SWFL Eagle Cam 6-1-23. Keeping Eagles Safe; E22 Visits Nest Tree; E22 Soars! Ground + Cam Coverage.

Video opens with Haughland Energy working on the poles/guards in the Pritchett driveway. They worked on the three power poles in the driveway, replacing at least two of them, and affixing new guards/insulators to the poles. The insulators protect the eagles/raptors from electrocution. Bald eagle nesting season is now over (5-15), allowing repair and/or replacement work to be done. Thank you Haugland Energy and the Pritchett family! E22 arrives at the nest tree, moves to a front pine after a bit, then to a tree at the N end of the nest tree pasture. E22 returns to the nest tree, then flies S across the road, circling a few times, then landing in a pine to the S. E22 leaves a short time later to soar. Time stamps below, if interested. Serap Mehmet. The guards have been in place around the nest tree area as long as I can remember. I remember seeing it years ago in Wskrsnwings videos. Hurricane Ian damaged a few, and now that nesting season is over, they finally could fix those. 💜

June Everson. The poles here have had insulators for many years. Hurricane Ian damaged a few of them, and crews had to wait until the end of nesting season to repair them. All of those big trucks so close to the nest is too disturbing during the sensitive nesting time, even for urban eagles.

Big Thanks to Haugland Electric. This procedure could have saved Junior from electrocution when he fledged after Malala (little red tailed hawk) had fledged. This was at the GROWLS nest on Gabriola Island. Thanks Androcat for the info and the video!🌻😊

Patty P. Yes, line workers sure do. When Hurricane Irma hit in 2017, a crew from Arkansas got our neighborhood power back up. I remember seeing Haugland crews back in 2017 also. And last year with Hurricane Ian, a Michigan crew got our power back on. It’s heartwarming how many came to help us, and we sure needed help! Your “hometown” crew actually has a a division that works in Florida, and subcontract here for LCEC. 💜

Janice Place. No, M15 has not left. He was at Yonder Pond yesterday, according to a local photographer. I have not looked at the video yet, but I will as soon as I get home. It’s hard to see on my phone lol. E22 is an independent juvie, same as others at 149 days old. E22 is likely getting some deliveries still from Dad, out of cam view. M15 has always provided for his E’s until they disperse.

@MichelleGalton. E22 has dispersed from the natal area. They wander for the first five years, with most Florida Eagles migrating up the Atlantic Flyway, returning each fall. Hopefully the E’s both return to the SW Florida region to start their families when they are five! 🤞💜🦅🦅💜😊

Janet Geller. The local power company there can do this type of work. I thought after that tragic incident occurred, the local power company was going to address the power lines that needed insulators there. Haughland Energy is based out of Melville, NY, and has a division based here in Florida.

Last year when Hurricane Ian hit I remembered what a mess LCEC made in 2017 of the Hurricane Irma repairs and thought we'd be lucky to get power back in 2 or 3 months. Fortunately, after Ian last year, the Jacksonville electric utility company sent teams to take over and we were up and running within about 10 days after the temporary road was installed.

ej ej. YW 🙂. After Irma, I remember seeing Haugland working here. I think at that time they were part of the disaster relief teams that came in. A lineman at MasTac (another LCEC contractor) knew I recorded this, and told me Haugland actually is full time here now, with offices. After Irma, our power was ten days to restore also. And I also figured we would be out much longer, as there was so much devastation. I was impressed when I got back in under two weeks!

Erin Braun. The Pritchett’s could have legally taken the cams down before E22 dispersed. “Nesting season” ended quite some time ago at this nest. They are very kind to leave them up through the end of June. 💜
