it with, make sure it's completely grease free. Then I would use this amzn.to/3QcXlUk Before applying, rough up the area with heavy sandpaper so that it will have a really good bond.
