Yes, thanks for the rant on vegan purity. I live in Kansas....like it’s not the vegan hot spot of the world. I have VERY few plant based options out. So I enjoy the rant and these videos.

People like that are the Karen's of Veganism. I'm not 100% vegan. I consider myself plant based (80%) working towards being 100% plant based. I grew up in super meat eating family in the Midwest. We bought a grass fed cow every year. It was not hard to give up beef and pork. Chicken is on it way out. Fish and Eggs are my weakness. I love tofu because it doesn't taste like meat. Fast food grosses me out.

Hopefully those negative comments were trolls, because that is all nonsense. I always eat at restaurants that have both vegan and non-vegan food options. One of the reasons I stopped following most of the vegans on youtube and instagram is because of that nonsense (and that most of them don't eat properly, then wind up back on animal flesh anyways). I subscribed to you guys, because I like that you show non-vegans (and vegans) all these wonderful options that they wouldn't have known about otherwise.
@madelonnorth43953 жыл бұрын
It's really nice to hear you guys talk about gatekeeping in veganism! I'm a PhD student and my thesis is on meat consumption, and my first study we just published was the preferred definition of veganism, and what we found is that the people who were most likely to say that to be vegan you must be perfect in every part of it were actually vegan themselves. We're doing the lifestyle a disservice by holding people to such perfect standards, and I'm really glad you're calling them out on it!!
@davidthescottishvegan3 жыл бұрын
100% agree and I am not a perfect vegan because there's foods I have bought then discovered when I got home and they have contained an animal based ingredient but because I don't believe in food waste I usually have eaten it. Thankfully it doesn't happen too often because it hasn't happened since the beginning of the pandemic and mainly it was in my early vegan transition days.
@ethicallybasedexnazi3 жыл бұрын
Exactly. A vegan lifestyle isn't about being "perfect". Nobody's perfect so to expect that from even vegans is impossible; especially considering the fact that we're forced to live in a very speciesist society and world. I ran across a post in a vegan group on Facebook from one of those purist individuals and it was so condescending I had to point out that by their standards I couldn't even call myself vegan even though I do everything to my abilities to avoid contributing to animal exploitation but I live in a small town in Western Oklahoma where every restaurant is fast food and FAR from vegan or even plant based. It's an oilfield town where hunting is a big hobby and we don't even have a single farmer's market. The closest one is the next town over but without a car there's literally no way I can go so I'm left with Walmart to do my shopping so my options are extremely limited but I make it work. But even if I were to only ever eat at a vegan restaurant, only consume food from a garden, never were to harm an insect by accident, grew up in a vegan family from birth and were somehow able to totally, hypothetically, never harm a non human animal, etcetera I'd still have to earn money and taxes go to subsidies for animal agriculture and by purists' standards nobody would be vegan. They're ridiculous.

I’m near Myrtle Beach, SC and there aren’t a whole heap of options. I used to live in VA and got spoiled. I’ve done plant-based a couple of times and have always failed, even with the numerous options I had surrounding me. I’m doing it again and going into it with this more laid-back mindset. I wish I had found their page when I first went plant-based back in 2017. Being where I am now with limited options and working with what’s available, I definitely see how much of an advantage I had when I was in VA. Gatekeeping is the worst thing to help promote veganism. Nobody wants to be attacked for not getting it 100% perfect.

There are no vegan options at Panda Express in Appalachia. The workers there were very clear when we asked that there would NEVER be a vegan option in that region. Living there as a vegan was HARD, and I’m so grateful we could move back to the west coast. I lost track of the number of times the “vegetarian option” at work was chicken or fish. 🤦🏻♀️

You’re guys’ speech about being vegan was so great!!! Like I realted and agreed so hard. It’s also important to know people intentions! A lot of my intention is environment and trying to be low impact, so let’s say I accidentally bought something that wasn’t vegan, I would try to give it to someone else who would want it. But if no one is around to eat it besides me. I would rather eat it then let it go to waste. I know that’s my personal thing, and I don’t judge others who don’t agree or do that. But it’s so hard to be in the vegan community because I always hesitate to tell people that because people are always judging my vegan “standards,” so I appreciated hearing that from people I look up to 💛😊✨

Thank you for keeping us informed about new options. Sometimes it can be difficult, but usually there is something available in a pinch. I'm excited about Quiznos! Oh, and Jasmine, I don't like raw onions either, or anything hot and spicy. 😂

I love your realistic stance on eating vegan. People like you will contribute more to the movement because imagine - if you get people who are not going vegan to eat vegan at least once a week?!? The impact is more exponential. Until it becomes the norm. It's the reason why I always watch your videos.
