This is incredibly useful. I have heard so many people talk about breathing in the bow wave but I have never been able to do it. Now I understand that my speed (or lack there of) is such that I will not be creating a bow wave. I’m going to work on rotating more to lower my head in the water the next time I swim. Thank you!

great videos, as a severely cardio-limited heart patient (25% ejection fraction from t left ventricle) swimming efficiently is my ONLY hope of carrying on my love affair with with this sport I self-taught in 2011 as part of rehab following being T-boned on my bike. continual awareness of what’s going in t water is essential (once you get comfortable breath-wise), almost meditation.

Finally, the bow wave, or in my case, the lack of one explained! I can't get past 3:00 per 100.

I think her over rotation was due a lot to generally poor mechanics. Head too high, gut relaxed too much, poor arm pull and catch. Good posture would help her kick as well. Right arm didn't get vertical forearm. Interesting that the male swimmer you showed was swimming gallop style, actually porpoising a little bit. Pretty much all men swim like that, but fewer women. Katie Ledecky does, but Ariarne Titmus breaths on a more standard 2, 2, 4 stroke pattern.
