SWFL Eagles ~ M15 Brings A Bromeliad To Nest! F23 Tries To Help 😂 Bickering While Shredding 10.26.23

It was another busy day for M15 & F23 working on their nest in the morning, the afternoon & the evening! In this video, M15 is lying in the nest and he gets up and flies to the attic. They exchange vocals and look beautiful as a couple in the morning light. M15 begins with mating calls and then mating. (The cam is freezing every few seconds again today) Afterwards, M15 will fly off the attic towards the pond. The cam op zooms in on F23 with some beautiful closeups of her ♥
Later, she is on the spike and watches as M15 flies in to the nest with an airplant (bromeliad). This was one of Harriet's favorite plants to add to the nest ♥ He works hard on placing it and stands on it and holds it down with his talons while he starts to shred it. For several minutes, F23 just watched him while she perched on the spike. Then she dropped to the nest to help. She grabs the airplant and M15 is holding on to it - they end up shredding it together. Then the beak discussion begin! M15 nips at F23's head and she responds with a nip back. Interesting to watch their dynamics as a new couple! When they are finished with the airplant, they head to the attic and look out over the pasture and their territory. Thank you for watching!

The plant is actually a Tillandsia, part of the Bromeliad family. Tillandsias are more commonly known as "air plants", and come in lots of sizes, and even different colors. These videos are amazing, and the couple is incredible. Thanks for all the postings and commentary.

I think the mighty15's lady likes the bromeliad nest gift. I think it would be interesting to see some flowers with nice colors and scents that the owls don't like too much but safe for eagles. It's interesting to see the variety of materials put into their nests.

Yes interesting comment as the owls were back tonight (Oct 26th at 8pm) One went into the nest and was not sure what the airplant was and how it got there! They did not stay long...maybe didn't like it?

Thank you for the wonderful comment! They are a strong couple and we have not seen any intruders at all this Fall - perhaps a testament to their strength to detour away those stray eagles! F23 is getting a bit testy - maybe hormones are raging now! Hi bootsie the bromeliads or airplants are pretty cool plants! They are normally epiphytic (a plant that grows on another plant, such as a tree). Airplants are non parasitic and don't harm their host plant. Usually you will see them on the sides of trees however; it is not uncommon to see them grow on telephone wires, buildings, or even on the ground. Airplants don't require any soil to grow; they get enough moisture and nutrients from the air and rain to support themselves. The airplants are very common and grow on the trees in the pasture. M15 likes to pluck them off and bring to the nest as a gift ♥

Every time a young Eagle flies around the pasture, I always hope it is one of the Eaglets returning to its birthplace!! But without an identification plate we will never know, not even if they are still alive... The sad thing is that when Harriet never returned, we will never know what happened to her. Without a sign of recognition if someone had found her she wouldn't have know who to tell!! ❤ The Young Eagle who stopped on the nest tree, l'm more than sure that it is one of Harriet's children, more precisely very nice E22!! ❤❤

After watching how "mouthy" and feisty some of the other Female Eagles are,I used to say M15 was so lucky to have Harriet because she wasn't like that. She was laid back and they communicated and worked great together. She taught him her way. Now he's trying to teach F23 and she's like I know it already

Hi Lisa no we don't know which trees that they roost in for the night - they flew across the road and way past the church and maybe as far as the power poles as seen when cam 1 zooms in on them. The locals have never seen them roosting within view. We believe that F23 is five years old based on some dark feathers seen still in her head. This will be her first breeding season! ♥

At least M15 doesn't have to worry about F23 footing him (for now, anyway), but that doesn't mean he can still show her some nestkeeping techniques taught by Harriet. Also seems eager to see her lay eggs that can eventually lead to E23 & E24.
